Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, utjecaj Justinijanove kuge bio je mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale, piše National Geographic.

Justinijanova kuga se proširila zapadnom Euroazijom između 6. i 8. vijeka nove ere, i tako postalo prvo poznato izbijanje bubonske kuge u ovom dijelu svijeta.

Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, njezin utjecaj je bio mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale.

Neki znanstvenici smatraju da je ova 'prva pandemija' možda ubila skoro polovicu stanovništva mediteranske regije, što je pomoglo u rušenju Rimskog carstva. 

U međuvremenu, drugi povjesničari tvrde da su posljedice bile daleko manje značajne, i sugeriraju da epidemija možda nije imala veću snagu od gripa u modernom društvu. 

Povjesničar Peter Sarris sa Sveučilišta u Cambridgeu kaže da povjesničari i arheolozi moraju surađivati s genetičarima i znanstvenicima s područja životne sredine kako bi u potpunosti razumjeli obujam i razmjere izbijanja drevnih bolesti – uključujući, u ovom konkretnom primjeru, izbijanje bubonske kuge.

- Neki povjesničari su i dalje duboko neprijateljski nastrojeni prema mišljenju da su izvanjski faktori, kao što je bolest, imali velik utjecaj na razvoj ljudskog društva, a skepticizam u odnosu na kugu je u centru pažnje posljednjih godina - kaže Sarris.

On ukazuje i na brojne tragove koji pokazuju razarajući učinak Justinijanove kuge, uključujući nalet zakona o kriznim mjerama koji su doneseni između 542. i 545. godine.

Na primjer, zakon usvojen 542. osmišljen da podrži bankarski sektor Rimskog Carstva sadrži opise koji ukazuju na to da je napisan usred 'prisustva smrti' od strane Justinijana. Drugi zakoni u to vrijeme imali su za cilj da se izbjegne eksploatacija radnika tijkom onoga što je izgledalo kao ozbiljan nedostatak radne snage.

Štoviše, izdana je serija lakih zlatnika, što je predstavljalo prvo smanjenje vrijednosti zlatne valute – nešto što bi se u to vrijeme smatralo hitnim bankarskim zakonima. Otprilike u isto vrijeme smanjena je i težina bakarnog novca koji je bio u optjecaju u Carigradu.

Neke studije koriste relativno rijetko spominjanje kuge u drevnoj literaturi kao dokaz da njezini efekti nisu bili toliko rasprostranjeni ili štetni po društvo, ali upravo ovi zakoni su veoma važni znaci da je postojala velika kriza, tvrdi Sarris.

- Svjedočenje o kugi iz prve ruke primoralo je ondašnjeg povjesničara Prokopija da se odvoji od svog vojnog narativa i napiše mučan izvještaj o dolasku kuge u Carigrad, koji će ostaviti dubok dojam na sljedeće generacije vizantijskih čitatelja - kaže Sarris. 

Sarris takođe ističe rastuću količinu DNK dokaza koji pokazuju koliko se daleko proširila bubonska kuga u navedenom razdoblju.

U ovom konkretnom slučaju, bolest je možda došla u Englesku preko baltičkih i skandinavskih zemalja, stigavši tamo i prije nego što je pogodila Mediteran – i dajući povjesničarima novo razumijevanje o tome kako je ova "prva pandemija" evoluirala.

- Možemo mnogo naučiti iz toga na koji način su naši preci reagirali na epidemijske bolesti i kako su pandemije utjecale na društvene strukture, raspodjelu bogatstva i načine razmišljanja. Sve veći broj genetskih dokaza vodit će u pravcima koje još uvijek jedva možemo predviditi, a povjesničari moraju biti u stanju pružiti pozitivan odgovor, a ne slijegati ramenima - rekao je Sarris, prenosi National Geographic.

Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, utjecaj Justinijanove kuge bio je mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale, piše National Geographic.

Justinijanova kuga se proširila zapadnom Euroazijom između 6. i 8. vijeka nove ere, i tako postalo prvo poznato izbijanje bubonske kuge u ovom dijelu svijeta.

Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, njezin utjecaj je bio mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale.

Neki znanstvenici smatraju da je ova 'prva pandemija' možda ubila skoro polovicu stanovništva mediteranske regije, što je pomoglo u rušenju Rimskog carstva. 

U međuvremenu, drugi povjesničari tvrde da su posljedice bile daleko manje značajne, i sugeriraju da epidemija možda nije imala veću snagu od gripa u modernom društvu. 

Povjesničar Peter Sarris sa Sveučilišta u Cambridgeu kaže da povjesničari i arheolozi moraju surađivati s genetičarima i znanstvenicima s područja životne sredine kako bi u potpunosti razumjeli obujam i razmjere izbijanja drevnih bolesti – uključujući, u ovom konkretnom primjeru, izbijanje bubonske kuge.

- Neki povjesničari su i dalje duboko neprijateljski nastrojeni prema mišljenju da su izvanjski faktori, kao što je bolest, imali velik utjecaj na razvoj ljudskog društva, a skepticizam u odnosu na kugu je u centru pažnje posljednjih godina - kaže Sarris.

On ukazuje i na brojne tragove koji pokazuju razarajući učinak Justinijanove kuge, uključujući nalet zakona o kriznim mjerama koji su doneseni između 542. i 545. godine.

Na primjer, zakon usvojen 542. osmišljen da podrži bankarski sektor Rimskog Carstva sadrži opise koji ukazuju na to da je napisan usred 'prisustva smrti' od strane Justinijana. Drugi zakoni u to vrijeme imali su za cilj da se izbjegne eksploatacija radnika tijkom onoga što je izgledalo kao ozbiljan nedostatak radne snage.

Štoviše, izdana je serija lakih zlatnika, što je predstavljalo prvo smanjenje vrijednosti zlatne valute – nešto što bi se u to vrijeme smatralo hitnim bankarskim zakonima. Otprilike u isto vrijeme smanjena je i težina bakarnog novca koji je bio u optjecaju u Carigradu.

Neke studije koriste relativno rijetko spominjanje kuge u drevnoj literaturi kao dokaz da njezini efekti nisu bili toliko rasprostranjeni ili štetni po društvo, ali upravo ovi zakoni su veoma važni znaci da je postojala velika kriza, tvrdi Sarris.

- Svjedočenje o kugi iz prve ruke primoralo je ondašnjeg povjesničara Prokopija da se odvoji od svog vojnog narativa i napiše mučan izvještaj o dolasku kuge u Carigrad, koji će ostaviti dubok dojam na sljedeće generacije vizantijskih čitatelja - kaže Sarris. 

Sarris takođe ističe rastuću količinu DNK dokaza koji pokazuju koliko se daleko proširila bubonska kuga u navedenom razdoblju.

U ovom konkretnom slučaju, bolest je možda došla u Englesku preko baltičkih i skandinavskih zemalja, stigavši tamo i prije nego što je pogodila Mediteran – i dajući povjesničarima novo razumijevanje o tome kako je ova "prva pandemija" evoluirala.

- Možemo mnogo naučiti iz toga na koji način su naši preci reagirali na epidemijske bolesti i kako su pandemije utjecale na društvene strukture, raspodjelu bogatstva i načine razmišljanja. Sve veći broj genetskih dokaza vodit će u pravcima koje još uvijek jedva možemo predviditi, a povjesničari moraju biti u stanju pružiti pozitivan odgovor, a ne slijegati ramenima - rekao je Sarris, prenosi National Geographic.

Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, utjecaj Justinijanove kuge bio je mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale, piše National Geographic.

Justinijanova kuga se proširila zapadnom Euroazijom između 6. i 8. vijeka nove ere, i tako postalo prvo poznato izbijanje bubonske kuge u ovom dijelu svijeta.

Prema novoj analizi drevnih tekstova i genetskih podataka, njezin utjecaj je bio mnogo ozbiljniji nego što su ranije studije sugerirale.

Neki znanstvenici smatraju da je ova 'prva pandemija' možda ubila skoro polovicu stanovništva mediteranske regije, što je pomoglo u rušenju Rimskog carstva. 

U međuvremenu, drugi povjesničari tvrde da su posljedice bile daleko manje značajne, i sugeriraju da epidemija možda nije imala veću snagu od gripa u modernom dr...
