Gotovo 30 posto uzoraka genoma virusa uzročnika covida-19 koje je prikupila Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) imalo je znakove mutacije no nema dokaza da je to dovelo do težeg oblika bolesti, rekla je u petak dužnosnica te organizacije.
"Mislim da je to dosta rašireno", rekla je Soumya Swaminathan, glavna znanstvenica WHO-a, agenciji Reuters na marginama konferencije Udruge novinara u UN-u (ACANU) u Ženevi.
WHO je do sada prikupio 60.000 uzoraka virusa, rekla je.
Znanstvenici u istraživačkom centru Scripps ovoga su mjeseca otkrili da se do travnja u 65 posto slučajeva bolesti u svijetu radilo o mutiranom virusu.
Genetska mutacija novog koronavirusa, označena D614G, značajno povećava njegovu sposobnost da zarazi stanice te bi mogla objasniti zašto se bolest na sjeveru Italije i New Yorku širila brže nego ranije tijekom pandemije, ocijenili su u studiji.
Maria Van Kerkhove, epidemiologinja WHO-a, rekla je na brifingu u petak da je mutirani soj virusa identificiran još u veljači i da je kružio u Europi i Americi.
"Za sada nema dokaza da to vodi težem obliku bolesti", rekla je.
Čelnik WHO-a Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus je rekao da bi ta organizacija uskoro trebala dobiti rezultate kliničkih ispitivanja lijekova koji bi molgi biti učinkoviti u liječenju covida-19.
"Gotovo 5500 pacijeneta u 39 zemlja za sada je uključeno u ispitivanja", rekao je na konferenciji referirajući se na klinička ispitivanja koja vodi ta UN-ova agencija.
Rekao je da WHO u iduća dva tjedna očekuje rezultate do sada provedenih ispitivanja.
Mike Ryan, voditelj WHO-ovog programa, ocijenio je da ne bi bilo mudro predviđati kada bi moglo biti spremno cjepivo za covid-19 koji je u svijetu ubio više od pola milijuna ljudi.
Iako bi se cjepiva u razvoju mogla pokazati učinkovitim do kraja godine pitanje je koliko brzo bi se mogla početi masovno proizvoditi, rekao je novinarima ACANU-a u Ženevi.
Za sada nema dokazanog cjepiva protiv bolesti no trenutno se na ljudima ispituje 18 potencijalnih kandidata.
Dužnosnici WHO-a su branili svoj odgovor na virus koji se prošle godine pojavio u Kini rekavši da su ga, kako se pandemija razvijala, temeljili na znanosti. Ryan je, međutim, rekao da žali što su se globalni lanci opskrbe raskinuli i ostavili medicinsko osoblje bez zaštitne opreme.
"Žalim što nije bilo poštenog, dostupnog pristupa alatima za borbu s covidom. Žalim što su neke zemlje imale više od drugih i žalim što su zbog toga umrli radnici na prvoj crti", rekao je.
On je pozvao zemlje da identificiraju nove izvore zaraze, nalaze i izoliraju zaražene kako bi prekinuli lanac transmisije covida-19.
Oni koji samo nagađaju i pričaju o transmisiji ništa ne postižu, rekao je Ryan i zaključio da rezultate postižu samo oni koji se aktivno bore s novim koronavirusom.

Gotovo 30 posto uzoraka genoma virusa uzročnika covida-19 koje je prikupila Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) imalo je znakove mutacije no nema dokaza da je to dovelo do težeg oblika bolesti, rekla je u petak dužnosnica te organizacije.
"Mislim da je to dosta rašireno", rekla je Soumya Swaminathan, glavna znanstvenica WHO-a, agenciji Reuters na marginama konferencije Udruge novinara u UN-u (ACANU) u Ženevi.
WHO je do sada prikupio 60.000 uzoraka virusa, rekla je.
Znanstvenici u istraživačkom centru Scripps ovoga su mjeseca otkrili da se do travnja u 65 posto slučajeva bolesti u svijetu radilo o mutiranom virusu.
Genetska mutacija novog koronavirusa, označena D614G, značajno povećava njegovu sposobnost da zarazi stanice te bi mogla objasniti zašto se bolest na sjeveru Italije i New Yorku širila brže nego ranije tijekom pandemije, ocijenili su u studiji.
Maria Van Kerkhove, epidemiologinja WHO-a, rekla je na brifingu u petak da je mutirani soj virusa identificiran još u veljači i da je kružio u Europi i Americi.
"Za sada nema dokaza da to vodi težem obliku bolesti", rekla je.
Čelnik WHO-a Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus je rekao da bi ta organizacija uskoro trebala dobiti rezultate kliničkih ispitivanja lijekova koji bi molgi biti učinkoviti u liječenju covida-19.
"Gotovo 5500 pacijeneta u 39 zemlja za sada je uključeno u ispitivanja", rekao je na konferenciji referirajući se na klinička ispitivanja koja vodi ta UN-ova agencija.
Rekao je da WHO u iduća dva tjedna očekuje rezultate do sada provedenih ispitivanja.
Mike Ryan, voditelj WHO-ovog programa, ocijenio je da ne bi bilo mudro predviđati kada bi moglo biti spremno cjepivo za covid-19 koji je u svijetu ubio više od pola milijuna ljudi.
Iako bi se cjepiva u razvoju mogla pokazati učinkovitim do kraja godine pitanje je koliko brzo bi se mogla početi masovno proizvoditi, rekao je novinarima ACANU-a u Ženevi.
Za sada nema dokazanog cjepiva protiv bolesti no trenutno se na ljudima ispituje 18 potencijalnih kandidata.
Dužnosnici WHO-a su branili svoj odgovor na virus koji se prošle godine pojavio u Kini rekavši da su ga, kako se pandemija razvijala, temeljili na znanosti. Ryan je, međutim, rekao da žali što su se globalni lanci opskrbe raskinuli i ostavili medicinsko osoblje bez zaštitne opreme.
"Žalim što nije bilo poštenog, dostupnog pristupa alatima za borbu s covidom. Žalim što su neke zemlje imale više od drugih i žalim što su zbog toga umrli radnici na prvoj crti", rekao je.
On je pozvao zemlje da identificiraju nove izvore zaraze, nalaze i izoliraju zaražene kako bi prekinuli lanac transmisije covida-19.
Oni koji samo nagađaju i pričaju o transmisiji ništa ne postižu, rekao je Ryan i zaključio da rezultate postižu samo oni koji se aktivno bore s novim koronavirusom.
