Delta soj koronavirusa, prvi put otkriven u Indiji, postaje globalno dominantna varijanta covida-19, objavila je u petak Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) te izrazila veliku zabrinutost za Afriku gdje je pristup cjepivu minimalan.
Znanstvenica Soumya Swaminathan također je razočarana neuspjehom cjepivom CureVac u ispunjavanju standarda učinkovitosti WHO-a, osobito jer su potrebna nova djelotvorna cjepiva zbog visoko prenosivih sojeva.
Britanija je zabilježila porast broja zaraženih s delta varijantom, a njemački javni zdravstveni službenici predviđaju da će i u njihovoj zemlji uskoro postati dominantna unatoč porastu broja cijepljenih.
Kremlj je u petak nagli porast novozaraženih pripisao oklijevanju ljudi da se cijepe i "nihilizmu" nakon rekordnih novih slučajeva zaraze covidom-19 u Moskvi, zbog čega se strahuje od trećeg vala zaraze.
“Delta varijanta virusa je na putu da postane globalno dominantna zbog povećane prenosivosti”, izjavila je Swaminathan na konferenciji za medije.
Kompanija CureVac priopćila je ranije ovog tjedna da učinkovitost njihova cjepiva protiv koronavirusa iznosi 47 posto, čime nije prijeđen prag od 50 posto koliko WHO najmanje zahtijeva za odobrenje cjepiva.
Iz CureVaca su priopćili da su u svojem istraživanju otkrili najmanje 13 sojeva virusa.
S obzirom na to da su slična mRNA cjepiva Pfizer/BioNTech i Moderna pokazala učinkovitost veću od 90 posto, Swaminathan je rekla da je svijet očekivao više od CureVaca.
"Samo zato što je to još jedno mRNA cjepivo, ne možemo pretpostaviti da su sva mRNA cjepiva jednaka jer svako se temelji na malo drugačijoj tehnologiji", objasnila je Swaminathan.
Zabrinutost za Afriku
Iz WHO-a su izrazili veliku zabrinutost za Afirku iako na nju otpada samo pet posto novih svjetskih zaraza i dva posto smrtnih slučajeva.
Broj novozaraženih u Namibiji, Sijera Leoneu, Liberiji i Ruandi udvostručio se u zadnjih tjedan dana, rekao je Mike Ryan, WHO-ov glavni stručnjak za hitne situacije, a pristup cjepivima je i dalje minimalan.
"Ovaj smjer je dosta zabrinjavajući", kazao je Ryan. "Brutalna stvarnost je da smo u vremenu kada se pojavljuje više varijanti s povećanom prenosivošću, ostavili ogroman dio stanovništva, ranjivo stanovništvo Afrike, bez cjepiva."

Delta soj koronavirusa, prvi put otkriven u Indiji, postaje globalno dominantna varijanta covida-19, objavila je u petak Svjetska zdravstvena organizacija (WHO) te izrazila veliku zabrinutost za Afriku gdje je pristup cjepivu minimalan.
Znanstvenica Soumya Swaminathan također je razočarana neuspjehom cjepivom CureVac u ispunjavanju standarda učinkovitosti WHO-a, osobito jer su potrebna nova djelotvorna cjepiva zbog visoko prenosivih sojeva.
Britanija je zabilježila porast broja zaraženih s delta varijantom, a njemački javni zdravstveni službenici predviđaju da će i u njihovoj zemlji uskoro postati dominantna unatoč porastu broja cijepljenih.
Kremlj je u petak nagli porast novozaraženih pripisao oklijevanju ljudi da se cijepe i "nihilizmu" nakon rekordnih novih slučajeva zaraze covidom-19 u Moskvi, zbog čega se strahuje od trećeg vala zaraze.
“Delta varijanta virusa je na putu da postane globalno dominantna zbog povećane prenosivosti”, izjavila je Swaminathan na konferenciji za medije.
Kompanija CureVac priopćila je ranije ovog tjedna da učinkovitost njihova cjepiva protiv koronavirusa iznosi 47 posto, čime nije prijeđen prag od 50 posto koliko WHO najmanje zahtijeva za odobrenje cjepiva.
Iz CureVaca su priopćili da su u svojem istraživanju otkrili najmanje 13 sojeva virusa.
S obzirom na to da su slična mRNA cjepiva Pfizer/BioNTech i Moderna pokazala učinkovitost veću od 90 posto, Swaminathan je rekla da je svijet očekivao više od CureVaca.
"Samo zato što je to još jedno mRNA cjepivo, ne možemo pretpostaviti da su sva mRNA cjepiva jednaka jer svako se temelji na malo drugačijoj tehnologiji", objasnila je Swaminathan.
Zabrinutost za Afriku
Iz WHO-a su izrazili veliku zabrinutost za Afirku iako na nju otpada samo pet posto novih svjetskih zaraza i dva posto smrtnih slučajeva.
Broj novozaraženih u Namibiji, Sijera Leoneu, Liberiji i Ruandi udvostručio se u zadnjih tjedan dana, rekao je Mike Ryan, WHO-ov glavni stručnjak za hitne situacije, a pristup cjepivima je i dalje minimalan.
"Ovaj smjer je dosta zabrinjavajući", kazao je Ryan. "Brutalna stvarnost je da smo u vremenu kada se pojavljuje više varijanti s povećanom prenosivošću, ostavili ogroman dio stanovništva, ranjivo stanovništvo Afrike, bez cjepiva."
