Popaj otvara limenku špinata i dobiva snagu za koju nije znao da ima, te spašava Olivu koja je u rukama strašnog Badže... Tako se popularnost ovog lisnatog povrća proširila diljem Sjedinjenih Država, a zatim se razgranala širom svijeta. Međutim, nisu sve informacije koje smo imali o prehrambenim prednostima špinata bile istinite.

Podrijetlo špinata je u Perziji, a zatim stiže u Kinu po nalogu kralja Nepala koji ga je ponudio kao dar. Njegov dolazak u Španjolsku bio je zahvaljujući Arapima u 11. stoljeću i njegovom uzgoju koji se proširio po ostatku Europe. U 15. i 16. stoljeću, glavni potrošači već su bili Engleska, Nizozemska i Francuska. Pripada obitelji Chenopodiaceae, to je povrće s jestivim lišćem, velikim i malim stabljikama (također jestivim) i tamnozelenim. Podrijetlo špinata je u Perziji, a zatim stiže u Kinu po nalogu kralja Nepala koji ga je ponudio kao dar.
