Među pacijentima na odjelima intenzivnog liječenja u bolnicama za liječenje koronavirusa prevladavaju pretili muškarci.

Stručnjaci još nisu sigurni zašto.  

Ono što se kao uzorak počelo pojavljivati u Kini, dobilo je potvrdu u bolnicama u Europi i u Sjedinjenim Državama.

"Više muškaraca nego žena ima ozbiljne probleme s koronavirusom i među njima je više pretilih nego mršavih", kazao je Derek Hill, profesor medicinske radiologije na Kraljevskom koledžu u Londonu. 

Dosadašnje statistike iz britanskih odjela intenzivnog liječenja potvrđuju taj fenomen: 73 pacijenata su muškarci, a 73,4 posto ih ima prekomjernu tjelesnu težinu. 

Usto, kod pretilih je muškaraca uočena manja vjerojatnost ozdravljenja kad zapadnu u kritično stanje. 

Oko 42,4 posto pacijenata s indeksom tjelesne težine (BMI) nižim od 30 ozdravilo je i pušteno je kući, u uspordebi s 56,4 posto onih s indeksom manjim od 25. 

I na odjelima intenzivne njege u francuskim bolnicama "vrlo je velik udjel pacijenata s prekomjernom tjelesnom težinom", rekao je intenzivist Matthieu Schmidt iz pariške bolnice  Pitie-Salpetriere. "Tri četvrtine su muškarci".

Slično je u New Yorku. 

"Procijenila bih da muškarci čine 80 posto pacijenata koje dovoze na intenzivnu", rekla je liječnica  Hani Sbitany koja liječi oboljele od covida-19 u bruklinskoj bolnici. 

Zašto muškarce covid pogađa u tolikoj mjeri? Stručnjaci kažu da je prerano za zaključak. 

"Zasad je to samo zapažanje", rekao je Jean-Francois Delfraissy koji vodi znanstveno savjetodavno tijelo francuske vlade o koronavirusu. 

"Još nemamo objašnjenje. Ja sam vrlo ponizan prema tom virusu. Nismo čuli za njega do prije tri i pol mjeseca i suočeni smo s puno nepoznanica", kazao je. 

Biologija i ponašanje 

Neki stručnjaci misle da nije muška ranjivost ono što čini razliku, nego ženska imunološka snaga.

"Urođeni imunitet u žena je bolji, naročito prije menopauze", rekao je Pierre Delobel, šef odjela za zarazne bolesti u sveučilišnoj bolnici u Toulouseu. 

James Gill, profesor na medicinskom fakultetu Warwick, kaže da je zasad jedna teza ona po kojoj žene imaju agresivniji imunološki sustav, odnosno veću otpornost na infekcije. 

"Druga je da se muškarci jednostavno ne brinu toliko za svoj organizam, među njima je više pretilostih, konzumenata alkohola i pušača", rekao je i dodao da bi odgovor mogao biti u kombinaciji biologije i ponašanja. 

To izaziva posebnu zabrinutost u Americi gdje je 42 posto odraslih pretilo, po podacima Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti koji je upozorio da je među osobama s BMI-jem većim od 40 uočen veći rizik za teži oblik covida-19. 

"Zabrinuti smo za naše američke prijatelje. Oni će zbog pretilosti vjerojatno imati više problema", rekao je Delfraissy.

Među pacijentima na odjelima intenzivnog liječenja u bolnicama za liječenje koronavirusa prevladavaju pretili muškarci.

Stručnjaci još nisu sigurni zašto.  

Ono što se kao uzorak počelo pojavljivati u Kini, dobilo je potvrdu u bolnicama u Europi i u Sjedinjenim Državama.

"Više muškaraca nego žena ima ozbiljne probleme s koronavirusom i među njima je više pretilih nego mršavih", kazao je Derek Hill, profesor medicinske radiologije na Kraljevskom koledžu u Londonu. 

Dosadašnje statistike iz britanskih odjela intenzivnog liječenja potvrđuju taj fenomen: 73 pacijenata su muškarci, a 73,4 posto ih ima prekomjernu tjelesnu težinu. 

Usto, kod pretilih je muškaraca uočena manja vjerojatnost ozdravljenja kad zapadnu u kritično stanje. 

Oko 42,4 posto pacijenata s indeksom tjelesne težine (BMI) nižim od 30 ozdravilo je i pušteno je kući, u uspordebi s 56,4 posto onih s indeksom manjim od 25. 

I na odjelima intenzivne njege u francuskim bolnicama "vrlo je velik udjel pacijenata s prekomjernom tjelesnom težinom", rekao je intenzivist Matthieu Schmidt iz pariške bolnice  Pitie-Salpetriere. "Tri četvrtine su muškarci".

Slično je u New Yorku. 

"Procijenila bih da muškarci čine 80 posto pacijenata koje dovoze na intenzivnu", rekla je liječnica  Hani Sbitany koja liječi oboljele od covida-19 u bruklinskoj bolnici. 

Zašto muškarce covid pogađa u tolikoj mjeri? Stručnjaci kažu da je prerano za zaključak. 

"Zasad je to samo zapažanje", rekao je Jean-Francois Delfraissy koji vodi znanstveno savjetodavno tijelo francuske vlade o koronavirusu. 

"Još nemamo objašnjenje. Ja sam vrlo ponizan prema tom virusu. Nismo čuli za njega do prije tri i pol mjeseca i suočeni smo s puno nepoznanica", kazao je. 

Biologija i ponašanje 

Neki stručnjaci misle da nije muška ranjivost ono što čini razliku, nego ženska imunološka snaga.

"Urođeni imunitet u žena je bolji, naročito prije menopauze", rekao je Pierre Delobel, šef odjela za zarazne bolesti u sveučilišnoj bolnici u Toulouseu. 

James Gill, profesor na medicinskom fakultetu Warwick, kaže da je zasad jedna teza ona po kojoj žene imaju agresivniji imunološki sustav, odnosno veću otpornost na infekcije. 

"Druga je da se muškarci jednostavno ne brinu toliko za svoj organizam, među njima je više pretilostih, konzumenata alkohola i pušača", rekao je i dodao da bi odgovor mogao biti u kombinaciji biologije i ponašanja. 

To izaziva posebnu zabrinutost u Americi gdje je 42 posto odraslih pretilo, po podacima Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti koji je upozorio da je među osobama s BMI-jem većim od 40 uočen veći rizik za teži oblik covida-19. 

"Zabrinuti smo za naše američke prijatelje. Oni će zbog pretilosti vjerojatno imati više problema", rekao je Delfraissy.

Koronavirus snažnije pogađa pretile muškarce, a nitko zapravo nije siguran zašto

Među pacijentima na odjelima intenzivnog liječenja u bolnicama za liječenje koronavirusa prevladavaju pretili muškarci.

Stručnjaci još nisu sigurni zašto.  

Ono što se kao uzorak počelo pojavljivati u Kini, dobilo je potvrdu u bolnicama u Europi i u Sjedinjenim Državama.

"Više muškaraca nego žena ima ozbiljne probleme s koronavirusom i među njima je više pretilih nego mršavih", kazao je Derek Hill, profesor medicinske radiologije na Kraljevskom koledžu u Londonu. 

Dosadašnje statistike iz britanskih odjela intenzivnog liječenja potvrđuju taj fenomen: 73 pacijenata su muškarci, a 73,4 posto ih ima prekomjernu tjelesnu težinu. 

Usto, kod pretilih je muškaraca uočena manja vjerojatnost ozdravljenja kad zapadnu u kritično stanje.
