Asteroid veći od Empire State Buildinga trebao bi u ponedjeljak proletjeti pokraj Zemlje, objavila je američka NASA. Asteroid, poznat kao 488453 (1994 XD), ima promjer između 370 i 830 metara, procjenjuju stručnjaci NASA-ina Centra za proučavanje objekata blizu Zemlje.

Očekuje se da će asteroid proći pokraj Zemlje na udaljenosti od 0,02114 AJ, pri čemu je jedna AJ udaljenost između Zemlje i Sunca. 0,02114 AJ iznosi oko 3,2 milijuna kilometara. Mjesec, primjerice, kruži oko Zemlje na udaljenosti od oko 384.633 kilometara, a Venera je udaljena 61 milijun kilometara na najbližoj točki.

Asteroidi su dijelovi planeta koji to nisu postali i sada kruže oko Sunca u glavnom asteroidnom pojasu između Marsa i Jupitera, rekao je za Newsweek Jay Tate, direktor zvjezdarnice Spaceguard Center u Velikoj Britaniji. Kako su relativno mali, putanja im se prilično lako može poremetiti tako da mogu sjeći orbite planeta. Prema procjeni NASA-e, u našem Sunčevu sustavu postoji više od 1,1 milijun asteroida i stalno se otkrivaju novi, piše Jutarnji list.

Znanstvenici predviđaju da će asteroid 488453 (1994 XD) proći pokraj Zemlje brzinom od 21,47 kilometara u sekundi. Kad ispalite metak, on leti 27 puta sporije. Prema podacima NASA-e, asteroid 488453 (1994 XD) napravi krug oko Sunca svakih 3,6 godina, ali ne prolazi svaki put blizu Zemlje. Većina asteroida u Sunčevu sustavu nalazi se u asteroidnom pojasu između Marsa i Jupitera. Povremeno gravitacija Jupitera uzrokuje izbacivanje nekih asteroida u unutrašnjost Sunčeva sustava, pa ponekad prolete i pokraj Zemlje. Asteroidi na udaljenosti od 48 milijuna kilometara od Zemlje klasificiraju se kao "objekti blizu Zemlje" (NEO). NASA ih je pronašla 31.000. NEO-i koji dođu unutar 7,4 milijuna kilometara od Zemljine orbite i imaju više od 140 metara u promjeru definirani su kao potencijalno opasni. Zbog veličine i blizine 488453 (1994 XD) je klasificiran kao potencijalno opasan, uz oko 2300 drugih, piše Jutarnji list.

"Označavanje potencijalno opasnim jednostavno znači da bi tijekom mnogih stoljeća i tisućljeća orbita asteroida mogla evoluirati u orbitu koja ima šanse utjecati na Zemlju", rekao je Paul Chodas, upravitelj Centra za proučavanje objekata blizu Zemlje.

Kad bi se asteroid veličine 488453 (1994 XD) sudario sa Zemljom, posljedice bi bile teške. "Asteroid promjera između 100 i 200 metara izazvao bi regionalnu katastrofu, uništivši malu zemlju, s globalnim ekonomskim posljedicama", rekao je Tate lani.

Asteroid veći od Empire State Buildinga trebao bi u ponedjeljak proletjeti pokraj Zemlje, objavila je američka NASA. Asteroid, poznat kao 488453 (1994 XD), ima promjer između 370 i 830 metara, procjenjuju stručnjaci NASA-ina Centra za proučavanje objekata blizu Zemlje.

Očekuje se da će asteroid proći pokraj Zemlje na udaljenosti od 0,02114 AJ, pri čemu je jedna AJ udaljenost između Zemlje i Sunca. 0,02114 AJ iznosi oko 3,2 milijuna kilometara. Mjesec, primjerice, kruži oko Zemlje na udaljenosti od oko 384.633 kilometara, a Venera je udaljena 61 milijun kilometara na najbližoj točki.

Asteroidi su dijelovi planeta koji to nisu postali i sada kruže oko Sunca u glavnom asteroidnom pojasu između Marsa i Jupitera, rekao je za Newsweek Jay Tate, direktor zvjezdarnice Spaceguard Center u Velikoj Britaniji. Kako su relativno mali, putanja im se prilično lako može poremetiti tako da mogu sjeći orbite planeta. Prema procjeni NASA-e, u našem Sunčevu sustavu postoji više od 1,1 milijun asteroida i stalno se otkrivaju novi, piše Jutarnji list.

Povremeno gravitacija Jupitera uzrokuje izbacivanje nekih asteroida u unutrašnjost Sunčeva sustava, pa ponekad prolete i pokraj Zemlje. Asteroidi na udaljenosti od 48 milijuna kilometara od Zemlje klasificiraju se kao "objekti blizu Zemlje" (NEO). NASA ih je pronašla 31.000. NEO-i koji dođu unutar 7,4 milijuna kilometara od Zemljine orbite i imaju više od 140 metara u promjeru definirani su kao potencijalno opasni. Zbog veličine i blizine 488453 (1994 XD) je klasificiran kao potencijalno opasan, uz oko 2300 drugih, piše Jutarnji list.

"Označavanje potencijalno opasnim jednostavno znači da bi tijekom mnogih stoljeća i tisućljeća orbita asteroida mogla evoluirati u orbitu koja ima šanse utjecati na Zemlju", rekao je Paul Chodas, upravitelj Centra za proučavanje objekata blizu Zemlje.

Kad bi se asteroid veličine 488453 (1994 XD) sudario sa Zemljom, posljedice bi bile teške. "Asteroid promjera između 100 i 200 metara izazvao bi regionalnu katastrofu, uništivši malu zemlju, s globalnim ekonomskim posljedicama", rekao je Tate lani.

Asteroid veći od Empire State Buildinga trebao bi u ponedjeljak proletjeti pokraj Zemlje, objavila je američka NASA. Asteroid, poznat kao 488453 (1994 XD), ima promjer između 370 i 830 metara, procjenjuju stručnjaci NASA-ina Centra za proučavanje objekata blizu Zemlje.

Očekuje se da će asteroid proći pokraj Zemlje na udaljenosti od 0,02114 AJ, pri čemu je jedna AJ udaljenost između Zemlje i Sunca. 0,02114 AJ iznosi oko 3,2 milijuna kilometara. Mjesec, primjerice, kruži oko Zemlje na udaljenosti od oko 384.633 kilometara, a Venera je udaljena 61 milijun kilometara na najbližoj točki.

Asteroidi su dijelovi planeta koji to nisu postali i sada kruže oko Sunca u glavnom asteroidnom pojasu između Marsa i Jupitera, rekao je za Newsweek Jay Tate, direktor zvjezdarnice Spaceguard Center u Velikoj Britaniji. Kako su relativno mali, putanja im se prilično lako može poremetiti tako da mogu sjeći orbite planeta. Prema procjeni NASA-e, u našem Sunčevu sustavu postoji više od 1,1 milijun asteroida i stalno se otkrivaju novi, piše Jutarnji list.
