Danas je stigla potresna vijest iz Zagorja da je tijekom treninga za WRC Croatia Rally irski vozač Craig Breen izletio s ceste te prednjim lijevim krajem svog Hyundaija i20 udario u drveni stup. Od posljedica sudara je na mjestu preminuo, dok je njegov suvozač James Fulton prošao bez ozljeda. 

Nesreća se dogodila oko 12:40 sati u mjestu Lobor, na lokalnoj cesti 2201. Hitna pomoć je brzo stiga, no Breenu nažalost nije bilo spasa.

Ovo je prva smrt u natjecanjima WRC-a još od 2006. godine kada je poginuo Nijemac Jörg Bastuck.

Craig Breen je nastupao u WRC-u za tim Hyundai te mu je Croatia Rally trebao biti drugi nastup u ovoj sezoni, a radi se o jednom od najboljih vozača relija na svijetu. U karijeri je odvozio 81 utrku u sustavu WRC-a u kojima je skupio sveukupno 372 boda.

Rođen je u irskom gradu Waterfordu 2. veljače 1990., a trkačka krv mu je tekla venama. Naime, njegov otac je bio Ray Breen, nekadašnji prvak Irske u reliju. Craig se sa samo devet godina počeo natjecati u kartingu, da bi se 2009. godine potpuno posvetio reliju.

Prošle godine se natjecao za M-Sport Ford i iako je sezonu otvorio postoljem u Monte Carlu, nije uspio ostvariti zadovoljavajući rezultat.

Ove godine je nastupio u reliju u Švedskoj te je ostvario visoko drugo mjesto, što mu je i omogućilo da bude šesti na tablici WRC-a sa samo jednim nastupom.

Iako još nema pobjedu, čak osam puta je bio na postolju, te se nadao da bi upravo ove godine na Croatia Rallyju mogao promijeniti situaciju. Mnogi analitičari su ga proglasili jednim od najboljih reli vozača u povijesti bez pobjede.

Debitirao je u WRC-u s 19 godina, na reliju u Portugalu 2009. godine, a iste godine je i proglašen najboljim mladim vozačem Irske, osvojivši tri prvenstva u Fiesta Sporting Trophy prvenstvima. Tri godine kasnije je osvojio titulu prvaka SWRC-a nakon što je pobijedio četiri utrke u toj kategoriji.

No, 2012 mu se dogodila i još jedna velika tragedija. Sudjelovao je u jednom reli natjecanju na Siciliji gdje je u nesreći poginuo njegov suvozač Gareth Roberts.

Danas je stigla potresna vijest iz Zagorja da je tijekom treninga za WRC Croatia Rally irski vozač Craig Breen izletio s ceste te prednjim lijevim krajem svog Hyundaija i20 udario u drveni stup. Od posljedica sudara je na mjestu preminuo, dok je njegov suvozač James Fulton prošao bez ozljeda. 

Nesreća se dogodila oko 12:40 sati u mjestu Lobor, na lokalnoj cesti 2201. Hitna pomoć je brzo stiga, no Breenu nažalost nije bilo spasa.

Ovo je prva smrt u natjecanjima WRC-a još od 2006. godine kada je poginuo Nijemac Jörg Bastuck.

Craig Breen je nastupao u WRC-u za tim Hyundai te mu je Croatia Rally trebao biti drugi nastup u ovoj sezoni, a radi se o jednom od najboljih vozača relija na svijetu. U karijeri je odvozio 81 utrku u sustavu WRC-a u kojima je skupio sveukupno 372 boda.

Rođen je u irskom gradu Waterfordu 2. veljače 1990., a trkačka krv mu je tekla venama. Naime, njegov otac je bio Ray Breen, nekadašnji prvak Irske u reliju. Craig se sa samo devet godina počeo natjecati u kartingu, da bi se 2009. godine potpuno posvetio reliju.

Prošle godine se natjecao za M-Sport Ford i iako je sezonu otvorio postoljem u Monte Carlu, nije uspio ostvariti zadovoljavajući rezultat.

Ove godine je nastupio u reliju u Švedskoj te je ostvario visoko drugo mjesto, što mu je i omogućilo da bude šesti na tablici WRC-a sa samo jednim nastupom.

Iako još nema pobjedu, čak osam puta je bio na postolju, te se nadao da bi upravo ove godine na Croatia Rallyju mogao promijeniti situaciju. Mnogi analitičari su ga proglasili jednim od najboljih reli vozača u povijesti bez pobjede.

Debitirao je u WRC-u s 19 godina, na reliju u Portugalu 2009. godine, a iste godine je i proglašen najboljim mladim vozačem Irske, osvojivši tri prvenstva u Fiesta Sporting Trophy prvenstvima. Tri godine kasnije je osvojio titulu prvaka SWRC-a nakon što je pobijedio četiri utrke u toj kategoriji.

No, 2012 mu se dogodila i još jedna velika tragedija. Sudjelovao je u jednom reli natjecanju na Siciliji gdje je u nesreći poginuo njegov suvozač Gareth Roberts.

Irski vozač koji je poginuo u Hrvatskoj bio je jedan od najboljih, a 2012. mu se dogodila još jedna tragedija

Danas je stigla potresna vijest iz Zagorja da je tijekom treninga za WRC Croatia Rally irski vozač Craig Breen izletio s ceste te prednjim lijevim krajem svog Hyundaija i20 udario u drveni stup. Od posljedica sudara je na mjestu preminuo, dok je njegov suvozač James Fulton prošao bez ozljeda. 

Nesreća se dogodila oko 12:40 sati u mjestu Lobor, na lokalnoj cesti 2201. Hitna pomoć je brzo stiga, no Breenu nažalost nije bilo spasa.

Ovo je prva smrt u natjecanjima WRC-a još od 2006. godine kada je poginuo Nijemac Jörg Bastuck.

Craig Breen je nastupao u WRC-u za tim Hyundai te mu je Croatia Rally trebao biti drugi nastup u ovoj sezoni, a radi se o jednom od najboljih vozača relija na svijetu. U karijeri je odvozio 81 utrku u sustavu WRC-a u kojima je skupio sveukupno 372 boda.
