Znanstvenici sa teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M otkrili su novu varijantu koronavirusa, koju su nazvali BV-1. Prema prvim analizama zaraznija je od originalne varijante iz Wuhana te se uspješno odupire antitijelima i bori protiv imunološkog sustava.

Kako su znanstvenici pojasnili za CNBC, ova varijanta u sebi ima kombinaciju mutacija koje su slične već ranije otkrivenima kod brazilskog i južnoafričkog soja. 

„BV-1 kombinira genetske markere koji su povezani uz brzo širenje, ozbiljnom bolešću i velikom otpornošću na neutralizirajuća antitijela – komentirao je glavni virolog Texas A&M-a Ben Neuman za CNBC.

Nova varijanta, BV-1, nazvana po porijeklu iz doline Brazos, pronađena je tijekom rutinske serološke analize u Texasu kod mladog studenta koji je imao blage simptome slične prehladi. Student je 5. ožujka bio pozitivan na Covid, te 25. ožujka ponovno pozitivan, pokazujući da novi soj može uzrokovati dulju infekciju kod mlađih ljudi.

Simptomi studenta su nestali 2. travnja, a treći test 9. travnja bio je negativan.

O novom soju znanstvenici su obavijestili američki Centar za kontrolu bolesti (CDC) kako bi epidemiolozi mogli pratiti pojavu novih slučajeva uzrokovanih ovom varijantom.

Znanstvenici iz Teksasa ističu kako je BV-1 genetski slična puno poznatijoj britanskoj varijanti (B.1.1.7) koja se pokazala zaraznijom od originalne, ali ne i ista. S druge strane, nadaju se da će upravo te sličnosti biti ključne kad je u pitanju učinkovitost cjepiva. Mnogi američki laboratoriji slijede samo teške slučajeve Covid-a, ali laboratorij A&M u Teksasu testira i sekvencira i  asimptomatske studente kako bi detektirali nove opasnije vrste prije nego se počne nekontrolirano širiti.  

“Sekvenciranje pomaže u pružanju sustava ranog upozoravanja za nove inačice”, rekao je Neuman.

Znanstvenici u laboratoriju kažu da još uvijek ne razumiju puni značaj BV-1, ali vjeruju da varijanta “ističe važnu potrebu za rigoroznim nadzorom i genomskim ispitivanjima”, posebno među mladim odraslima koji su asimptomatski ili pokazuju blage simptome.

Znanstvenici sa teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M otkrili su novu varijantu koronavirusa, koju su nazvali BV-1. Prema prvim analizama zaraznija je od originalne varijante iz Wuhana te se uspješno odupire antitijelima i bori protiv imunološkog sustava.

Kako su znanstvenici pojasnili za CNBC, ova varijanta u sebi ima kombinaciju mutacija koje su slične već ranije otkrivenima kod brazilskog i južnoafričkog soja. 

„BV-1 kombinira genetske markere koji su povezani uz brzo širenje, ozbiljnom bolešću i velikom otpornošću na neutralizirajuća antitijela – komentirao je glavni virolog Texas A&M-a Ben Neuman za CNBC.

Nova varijanta, BV-1, nazvana po porijeklu iz doline Brazos, pronađena je tijekom rutinske serološke analize u Texasu kod mladog studenta koji je imao blage simptome slične prehladi. Student je 5. ožujka bio pozitivan na Covid, te 25. ožujka ponovno pozitivan, pokazujući da novi soj može uzrokovati dulju infekciju kod mlađih ljudi.

Simptomi studenta su nestali 2. travnja, a treći test 9. travnja bio je negativan.

O novom soju znanstvenici su obavijestili američki Centar za kontrolu bolesti (CDC) kako bi epidemiolozi mogli pratiti pojavu novih slučajeva uzrokovanih ovom varijantom.

Znanstvenici iz Teksasa ističu kako je BV-1 genetski slična puno poznatijoj britanskoj varijanti (B.1.1.7) koja se pokazala zaraznijom od originalne, ali ne i ista. S druge strane, nadaju se da će upravo te sličnosti biti ključne kad je u pitanju učinkovitost cjepiva. Mnogi američki laboratoriji slijede samo teške slučajeve Covid-a, ali laboratorij A&M u Teksasu testira i sekvencira i  asimptomatske studente kako bi detektirali nove opasnije vrste prije nego se počne nekontrolirano širiti.  

“Sekvenciranje pomaže u pružanju sustava ranog upozoravanja za nove inačice”, rekao je Neuman.

Znanstvenici u laboratoriju kažu da još uvijek ne razumiju puni značaj BV-1, ali vjeruju da varijanta “ističe važnu potrebu za rigoroznim nadzorom i genomskim ispitivanjima”, posebno među mladim odraslima koji su asimptomatski ili pokazuju blage simptome.

Znanstvenici sa teksaškog Sveučilišta A&M otkrili su novu varijantu koronavirusa, koju su nazvali BV-1. Prema prvim analizama zaraznija je od originalne varijante iz Wuhana te se uspješno odupire antitijelima i bori protiv imunološkog sustava.

Kako su znanstvenici pojasnili za CNBC, ova varijanta u sebi ima kombinaciju mutacija koje su slične već ranije otkrivenima kod brazilskog i južnoafričkog soja. 

„BV-1 kombinira genetske markere koji su povezani uz brzo širenje, ozbiljnom bolešću i velikom otpornošću na neutralizirajuća antitijela – komentirao je glavni virolog Texas A&M-a Ben Neuman za CNBC.
