Muškarac je 17 godina živio s natečenim, djelomično erektiranim penisom, dok liječnici konačno nisu otkrili zastrašujući uzrok. Šokantnu dijagnozu dobio je nakon što je gotovo dva desetljeća patio u tišini. Iako je ovaj 72-godišnji muškarac živio u Švicarskoj 20 godina, emigrirao je tamo iz Zimbabvea - piše The Sun.

Živio je s oteklinama na nozi, skrotumu i penisu - zbog čega je njegov spolni organ stajao napola uspravno - prije nego što su liječnici došli do korijena problema. Neobični simptomi prvi put su uočeni kada je napokon hospitaliziran.

Liječnici su uočili višak tekućine u njegovoj nozi, što je uzrokovalo oteklinu koja se ne bi ulegla ni kad bi je pritisnuli. Posjet dermatološkoj klinici u Baselu u Švicarskoj kasnije će otkriti i otekline na čovjekovom penisu i skrotumu.

Nakon niza testova utvrđeno je da je muškarac zaražen mikroskopski sitnim crvima, tankima poput konca, koji su mu izazivali upalu na intimnim dijelovima i nozi.

Dijagnosticirana mu je kronična limfna filarijaza, objasnili su liječnici Sveučilišne bolnice u Baselu u časopisu New England Journal of Medicine.

Ovo je parazitska infekcija koju prenose komarci, gdje crvi zvani nematode napadaju limfni sustav, koji je bitan u borbi protiv infekcija i održavanje ravnoteže tekućine u tijelu.

Limfna filarijaza se globalno smatra zanemarenom tropskom bolešću.

Nakon što su ga pregledali, liječnici Sveučilišne bolnice Basel primijetili su da je pacijentov broj eozinofila gotovo dvostruko veći od normalnog, što ukazuje na infekciju.

Eozinofili su bijele krvne stanice koje se aktiviraju kada imate određene alergijske bolesti ili infekcije.

"Magnetna rezonancija zdjelice pokazala je oticanje tkiva skrotuma s obje strane", dodali su liječnici. Testovi na antitijela pokazali su se pozitivnima na Wuchereria bancrofti, mikroskopske crve tanke poput niti konca, nakon čega je postalo jasno da pacijent ima kroničnu limfnu filarijazu.

Prepisana su mu dva jaka lijeka protiv parazita, za ubijanje crva.

"Na kontrolnom pregledu dva mjeseca nakon završetka liječenja pacijentovi su simptomi nestali", primijetili su liječnici.

Kako se širi limfna filarijaza?

Limfnu filarijazu mogu uzrokovati tri vrste končastih parazitskih crva:

- Wuchereria bancrofti, koja je odgovorna za 90 posto slučajeva;

- Brugia malayi, koja uzrokuje većinu preostalih slučajeva;

- Brugia timori, koja također uzrokuje bolest.

Bolest uzrokuju komarci koji pokupe zarazu nakon što ugrizu zaraženog domaćina.

Ličinke crva prenijet će na kožu i u tijelo iduće "žrtve".   Nakon što se izlegu, crvi se smjeste u ljudski limfni sustav i blokiraju limfnu drenažu. Većina zaraženih ljudi neće razviti simptome, ali paraziti svejedno nanose štetu njihovom limfnom sustavu.

No, manji broj ljudi će razviti limfedem - oticanje ruku, nogu, grudi i genitalija - a neki muškarci će patiti od oticanja skrotuma koje se naziva hidrokela.

Većina ljudi razvije ove simptome čak godinama nakon što su zaraženi.

Prema podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije (WHO), crvi mogu živjeti otprilike šest do osam godina i tijekom svog života proizvesti milijune ličinki koje cirkuliraju u krvi.

Muškarac je 17 godina živio s natečenim, djelomično erektiranim penisom, dok liječnici konačno nisu otkrili zastrašujući uzrok. Šokantnu dijagnozu dobio je nakon što je gotovo dva desetljeća patio u tišini. Iako je ovaj 72-godišnji muškarac živio u Švicarskoj 20 godina, emigrirao je tamo iz Zimbabvea - piše The Sun.

Živio je s oteklinama na nozi, skrotumu i penisu - zbog čega je njegov spolni organ stajao napola uspravno - prije nego što su liječnici došli do korijena problema. Neobični simptomi prvi put su uočeni kada je napokon hospitaliziran.

Liječnici su uočili višak tekućine u njegovoj nozi, što je uzrokovalo oteklinu koja se ne bi ulegla ni kad bi je pritisnuli. Posjet dermatološkoj klinici u Baselu u Švicarskoj kasnije će otkriti i otekline na čovjekovom penisu i skrotumu.

Nakon niza testova utvrđeno je da je muškarac zaražen mikroskopski sitnim crvima, tankima poput konca, koji su mu izazivali upalu na intimnim dijelovima i nozi.

Dijagnosticirana mu je kronična limfna filarijaza, objasnili su liječnici Sveučilišne bolnice u Baselu u časopisu New England Journal of Medicine.

Ovo je parazitska infekcija koju prenose komarci, gdje crvi zvani nematode napadaju limfni sustav, koji je bitan u borbi protiv infekcija i održavanje ravnoteže tekućine u tijelu.

Limfna filarijaza se globalno smatra zanemarenom tropskom bolešću.

Nakon što su ga pregledali, liječnici Sveučilišne bolnice Basel primijetili su da je pacijentov broj eozinofila gotovo dvostruko veći od normalnog, što ukazuje na infekciju.

Eozinofili su bijele krvne stanice koje se aktiviraju kada imate određene alergijske bolesti ili infekcije.

"Magnetna rezonancija zdjelice pokazala je oticanje tkiva skrotuma s obje strane", dodali su liječnici. Testovi na antitijela pokazali su se pozitivnima na Wuchereria bancrofti, mikroskopske crve tanke poput niti konca, nakon čega je postalo jasno da pacijent ima kroničnu limfnu filarijazu.

Prepisana su mu dva jaka lijeka protiv parazita, za ubijanje crva.

"Na kontrolnom pregledu dva mjeseca nakon završetka liječenja pacijentovi su simptomi nestali", primijetili su liječnici.

Kako se širi limfna filarijaza?

Limfnu filarijazu mogu uzrokovati tri vrste končastih parazitskih crva:

- Wuchereria bancrofti, koja je odgovorna za 90 posto slučajeva;

- Brugia malayi, koja uzrokuje većinu preostalih slučajeva;

- Brugia timori, koja također uzrokuje bolest.

Bolest uzrokuju komarci koji pokupe zarazu nakon što ugrizu zaraženog domaćina.

Ličinke crva prenijet će na kožu i u tijelo iduće "žrtve".   Nakon što se izlegu, crvi se smjeste u ljudski limfni sustav i blokiraju limfnu drenažu. Većina zaraženih ljudi neće razviti simptome, ali paraziti svejedno nanose štetu njihovom limfnom sustavu.

No, manji broj ljudi će razviti limfedem - oticanje ruku, nogu, grudi i genitalija - a neki muškarci će patiti od oticanja skrotuma koje se naziva hidrokela.

Većina ljudi razvije ove simptome čak godinama nakon što su zaraženi.

Prema podacima Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije (WHO), crvi mogu živjeti otprilike šest do osam godina i tijekom svog života proizvesti milijune ličinki koje cirkuliraju u krvi.
