Dio pacijenata oboljelih od koronavirusa koji mjesecima nakon što su se testirali pozitivni osjećaju posljedice bolesti jedan od simptoma opisuju kao “moždanu maglu“ za koji počinju misliti da nikada neće prestati. Dr. Costantino Iadecola, neurolog koji vodi Feail institut za mozak na Medicinskom fakultetu Weill Cornell objašnjava što se do sada o tome zna za magazin Mashable.

Bliži se osam mjeseci otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 i postaje jasno da se dio od preko 44 milijuna ljudi širom svijeta koji su oboljeli od virusa ne oporavlja u potpunosti. Ti ljudi, od kojih su neki bolesni od samog početka pandemije, ponekad se žale na skraćen dah, slabost, osip i lupanje srca. Jedan od najčešćih dugotrajnih simptoma je i neprestana “moždana magla”.

Ona nije medicinski pojam već kolokvijalni naziv za niz kognitivnih simptoma poput zbunjenosti, problema s fokusiranjem, gubitka pamćenja i sporih reakcija. Pacijenti često kažu da se ne mogu koncentrirati, ne mogu se sjetiti obićnih stvari, osjećaju se kao da ne mogu ništa napraviti.

U kolovozu je objavljen članak koji preispituje učinke koje Covid-19 ima na živčani sustav, uključujući mozak. Neki od oboljelih od virusa mogu iskusiti neurološke simptome, od manjih poput gubitka okusa i mirisa do ozbiljnih komplikacija poput moždanih udara.

Ipak, istraživači ne razumiju kako se to događa. Nije jasno utječe li virus izravno na mozak ili su ti učinci neizravno posljedica drugih simptoma ili komplikacija. Na primjer, zbog nedostatka kisika ili zatajenja bubrega tijekom teške bolesti osoba može postati delirična, zbunjena i ponekad nasilna u stanju zvanom encefalopatija. Obje ove komplikacije mogu se pojaviti u teškim slučajevima Covida-19.

Slučajevi "moždane magle" nakon blažih slučajeva Covida-19 još više zbunjuju. Drugi ozbiljni koronavirusi, poput SARS-a i MERS-a, mogu ući u mozak i izazvati dugoročne posljedice. Ali ti su virusi općenito ozbiljniji pa još nije jasno hoće li se koronavirus ponašati isto. Pacijenti koji su preboljeli koronavirus mogu se ponekad osjećati toliko iscrpljenima da ne mogu raditi ili čak ustati iz kreveta, dok kod drugih ti kognitivni učinci mogu biti jedan od najslabijih simptoma.

Sindrom kroničnog umora ili mijalgijski encefalomijelitis (ME) može biti potaknut infekcijom. Čini se da su simptomi ME slični simptomima dugog Covida-19, što dovodi do toga da neki istraživači sumnjaju da može uzrokovati slično kronično stanje.

U velikom broju istraživanja otkriveno je da ljudi s ME imaju promijene u svojim citokinima, signalnim molekulama u imunološkom sustavu koje su također odgovorne za ekstremnu imunološku reakciju kod Covida-19 nazvanu "citokinska oluja". Iako ME pacijenti nemaju isti porast citokina koji izaziva ova imunološka reakcija, znanstvenici kažu da je to znak da imunološki sustav na neki način ne funkcionira kako treba.

Također nema specifičnog liječenja “moždane magle” koje se pojavljuje kod drugih kroničnih zdravstvenih stanja. Endometrioza, koja uzrokuje da se tkivo poput onog kojim se maternica normalno obnavlja nakuplja u drugim dijelovima tijela, ponekad je povezana s moždanom maglom. Postoje istraživanja koja sugeriraju da ljudi s endometriozom također imaju abnormalne imunološke reakcije. Tu je i istraživanje koje pokazuje da više ljudi s endometriozom ima depresiju, što može pridonijeti “moždanoj magli”. Također je nejasno je li moždana magla u različitim uvjetima zapravo ista, budući da je riječ o generičkom pojmu koji se može odnositi na čitav niz kognitivnih simptoma.

Zbog toga se pacijenti koji pate od ovog simptoma već dugi niz godina uslijed nekih drugih kroničnih bolesti nadaju da će im znanost zahvaljujući istraživanju koronavirusa ponuditi neka rješenja i u konačnici lijek.

Dio pacijenata oboljelih od koronavirusa koji mjesecima nakon što su se testirali pozitivni osjećaju posljedice bolesti jedan od simptoma opisuju kao “moždanu maglu“ za koji počinju misliti da nikada neće prestati. Dr. Costantino Iadecola, neurolog koji vodi Feail institut za mozak na Medicinskom fakultetu Weill Cornell objašnjava što se do sada o tome zna za magazin Mashable.

Bliži se osam mjeseci otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 i postaje jasno da se dio od preko 44 milijuna ljudi širom svijeta koji su oboljeli od virusa ne oporavlja u potpunosti. Ti ljudi, od kojih su neki bolesni od samog početka pandemije, ponekad se žale na skraćen dah, slabost, osip i lupanje srca. Jedan od najčešćih dugotrajnih simptoma je i neprestana “moždana magla”.

Ona nije medicinski pojam već kolokvijalni naziv za niz kognitivnih simptoma poput zbunjenosti, problema s fokusiranjem, gubitka pamćenja i sporih reakcija. Pacijenti često kažu da se ne mogu koncentrirati, ne mogu se sjetiti obićnih stvari, osjećaju se kao da ne mogu ništa napraviti.

U kolovozu je objavljen članak koji preispituje učinke koje Covid-19 ima na živčani sustav, uključujući mozak. Neki od oboljelih od virusa mogu iskusiti neurološke simptome, od manjih poput gubitka okusa i mirisa do ozbiljnih komplikacija poput moždanih udara.

Ipak, istraživači ne razumiju kako se to događa. Nije jasno utječe li virus izravno na mozak ili su ti učinci neizravno posljedica drugih simptoma ili komplikacija. Na primjer, zbog nedostatka kisika ili zatajenja bubrega tijekom teške bolesti osoba može postati delirična, zbunjena i ponekad nasilna u stanju zvanom encefalopatija. Obje ove komplikacije mogu se pojaviti u teškim slučajevima Covida-19.

Slučajevi "moždane magle" nakon blažih slučajeva Covida-19 još više zbunjuju. Drugi ozbiljni koronavirusi, poput SARS-a i MERS-a, mogu ući u mozak i izazvati dugoročne posljedice. Ali ti su virusi općenito ozbiljniji pa još nije jasno hoće li se koronavirus ponašati isto. Pacijenti koji su preboljeli koronavirus mogu se ponekad osjećati toliko iscrpljenima da ne mogu raditi ili čak ustati iz kreveta, dok kod drugih ti kognitivni učinci mogu biti jedan od najslabijih simptoma.

Sindrom kroničnog umora ili mijalgijski encefalomijelitis (ME) može biti potaknut infekcijom. Čini se da su simptomi ME slični simptomima dugog Covida-19, što dovodi do toga da neki istraživači sumnjaju da može uzrokovati slično kronično stanje.

U velikom broju istraživanja otkriveno je da ljudi s ME imaju promijene u svojim citokinima, signalnim molekulama u imunološkom sustavu koje su također odgovorne za ekstremnu imunološku reakciju kod Covida-19 nazvanu "citokinska oluja". Iako ME pacijenti nemaju isti porast citokina koji izaziva ova imunološka reakcija, znanstvenici kažu da je to znak da imunološki sustav na neki način ne funkcionira kako treba.

Također nema specifičnog liječenja “moždane magle” koje se pojavljuje kod drugih kroničnih zdravstvenih stanja. Endometrioza, koja uzrokuje da se tkivo poput onog kojim se maternica normalno obnavlja nakuplja u drugim dijelovima tijela, ponekad je povezana s moždanom maglom. Postoje istraživanja koja sugeriraju da ljudi s endometriozom također imaju abnormalne imunološke reakcije. Tu je i istraživanje koje pokazuje da više ljudi s endometriozom ima depresiju, što može pridonijeti “moždanoj magli”. Također je nejasno je li moždana magla u različitim uvjetima zapravo ista, budući da je riječ o generičkom pojmu koji se može odnositi na čitav niz kognitivnih simptoma.

Zbog toga se pacijenti koji pate od ovog simptoma već dugi niz godina uslijed nekih drugih kroničnih bolesti nadaju da će im znanost zahvaljujući istraživanju koronavirusa ponuditi neka rješenja i u konačnici lijek.

Dio pacijenata oboljelih od koronavirusa koji mjesecima nakon što su se testirali pozitivni osjećaju posljedice bolesti jedan od simptoma opisuju kao “moždanu maglu“ za koji počinju misliti da nikada neće prestati. Dr. Costantino Iadecola, neurolog koji vodi Feail institut za mozak na Medicinskom fakultetu Weill Cornell objašnjava što se do sada o tome zna za magazin Mashable.

Bliži se osam mjeseci otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 i postaje jasno da se dio od preko 44 milijuna ljudi širom svijeta koji su oboljeli od virusa ne oporavlja u potpunosti. Ti ljudi, od kojih su neki bolesni od samog početka pandemije, ponekad se žale na skraćen dah, slabost, osip i lupanje srca. Jedan od najčešćih dugotrajnih simptoma je i neprestana “moždana magla”.
