Dušikov oksid je plin s prilično zavidnim medicinskim životopisom. Njegovo otkriće dovelo je do liječenja koje svake godine spasi od smrti tisuće novorođenčadi kojima nedostaje kisika zbog srčanih mana.

Kasnije je istraživanje sposobnosti plina da opušta krvne žile dovelo do razvoja najpoznatije svjetske male plave tablete Viagre koja se koristi za liječenje erektilne disfunkcije.

Godine 1992., stručni časopis Science nazvao je dušikov oksid "molekulom godine". Šest godina kasnije, farmakolog s Kalifornijskog sveučilišta u Los Angelesu Louis J. Ignarro podijelio je Nobelovu nagradu za medicinu s Feridom Muradom i Robertom F. Furchgottom za otkriće uloge dušikovog oksida kao "signalne molekule u kardiovaskularnom sustavu".

Ali izgleda da to nije sve. Dušikov oksid, bezbojan plin bez mirisa koji se udiše kroz masku, sada se testira kao eksperimentalni lijek za covid-19.

Također bi se mogao pokazati korisnim u zaštiti zdravstvenih radnika, koji su u prvim redovima borbe protiv pandemije.

U bolnicama u Bostonu, Alabami, Louisiani, Švedskoj i Austriji znanstvenici su pokrenuli kliničko ispitivanje kako bi vidjeli učinke udisanja dušikovog oksida kod pacijenata s blagim do umjerenim simptomima covida-19.

Ispitivanjem će se utvrditi može li taj plin smanjiti broj pacijenata koji završe na respiratoru.

Oko 30 minuta dva ili tri puta dnevno sudionici studije udisati će visoku dozu dušikovog oksida kroz masku. Kontrolna skupina neće udisati dušikov oksid.

U Italiji je taj plin korišten u puno težim okolnostima i izgleda da je dramatično povećao razinu kisika u krvi oboljelih od covida-19, rekao je dr. Lorenzo Berra iz Opće bolnice u Massachusettsu koji vodi novo ispitivanje.

Međutim, bit će potrebna rigoroznija testiranja kako bi se utvrdilo koliko dušikov oksid pomaže, kazao je.

Dušikov oksid je plin s prilično zavidnim medicinskim životopisom. Njegovo otkriće dovelo je do liječenja koje svake godine spasi od smrti tisuće novorođenčadi kojima nedostaje kisika zbog srčanih mana.

Kasnije je istraživanje sposobnosti plina da opušta krvne žile dovelo do razvoja najpoznatije svjetske male plave tablete Viagre koja se koristi za liječenje erektilne disfunkcije.

Godine 1992., stručni časopis Science nazvao je dušikov oksid "molekulom godine". Šest godina kasnije, farmakolog s Kalifornijskog sveučilišta u Los Angelesu Louis J. Ignarro podijelio je Nobelovu nagradu za medicinu s Feridom Muradom i Robertom F. Furchgottom za otkriće uloge dušikovog oksida kao "signalne molekule u kardiovaskularnom sustavu".

Ali izgleda da to nije sve. Dušikov oksid, bezbojan plin bez mirisa koji se udiše kroz masku, sada se testira kao eksperimentalni lijek za covid-19.

Također bi se mogao pokazati korisnim u zaštiti zdravstvenih radnika, koji su u prvim redovima borbe protiv pandemije.

U bolnicama u Bostonu, Alabami, Louisiani, Švedskoj i Austriji znanstvenici su pokrenuli kliničko ispitivanje kako bi vidjeli učinke udisanja dušikovog oksida kod pacijenata s blagim do umjerenim simptomima covida-19.

Ispitivanjem će se utvrditi može li taj plin smanjiti broj pacijenata koji završe na respiratoru.

Oko 30 minuta dva ili tri puta dnevno sudionici studije udisati će visoku dozu dušikovog oksida kroz masku. Kontrolna skupina neće udisati dušikov oksid.

U Italiji je taj plin korišten u puno težim okolnostima i izgleda da je dramatično povećao razinu kisika u krvi oboljelih od covida-19, rekao je dr. Lorenzo Berra iz Opće bolnice u Massachusettsu koji vodi novo ispitivanje.

Međutim, bit će potrebna rigoroznija testiranja kako bi se utvrdilo koliko dušikov oksid pomaže, kazao je.

Godine 1992., stručni časopis Science nazvao je dušikov oksid "molekulom godine". Šest godina kasnije, farmakolog s Kalifornijskog sveučilišta u Los Angelesu Louis J. Ignarro podijelio je Nobelovu nagradu za medicinu s Feridom Muradom i Robertom F. Furchgottom za otkriće uloge dušikovog oksida kao "signalne molekule u kardiovaskularnom sustavu".
