Sedamdeset sedmogodišnji umirovljeni general Luka Džanko nepozvan je doputovao u Dubrovnik, na slavlje uz tridesetu obljetnicu bitke, kada je razbijen obruč u kojem su srpske i crnogorske snage dulje od godine držale grad. Kasno navečer uoči slavlja prijavio se na hotelskoj recepciji. Stariji ga je recepcioner prepoznao. Pamtio je kao kroz maglu Džankove manje ratne zasluge, vidio ga je negdje na rubu događaja u studenom hiljadu devetsto devedeset druge.
”Vaša soba nije plaćena”, primijetio je provjeravajući u kompjuteru.
”Nije”, kimnuo je general. “Došao sam o vlastitom trošku.”
”Platit ćete gotovinom ili karticom?”
”Gotovinom.”
Krucijalna uloga
Iz lifta je u to izašla grupa vitkih, dugonogih mladih žena. Prošle su pored recepcije u oblaku parfema, kuckajući potpeticama i smijući se bijelim zubima.
”Jesu li to...?” upitao je Džanko očarano ih gledajući.
”Jesu”, potvrdio je recepcionar ne čekajući da general završi pitanje. “I one su došle proslaviti obljetnicu velike bitke.”
”Mažoretkinje koje su oslobodile Dubrovnik”, rekao je Džanko svečano.
”Mažoretkinje koje su oslobodile Dubrovnik”, ponovio je hotelski službenik s poštovanjem i zahvalnošću.
”Puno je vremena prošlo, nisam ih odmah prepoznao”, ispričao se general.
”Razumijem”, rekao je recepcionar.
Džanko je rekao pomirljivo: “Njihova je uloga bila neusporedivo važnija.”
”Njihova je uloga bila presudna”, složio se recepcioner. “Nezaobilazna. Ključna. Takoreći, krucijalna.”
”Bez njih nikad ne bismo pobijedili”, zaključio je izvan svake sumnje umirovljeni general.
I tu je iznenada postao sjetan, u mislima se vratio u onu krvavu ratnu jesen. Neprijatelj je čvrsto držao položaj u jednom polju kod Čepikuća. Višestruko brojniji tukao je iz ukopanih tenkova, iz haubica, minobacača, šibao iz mitraljeskih gnijezda po našim momcima koji su u valovima napadali. Sve od zore su jurišali hrvatski vitezovi iz Šibenika, Splita, Kaštela, Sinja, Imotskog, Metkovića, Opuzena...
No, sve je bio uzaludno. Deseci njih ostali su beživotno ležati u kamenjaru. Samo su rijetki ranjenici uspjeli ispuzati iz toga pakla. Džanko je bio očajan, želio je prekinuti akciju.
”Momci, ovo više nema smisla”, preklinjao je preko radija, “povucite se.”
Ritam koračnice
No, momci su odbijali zapovijed. Za slobodu svoje domovine bili su spremni izginuti do zadnjega i zacijelo bi i izginuli, svi do jednoga, da se u sumrak odnekud iz daljine nisu začuli udarci doboša i jedna razdragana, vragolasta melodija. Čvrsti ritam koračnice postajao je sve jasniji. Sve bliži i bliži. I napokon, iz makije i niskog raslinja napokon su izronile djevojke u svjetloplavim uniformama ukrašenim zlatnim gajtanima, u kratkim, kratkim suknjicama i čizmicama, ozareno stupajući i spretno vrteći palicama.
”Mažoretkinje!” zavikali su oduševljeno hrvatski vitezovi izvirujući iz zaklona. “Mažoretkinje, braćo i junaci!”
”Mažoretkinje!” začulo se kratko zatim i s druge strane, iz redova jugokomunističke soldateske i njezinih bradatih pomagača, ali sasvim drugačijim tonom. “Mažoretkinje, bre!” zaderali su se užasnuto neprijatelji skačući iz ukopanih tenkova i mitraljeskih gnijezda, ostavljajući za sobom haubice i minobacače i bezglavo bježeći. Pulske protuoklopne, Zagrebačke lakojurišne, Zadarske motorizirano-desantne i Splitske mažoretkinje za posebne namjene tih su slavnih dana oslobodile stotine i stotine četvornih kilometara na jugu Hrvatske.
”Čudesna priča”, rekao je recepcioner zadivljeno i podigao rukav da pokaže: “Evo, pogledajte, sav sam se naježio.”
”Nikad nećemo moći dovoljno zahvaliti tim hrabrim djevojkama”, rekao je umirovljeni general Luka Džanko krišom brišući jednu suzu s obraza.

Sedamdeset sedmogodišnji umirovljeni general Luka Džanko nepozvan je doputovao u Dubrovnik, na slavlje uz tridesetu obljetnicu bitke, kada je razbijen obruč u kojem su srpske i crnogorske snage dulje od godine držale grad. Kasno navečer uoči slavlja prijavio se na hotelskoj recepciji. Stariji ga je recepcioner prepoznao. Pamtio je kao kroz maglu Džankove manje ratne zasluge, vidio ga je negdje na rubu događaja u studenom hiljadu devetsto devedeset druge.
”Vaša soba nije plaćena”, primijetio je provjeravajući u kompjuteru.
”Nije”, kimnuo je general. “Došao sam o vlastitom trošku.”
”Platit ćete gotovinom ili karticom?”
”Gotovinom.”
Krucijalna uloga
Iz lifta je u to izašla grupa vitkih, dugonogih mladih žena. Prošle su pored recepcije u oblaku parfema, kuckajući potpeticama i smijući se bijelim zubima.
”Jesu li to...?” upitao je Džanko očarano ih gledajući.
”Jesu”, potvrdio je recepcionar ne čekajući da general završi pitanje. “I one su došle proslaviti obljetnicu velike bitke.”
”Mažoretkinje koje su oslobodile Dubrovnik”, rekao je Džanko svečano.
”Mažoretkinje koje su oslobodile Dubrovnik”, ponovio je hotelski službenik s poštovanjem i zahvalnošću.
”Puno je vremena prošlo, nisam ih odmah prepoznao”, ispričao se general.
”Razumijem”, rekao je recepcionar.
Džanko je rekao pomirljivo: “Njihova je uloga bila neusporedivo važnija.”
”Njihova je uloga bila presudna”, složio se recepcioner. “Nezaobilazna. Ključna. Takoreći, krucijalna.”
”Bez njih nikad ne bismo pobijedili”, zaključio je izvan svake sumnje umirovljeni general.
I tu je iznenada postao sjetan, u mislima se vratio u onu krvavu ratnu jesen. Neprijatelj je čvrsto držao položaj u jednom polju kod Čepikuća. Višestruko brojniji tukao je iz ukopanih tenkova, iz haubica, minobacača, šibao iz mitraljeskih gnijezda po našim momcima koji su u valovima napadali. Sve od zore su jurišali hrvatski vitezovi iz Šibenika, Splita, Kaštela, Sinja, Imotskog, Metkovića, Opuzena...
No, sve je bio uzaludno. Deseci njih ostali su beživotno ležati u kamenjaru. Samo su rijetki ranjenici uspjeli ispuzati iz toga pakla. Džanko je bio očajan, želio je prekinuti akciju.
”Momci, ovo više nema smisla”, preklinjao je preko radija, “povucite se.”
Ritam koračnice
No, momci su odbijali zapovijed. Za slobodu svoje domovine bili su spremni izginuti do zadnjega i zacijelo bi i izginuli, svi do jednoga, da se u sumrak odnekud iz daljine nisu začuli udarci doboša i jedna razdragana, vragolasta melodija. Čvrsti ritam koračnice postajao je sve jasniji. Sve bliži i bliži. I napokon, iz makije i niskog raslinja napokon su izronile djevojke u svjetloplavim uniformama ukrašenim zlatnim gajtanima, u kratkim, kratkim suknjicama i čizmicama, ozareno stupajući i spretno vrteći palicama.
”Mažoretkinje!” zavikali su oduševljeno hrvatski vitezovi izvirujući iz zaklona. “Mažoretkinje, braćo i junaci!”
”Mažoretkinje!” začulo se kratko zatim i s druge strane, iz redova jugokomunističke soldateske i njezinih bradatih pomagača, ali sasvim drugačijim tonom. “Mažoretkinje, bre!” zaderali su se užasnuto neprijatelji skačući iz ukopanih tenkova i mitraljeskih gnijezda, ostavljajući za sobom haubice i minobacače i bezglavo bježeći. Pulske protuoklopne, Zagrebačke lakojurišne, Zadarske motorizirano-desantne i Splitske mažoretkinje za posebne namjene tih su slavnih dana oslobodile stotine i stotine četvornih kilometara na jugu Hrvatske.
”Čudesna priča”, rekao je recepcioner zadivljeno i podigao rukav da pokaže: “Evo, pogledajte, sav sam se naježio.”
”Nikad nećemo moći dovoljno zahvaliti tim hrabrim djevojkama”, rekao je umirovljeni general Luka Džanko krišom brišući jednu suzu s obraza.
