Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Iga Šwiatek zaustavila je Osječanku Donnu Vekić u pohodu na njen najveći trofej u karijeri pobijedivši je u finalu WTA 500 turnira u San Diegu sa 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 za jedan sat i 47 minuta borbe.

Bio je to njihov drugi međusobni dvoboj i drugi trijumf Poljakinje kojoj je ovo bila 64. pobjeda u ovoj sezoni u kojoj je doživjela samo osam poraza.

Bilo je to deseto finale na WTA Touru za Donnu Vekić, u kojem je po sedmi put zaradila utješnu nagradu, a ostala je na tri naslova osvojena 2014. u Kuala Lumpuru, 2017. u Nottinghamu i 2021. u Courmayeru.

Iga Šwiatek je nastupila u svom 13. finalu u karijeri, a devetom u ovoj godini. Nakon što je Barbora Krejčikova prošli tjedan u Ostravi prekinula niz 21-godišnje Poljakinje od deset uzastopnih pobjeda u finalima, prva tenisačica svijeta je u San Diegu došla do svog 11. naslova u karijeri.

Prva dva seta finalnog dvoboja bila su vrlo izjednačena i na visokoj kvalitativnoj razini izvedbe od obje tenisačice. U oba seta je jedan "break" bio odlučujući. Šwiatek je do njega došla u šestom gemu i za 40 minuta je privela kraju prvu dionicu dvoboja.

Po istom scenariju, u drugom setu je Donna iskoristila svoju prvu, a ispostavilo se i jednu priliku za "break" u meču, što joj je bilo dovoljno da nakon 42 minute igre u drugoj dionici odvede meč u treći set.

Nažalost, u njemu je 26-godišnja Osječanka ostala bez odgovora za razigranu i raspucanu Poljakinju. Šwiatek joj je prepustila svega pet poena - jedan je Donna uhvatila na reternu, a četiri nakon što je pogodila prvi servis. Na svom drugom servisu je ostala na realizaciji 0/8 u odlučujućem setu.

"Velike čestitke Igi, ne samo za danas, nego za cijelu godinu. Bila si predobra za mene danas. Nadam se da ćemo se jednog dana ponovno sresti u nekom finalu", rekla je na dodjeli priznanja Donna Vekić nakon što je zahvalila hrvatskim navijačima koji su je bodrili tijekom svih osam dana koliko je provela igrajući u San Diegu.

"Hvala i mojoj ekipi, ne samo za ovaj tjedan, nego za zadnjih godinu i pol. Bez vas se ne bih uspjela vratiti na ovu razinu. Ne samo ovoj dvojici koji su ovdje, nego svima onima koji su dugo ostajali budni kod kuće kako bi me gledali i navijali", poručila je Osječanka.

Poljakinja je Donni uzvratila komplimentima.

"Bio je napet meč, dosta dugačak. Obje smo udaračice. Željela sam biti ta koja će posljednja poslati loptu u teren. Nekoliko puta mi je to i uspjelo. U trećem setu sam željela biti opuštena na reternu, znajući kako Donna može servirati. I to mi je uspjelo. Prvi put smo igrale 2019., kad sam tek bila na početku. Drago mi je da si se vratila. Vjerujem da ćemo se još mnogo puta susresti u finalima", poručila je prva tenisačica svijeta. 

Nije zanemarivo to što je Šwiatek morala za ovaj naslov odigrati samo četiri meča, odnosno tri manje nego Vekić.

Bez obzira na takav završetak, Donna će se s veseljem sjećati tjedna koji je provela u San Diegu, gdje je iz kvalifikacija stigla na jedan set od najvećeg uspjeha u svojoj karijeri i prve pobjede nad aktualnim "brojem 1" na pojedinačnoj WTA ljestvici. Na putu do finala pobijedila je sedmu tenisačicu svijeta, Grkinju Mariju Sakkari  u prvom kolu te petu na WTA ljestvici, Bjeloruskinju Arinu Sabalenku u četvrtfinalu. U osmini finala je održala lekciju Čehinji Karolini Pliškovoj (WTA - 22.), a u polufinalu prekinutom kišom u subotu te nastavljenom u nedjelju, okrenula je zaostatak od 2-4 u odlučujućem setu protiv 19. tenisačice svijeta, Amerikanke Danielle Collins.

Bodovi osvojeni u San Diegu Donni će donijeti napredak na novoj WTA ljestvici od 30 mjesta te će se ponovno naći među 50 najboljih tenisačica svijeta, na 47. poziciji.

Šwiatek je samo učvrstila svoju poziciju na teniskom prijestolju i povećala prednost u odnosu na najbližu pratiteljicu na više od 6300 bodova.

Za Donnu Vekić odmora nema. U sljedećem tjednu čeka ju nastup na WTA 1000 turniru u meksičkoj Guadalajari, a suparnica u prvom kolu joj je Brazilka Laura Pigosi.

Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Iga Šwiatek zaustavila je Osječanku Donnu Vekić u pohodu na njen najveći trofej u karijeri pobijedivši je u finalu WTA 500 turnira u San Diegu sa 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 za jedan sat i 47 minuta borbe.

Bio je to njihov drugi međusobni dvoboj i drugi trijumf Poljakinje kojoj je ovo bila 64. pobjeda u ovoj sezoni u kojoj je doživjela samo osam poraza.

Bilo je to deseto finale na WTA Touru za Donnu Vekić, u kojem je po sedmi put zaradila utješnu nagradu, a ostala je na tri naslova osvojena 2014. u Kuala Lumpuru, 2017. u Nottinghamu i 2021. u Courmayeru.

Iga Šwiatek je nastupila u svom 13. finalu u karijeri, a devetom u ovoj godini. Nakon što je Barbora Krejčikova prošli tjedan u Ostravi prekinula niz 21-godišnje Poljakinje od deset uzastopnih pobjeda u finalima, prva tenisačica svijeta je u San Diegu došla do svog 11. naslova u karijeri.

Prva dva seta finalnog dvoboja bila su vrlo izjednačena i na visokoj kvalitativnoj razini izvedbe od obje tenisačice. U oba seta je jedan "break" bio odlučujući. Šwiatek je do njega došla u šestom gemu i za 40 minuta je privela kraju prvu dionicu dvoboja.

Po istom scenariju, u drugom setu je Donna iskoristila svoju prvu, a ispostavilo se i jednu priliku za "break" u meču, što joj je bilo dovoljno da nakon 42 minute igre u drugoj dionici odvede meč u treći set.

Nažalost, u njemu je 26-godišnja Osječanka ostala bez odgovora za razigranu i raspucanu Poljakinju. Šwiatek joj je prepustila svega pet poena - jedan je Donna uhvatila na reternu, a četiri nakon što je pogodila prvi servis. Na svom drugom servisu je ostala na realizaciji 0/8 u odlučujućem setu.

"Velike čestitke Igi, ne samo za danas, nego za cijelu godinu. Bila si predobra za mene danas. Nadam se da ćemo se jednog dana ponovno sresti u nekom finalu", rekla je na dodjeli priznanja Donna Vekić nakon što je zahvalila hrvatskim navijačima koji su je bodrili tijekom svih osam dana koliko je provela igrajući u San Diegu.

"Hvala i mojoj ekipi, ne samo za ovaj tjedan, nego za zadnjih godinu i pol. Bez vas se ne bih uspjela vratiti na ovu razinu. Ne samo ovoj dvojici koji su ovdje, nego svima onima koji su dugo ostajali budni kod kuće kako bi me gledali i navijali", poručila je Osječanka.

Poljakinja je Donni uzvratila komplimentima.

"Bio je napet meč, dosta dugačak. Obje smo udaračice. Željela sam biti ta koja će posljednja poslati loptu u teren. Nekoliko puta mi je to i uspjelo. U trećem setu sam željela biti opuštena na reternu, znajući kako Donna može servirati. I to mi je uspjelo. Prvi put smo igrale 2019., kad sam tek bila na početku. Drago mi je da si se vratila. Vjerujem da ćemo se još mnogo puta susresti u finalima", poručila je prva tenisačica svijeta. 

Nije zanemarivo to što je Šwiatek morala za ovaj naslov odigrati samo četiri meča, odnosno tri manje nego Vekić.

Bez obzira na takav završetak, Donna će se s veseljem sjećati tjedna koji je provela u San Diegu, gdje je iz kvalifikacija stigla na jedan set od najvećeg uspjeha u svojoj karijeri i prve pobjede nad aktualnim "brojem 1" na pojedinačnoj WTA ljestvici. Na putu do finala pobijedila je sedmu tenisačicu svijeta, Grkinju Mariju Sakkari  u prvom kolu te petu na WTA ljestvici, Bjeloruskinju Arinu Sabalenku u četvrtfinalu. U osmini finala je održala lekciju Čehinji Karolini Pliškovoj (WTA - 22.), a u polufinalu prekinutom kišom u subotu te nastavljenom u nedjelju, okrenula je zaostatak od 2-4 u odlučujućem setu protiv 19. tenisačice svijeta, Amerikanke Danielle Collins.

Bodovi osvojeni u San Diegu Donni će donijeti napredak na novoj WTA ljestvici od 30 mjesta te će se ponovno naći među 50 najboljih tenisačica svijeta, na 47. poziciji.

Šwiatek je samo učvrstila svoju poziciju na teniskom prijestolju i povećala prednost u odnosu na najbližu pratiteljicu na više od 6300 bodova.

Za Donnu Vekić odmora nema. U sljedećem tjednu čeka ju nastup na WTA 1000 turniru u meksičkoj Guadalajari, a suparnica u prvom kolu joj je Brazilka Laura Pigosi.

Donna Vekić zaustavljena u finalu WTA turnira u San Diegu

Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Iga Šwiatek zaustavila je Osječanku Donnu Vekić u pohodu na njen najveći trofej u karijeri pobijedivši je u finalu WTA 500 turnira u San Diegu sa 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 za jedan sat i 47 minuta borbe.

Bio je to njihov drugi međusobni dvoboj i drugi trijumf Poljakinje kojoj je ovo bila 64. pobjeda u ovoj sezoni u kojoj je doživjela samo osam poraza.

Bilo je to deseto finale na WTA Touru za Donnu Vekić, u kojem je po sedmi put zaradila utješnu nagradu, a ostala je na tri naslova osvojena 2014. u Kuala Lumpuru, 2017. u Nottinghamu i 2021. u Courmayeru.
