George Robertson, bivši šef NATO-a, u razgovoru za BBC prisjetio se ranih dana vladavine ruskog predsjednika Vladimira Putina koji je u to vrijeme razmišljao o mogućem uključenju Rusije u savez.

“Putin s kojim sam se ja susreo, s kojim sam dobro poslovao, s kojim sam uspostavio vijeće NATO-Rusija, jako, jako je drugačiji od ovog trenutnog megalomana”, kazao je Lord Robertson za BBC.

“Čovjek koji je stajao pored mene u svibnju 2002. rekao je da Ukrajina suverena i neovisna nacionalna država koja će sama donositi odluke o sigurnosti, a sada je to čovjek koji kaže da Ukrajina nije država”, dodao je.

Lord Robertson se prisjetio kako je ruski lider razmišljao o NATO-u. “Na drugom sastanku me otvoreno pitao ‘Kad ćete pozvati Rusiju da se pridruži NATO-u?’. Rekao sam mu da ne pozivamo zemlje nego se one same prijavljuju, a on je odgovorio: ‘Pa, nećemo nećemo stajati u redu pored gomile zemalja koje nisu važne.‘”

Ipak, bivši šef NATO-a ne vjeruje da je Putin doista želio podnijeti zahtjev za članstvo. “Želio je da mu se to predstavi. Mislim da je uvijek mislio, a sada to misli još više, da je Rusija velika nacija na svjetskoj pozornici i da treba poštovanje koje je imao Sovjetski Savez.”

Smatra da stoga Putinu nikad ne bi bilo “udobno” u savezu koji okuplja ravnopravne nacije. Lord Robertson ističe da je Sovjetski Savez nekada bio priznat kao druga supersila u svijetu, ali Rusija danas nema takav status.

“Mislim da je upravo to na neki način izjedalo Putinov ego. Dodajte tu i ponekad slabosti Zapada, provokacije s kojim se suočavao i njegov ego – mislim da ga je to promijenilo i da je od čovjeka koji je želio surađivati s NATO-om postao čovjek koji u NATO-u vidi veliku prijetnju”, rekao je Robertson o ruskom predsjedniku.

No, Moskva drugačije gleda na stvari. Ruski dužnosnici tvrde da je proširenje NATO-a na istok potkopalo europsku sigurnost i dovelo do rata. Oni optužuju NATO da je prekršio obećanje Kremlju, dano navodno u danima umiranja SSSR-a, da savez neće prihvatiti zemlje koje su prethodno bile u orbiti Moskve.

Robertson navodi da takav dogovor nije postojao na papiru. “Ništa nije dogovoreno, nije postojao ugovor u tom smislu. Ali Vladimir Putin je bio taj koji je potpisao Rimsku deklaraciju 28. svibnja 2002. Isti komad papira koji sam ja potpisao, koji je sadržavao osnovna načela teritorijalnog integriteta što znači da nema uplitanja u druge zemlje. On je to potpisao i ne može kriviti nikoga drugog", prenosi N1.

George Robertson, bivši šef NATO-a, u razgovoru za BBC prisjetio se ranih dana vladavine ruskog predsjednika Vladimira Putina koji je u to vrijeme razmišljao o mogućem uključenju Rusije u savez.

“Putin s kojim sam se ja susreo, s kojim sam dobro poslovao, s kojim sam uspostavio vijeće NATO-Rusija, jako, jako je drugačiji od ovog trenutnog megalomana”, kazao je Lord Robertson za BBC.

“Čovjek koji je stajao pored mene u svibnju 2002. rekao je da Ukrajina suverena i neovisna nacionalna država koja će sama donositi odluke o sigurnosti, a sada je to čovjek koji kaže da Ukrajina nije država”, dodao je.

Lord Robertson se prisjetio kako je ruski lider razmišljao o NATO-u. “Na drugom sastanku me otvoreno pitao ‘Kad ćete pozvati Rusiju da se pridruži NATO-u?’. Ipak, bivši šef NATO-a ne vjeruje da je Putin doista želio podnijeti zahtjev za članstvo. “Želio je da mu se to predstavi. Mislim da je uvijek mislio, a sada to misli još više, da je Rusija velika nacija na svjetskoj pozornici i da treba poštovanje koje je imao Sovjetski Savez.”

Smatra da stoga Putinu nikad ne bi bilo “udobno” u savezu koji okuplja ravnopravne nacije. Lord Robertson ističe da je Sovjetski Savez nekada bio priznat kao druga supersila u svijetu, ali Rusija danas nema takav status.

“Mislim da je upravo to na neki način izjedalo Putinov ego. Dodajte tu i ponekad slabosti Zapada, provokacije s kojim se suočavao i njegov ego – mislim da ga je to promijenilo i da je od čovjeka koji je želio surađivati s NATO-om postao čovjek koji u NATO-u vidi veliku prijetnju”, rekao je Robertson o ruskom predsjedniku.

No, Moskva drugačije gleda na stvari. Ruski dužnosnici tvrde da je proširenje NATO-a na istok potkopalo europsku sigurnost i dovelo do rata. Oni optužuju NATO da je prekršio obećanje Kremlju, dano navodno u danima umiranja SSSR-a, da savez neće prihvatiti zemlje koje su prethodno bile u orbiti Moskve.

George Robertson, bivši šef NATO-a, u razgovoru za BBC prisjetio se ranih dana vladavine ruskog predsjednika Vladimira Putina koji je u to vrijeme razmišljao o mogućem uključenju Rusije u savez.

“Putin s kojim sam se ja susreo, s kojim sam dobro poslovao, s kojim sam uspostavio vijeće NATO-Rusija, jako, jako je drugačiji od ovog trenutnog megalomana”, kazao je Lord Robertson za BBC.

“Čovjek koji je stajao pored mene u svibnju 2002. rekao je da Ukrajina suverena i neovisna nacionalna država koja će sama donositi odluke o sigurnosti, a sada je to čovjek koji kaže da Ukrajina nije država”, dodao je.

Lord Robertson se prisjetio kako je ruski lider razmišljao o NATO-u. “Na drugom sastanku me otvoreno pitao ‘Kad ćete pozvati Rusiju da se pridruži NATO-u?’.
