Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Australka Ashleigh Barty odlučila je da neće sudjelovati na ovogodišnjem US Openu koji bi se trebao održati od 31. kolovoza do 13. rujna na terenima teniskog centra Billie Jean King u New Yorku.

Takva odluka se dala naslutiti kad se ime prvorangirane igračice na pojedinačnoj WTA ljestvici nije pojavilo na listi prijavljenih za Western & Southern Openu, turniru koji će prethoditi US Openu, a ove će godine biti igran i na istim terenima, umjesto u Cincinnatiju.

"Volim oba turnira pa je ovo bila teška odluka. No, još uvijek postoji značajan rizik vezan za Covid-19 kojemu ne želim izlagati svoju ekipu i sebe", izjavila je putem priopćenja Ashleigh Barty.

"Poštujem odluku svake igračice. Ash je donijela odluku vodeći se onim što drži najboljim za sebe i svoju ekipu. Želimo joj svako dobro i veselimo se njenom povratku na teren s obzirom na to da je omiljena među ljubiteljima tenisa", izjavila je direktorica US Opena Stacey Allaster.

Za očekivati je da će biti još tenisačica koje će odustati od putovanja u New York, bez obzira na značaj dva turnira koja su planirana.

Osim Barty, na popisu prijavljenih igračica za Western & Southern Open, nema još tri tenisačice iz društva deset najboljih, a to su Ukrajinka Elina Svitolina (WTA - 5.), Kanađanka Bianca Andreescu (WTA - 6.) i Japanka Naomi Osaka (WTA - 10.).

Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Australka Ashleigh Barty odlučila je da neće sudjelovati na ovogodišnjem US Openu koji bi se trebao održati od 31. kolovoza do 13. rujna na terenima teniskog centra Billie Jean King u New Yorku.

Takva odluka se dala naslutiti kad se ime prvorangirane igračice na pojedinačnoj WTA ljestvici nije pojavilo na listi prijavljenih za Western & Southern Openu, turniru koji će prethoditi US Openu, a ove će godine biti igran i na istim terenima, umjesto u Cincinnatiju.

"Volim oba turnira pa je ovo bila teška odluka. No, još uvijek postoji značajan rizik vezan za Covid-19 kojemu ne želim izlagati svoju ekipu i sebe", izjavila je putem priopćenja Ashleigh Barty.

"Poštujem odluku svake igračice. Ash je donijela odluku vodeći se onim što drži najboljim za sebe i svoju ekipu. Želimo joj svako dobro i veselimo se njenom povratku na teren s obzirom na to da je omiljena među ljubiteljima tenisa", izjavila je direktorica US Opena Stacey Allaster.

Za očekivati je da će biti još tenisačica koje će odustati od putovanja u New York, bez obzira na značaj dva turnira koja su planirana.

Osim Barty, na popisu prijavljenih igračica za Western & Southern Open, nema još tri tenisačice iz društva deset najboljih, a to su Ukrajinka Elina Svitolina (WTA - 5.), Kanađanka Bianca Andreescu (WTA - 6.) i Japanka Naomi Osaka (WTA - 10.).

Najbolja tenisačica svijeta Australka Ashleigh Barty odlučila je da neće sudjelovati na ovogodišnjem US Openu koji bi se trebao održati od 31. kolovoza do 13. rujna na terenima teniskog centra Billie Jean King u New Yorku.

Takva odluka se dala naslutiti kad se ime prvorangirane igračice na pojedinačnoj WTA ljestvici nije pojavilo na listi prijavljenih za Western & Southern Openu, turniru koji će prethoditi US Openu, a ove će godine biti igran i na istim terenima, umjesto u Cincinnatiju.

"Volim oba turnira pa je ovo bila teška odluka. No, još uvijek postoji značajan rizik vezan za Covid-19 kojemu ne želim izlagati svoju ekipu i sebe", izjavila je putem priopćenja Ashleigh Barty.
