"Monoton život trebalo bi izbjeći", slušamo u uvodu filma "Morrisey: Engleska pripada meni" o osnivaču i pjevaču grupe The Smiths, autoru hitova poput "How Soon Is Now?", "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out"... Za Oscara nominirani redatelj Mark Gill (kratkiš "The Voorman Problem") poslušao je taj savjet u svom dugometražnom prvijencu.

"England Is Mine" izbjegava monotoniju, ako već ne uspijeva posve izbjeći tipologiju biografske drame. Pozicioniran po dometima negdje između filma o Freddieju Mercuryju ("Bohemian Rhapsody") i Eltonu Johnu ("Rocketman"), "Engleska pripada meni" se, svakako, bori protiv dosade i ukalupljivanja.

Baš kao što se u formativnim post-tinejdžerskim godinama borio introvertirani i jedinstveni Steven Patrick Morrisey (dojmljivi Jack Lowden, "Dunkirk") radeći činovnički posao i sanjajući o glazbenoj karijeri. "Zašto ne možeš biti poput drugih", pitaju Morriseyja u jednoj sceni.

Formativne Morriseyjeve godine forte su filma "Engleska pripada meni", ambijentiranog u Manchester na izmaku sedamdesetih i stvorenog za vjerne fanove utjecajnog britanskog benda osamdesetih koji znaju da naslov "England Is Mine" potječe iz pjesme "Still Ill" s prvog albuma "The Smiths" i spremno nastavljaju stihove "... it owes me a living, But ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye...", ali žele čuti kako je njihov ikonički heroj postao glas jedne "alter rock" generacije.

Istina, priča završava baš kad zapravo počinje, pojavom gitarista Johnnyja Marra (Laurie Kynaston), ali do nekog idućeg "biopica", fokusiranog isključivo na Smithse, bolje da se "England is Mine" bavi mladim nego starim Morriseyjem s obzirom na njegove verbalne ispade na temu Brexita i izbjeglica.

Iako, taj stari Morrisey kao da se nazire u filmu s unutarnjim razmišljanjima tipa "Da u Engleskoj dođe do revolucije, formirali bi red za giljotinu" i kritiziranjem "autodestruktivnih poriva" Clashovca Joea Strummera. Unutarnja razmišljanja mladog Morriseyja formirala su ga kao glazbenika, zaključno sa svim što je čitao, slušao i pisao. John Keats, William Butler Yeats, Oscar Wilde, časopis "Melody Maker", knjiga "The Monsters Of The Moors", David Bowie, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Roxy Music...

Svi su oni oblikovali slikovite stihove ili popistički melodiozan, uhu-ugodan zvuk Smithsa, mjerodavan za buduće "alter" i "indie" rock bendove, Morriseyjev pogled na (glazbeni) svijet koji je izražavao pišući kritike onoga što je čuo na koncertima, a slušao je sve, čak i predgrupe, bio na svirkama Patti Smith i Sex Pistolsa.

Pomogla je i njegova platonska prijateljica Linder Sterling (odlična Jessica Brown Findlay). "Nisi Jane Austen, opusti pisanje, više točaka, sa zarezom", savjetovala je ona mladiću koji "govori rabeći komplicirane riječi". "Piši, pjevaj", bodrila ga je Linder, kao i njegova majka Elizabeth (Simone Kirby).

Na Morriseyjevu opasku "svijet nije zamišljen za ljude poput mene", majka je predložila "onda stvori svoj svijet" i kazala mu "jedina si verzija sebe". "Engleska pripada meni" nije jedina verzija biografskog filma i Morrisey bi sam vjerojatno rekao "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", ali Gill se trudi obogatiti žanr tako što ga je preselio u dramu o odrastanju s protagonistom koji traži svoje (glazbeno) mjesto na svijetu.

Gill je čak malčice i subverzivan: Morrisey će zapjevati tek u 45. minuti filma, dakle oko polovice. Događa se to kad se, na nagovor Linder, napokon popne na pozornicu s kratkotrajnom grupom The Nosebleeds gdje je svirao i Billy Duffy (Adam Lawrence, "Peaky Blinders"), gitarist kultne hard rock skupine The Cult koji ga je upoznao s Marrom. K tome, obrada klasika "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" Shangri-Lasa bit će Morriseyjev jedini nastup, jedina "njegova" pjesma koja se čuje "uživo".

Energična, ponajbolja sekvencija filma prijeti načiniti "England Is Mine" antikulminativnim, no srećom Gill ubacuje lijepu scenu kad Morrisey s "walkmanom" na ušima ušeta u klub i biva svom glazbenom filmu, a najbolje ostavlja za sami kraj u vidu "teasera" za Smithse. Marr prebire po gitari, a Morrisey tipka na pisaćoj mašini ono što će postati glazba i stihovi skorašnjeg benda. How Soon Is Now?

"Monoton život trebalo bi izbjeći", slušamo u uvodu filma "Morrisey: Engleska pripada meni" o osnivaču i pjevaču grupe The Smiths, autoru hitova poput "How Soon Is Now?", "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out"... Za Oscara nominirani redatelj Mark Gill (kratkiš "The Voorman Problem") poslušao je taj savjet u svom dugometražnom prvijencu.

"England Is Mine" izbjegava monotoniju, ako već ne uspijeva posve izbjeći tipologiju biografske drame. Pozicioniran po dometima negdje između filma o Freddieju Mercuryju ("Bohemian Rhapsody") i Eltonu Johnu ("Rocketman"), "Engleska pripada meni" se, svakako, bori protiv dosade i ukalupljivanja.

Baš kao što se u formativnim post-tinejdžerskim godinama borio introvertirani i jedinstveni Steven Patrick Morrisey (dojmljivi Jack Lowden, "Dunkirk") radeći činovnički posao i sanjajući o glazbenoj karijeri. "Zašto ne možeš biti poput drugih", pitaju Morriseyja u jednoj sceni.

Formativne Morriseyjeve godine forte su filma "Engleska pripada meni", ambijentiranog u Manchester na izmaku sedamdesetih i stvorenog za vjerne fanove utjecajnog britanskog benda osamdesetih koji znaju da naslov "England Is Mine" potječe iz pjesme "Still Ill" s prvog albuma "The Smiths" i spremno nastavljaju stihove "... it owes me a living, But ask me why, and I'll spit in your eye...", ali žele čuti kako je njihov ikonički heroj postao glas jedne "alter rock" generacije.

Istina, priča završava baš kad zapravo počinje, pojavom gitarista Johnnyja Marra (Laurie Kynaston), ali do nekog idućeg "biopica", fokusiranog isključivo na Smithse, bolje da se "England is Mine" bavi mladim nego starim Morriseyjem s obzirom na njegove verbalne ispade na temu Brexita i izbjeglica.

Iako, taj stari Morrisey kao da se nazire u filmu s unutarnjim razmišljanjima tipa "Da u Engleskoj dođe do revolucije, formirali bi red za giljotinu" i kritiziranjem "autodestruktivnih poriva" Clashovca Joea Strummera. Unutarnja razmišljanja mladog Morriseyja formirala su ga kao glazbenika, zaključno sa svim što je čitao, slušao i pisao. John Keats, William Butler Yeats, Oscar Wilde, časopis "Melody Maker", knjiga "The Monsters Of The Moors", David Bowie, New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Roxy Music...

Svi su oni oblikovali slikovite stihove ili popistički melodiozan, uhu-ugodan zvuk Smithsa, mjerodavan za buduće "alter" i "indie" rock bendove, Morriseyjev pogled na (glazbeni) svijet koji je izražavao pišući kritike onoga što je čuo na koncertima, a slušao je sve, čak i predgrupe, bio na svirkama Patti Smith i Sex Pistolsa.

Pomogla je i njegova platonska prijateljica Linder Sterling (odlična Jessica Brown Findlay). "Nisi Jane Austen, opusti pisanje, više točaka, sa zarezom", savjetovala je ona mladiću koji "govori rabeći komplicirane riječi". "Piši, pjevaj", bodrila ga je Linder, kao i njegova majka Elizabeth (Simone Kirby).

Na Morriseyjevu opasku "svijet nije zamišljen za ljude poput mene", majka je predložila "onda stvori svoj svijet" i kazala mu "jedina si verzija sebe". "Engleska pripada meni" nije jedina verzija biografskog filma i Morrisey bi sam vjerojatno rekao "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", ali Gill se trudi obogatiti žanr tako što ga je preselio u dramu o odrastanju s protagonistom koji traži svoje (glazbeno) mjesto na svijetu.

Gill je čak malčice i subverzivan: Morrisey će zapjevati tek u 45. minuti filma, dakle oko polovice. Događa se to kad se, na nagovor Linder, napokon popne na pozornicu s kratkotrajnom grupom The Nosebleeds gdje je svirao i Billy Duffy (Adam Lawrence, "Peaky Blinders"), gitarist kultne hard rock skupine The Cult koji ga je upoznao s Marrom. K tome, obrada klasika "Give Him a Great Big Kiss" Shangri-Lasa bit će Morriseyjev jedini nastup, jedina "njegova" pjesma koja se čuje "uživo".

Energična, ponajbolja sekvencija filma prijeti načiniti "England Is Mine" antikulminativnim, no srećom Gill ubacuje lijepu scenu kad Morrisey s "walkmanom" na ušima ušeta u klub i biva svom glazbenom filmu, a najbolje ostavlja za sami kraj u vidu "teasera" za Smithse. Marr prebire po gitari, a Morrisey tipka na pisaćoj mašini ono što će postati glazba i stihovi skorašnjeg benda. How Soon Is Now?
