"Pametniji su od nas." – "Monsters Of Man" (2020.)

Ugroza od robota i umjetne inteligencije višestruko je eminentna u filmu "Monsters Of Man", još jednom zamašnjaku SF akcijskih (horor) trilera osamdesetih uz "Outside The Wire". Otvarajući se natpisom kako "preko 200 kompanija razvija robote", "Monsters Of Man" ili "Čudovišta ljudi" upozorava na mogući ustanak strojeva u bliskoj budućnosti, terminatora testiranih za ratovanje.

Kompanija za robotiku i proizvođač oružja udružuje se s korumpiranim CIA-ovcem Majorom (vječiti negativac Neal McDonough) za "ultimate field test" prototipnih robota, ubačenih padobranima na granicu Vijetnama i Kambodže kako bi posmicali lokalne dilere.

Spletom nesretnih okolnosti, tamo se zatekne tim mladih američkih liječnika, nađe u unakrsnoj vatri i postane meta robota koji se otimaju kontroli i ubijaju nevine lokalne seljane, a može im pomoći samo odmetnuti bivši specijalac Mason (Brett Tutor).

Potentna premisa djelo je debitantskog australskog scenarista i redatelja Marka Toie. "Monsters Of Man" je njegov projekt iz strasti. Prethodno poznat samo po reklamama, Toia je uložio 1.6 milijuna dolara iz vlastitog džepa, a ostatak niskog budžeta skrpao preko Indiegogo kampanje, kao primjerice autori hrvatskog "Blade Runnera" ("Slice Of Life") Luka Hrgović i Dino Julius.

S obzirom na frapantno nizak proračun i redateljev manjak iskustva, "Monsters Of Man" je ispao vizualno vrlo neloš, ništa lošiji od evidentno skupljeg i profesionalnijeg "Outside The Wire", zbog čega prema njemu treba biti blagonakloniji unatoč manjkavostima. Najveća mana filma je gluma i karakterizacija likova, dijalozi također.

Ne računajući uvijek istog, ali poslovično uvjerljivog McDonougha, angažirani su mahom anonimci ili debitanti koji većinski glume poluamaterski i ne uspijevaju likove načiniti pojavno/verbalno zanimljivima i udahnuti im emociju (izuzetak je klinac Ly Ty), a Toia im posvećuje prvu polovicu priče.

Isto tako, "Monsters Of Man" je predug i postaje repetitivan tijekom 132-minutnog trajanja. Shvaćamo da je Maia štitio čedo od montažnih škara i da je htio sačuvati što više toga što je jedva uspio snimiti, ali nije baš morao ostaviti svaki snimljeni kadar, tj. trebao je skratiti minutažu za barem pola sata da "Monsters Of Man" bude prohodniji i da spomenute mane dođu manje do izražaja.

Jer, stvar je imala većeg potencijala, a roboti su kao likovi intrigantniji od ljudi, tvoraca strojeva za ubijanje/novog "oružja rata" i pravih monstruma filma, posebice jedan od njih, tzv. broj 4, kad postane samosvjestan, počne učiti nove vještine, donositi svoje odluke i preispitivati život kao takav.

Uvjerljivosti robota doprinosi redateljev "old school" pristup u spajanju praktičnog i računalnog pa ih u pojedinim scenama glume ljudi u odijelu, umjesto da su isključivo djelo (inače sasvim solidne) kompjuterske "motion capture" animacije. Dizajnirani kao zločesta, hororska inačica Chappieja iz istoimena SF-a Neilla Blomkampa, roboti se ne libe gaziti/kašiti glave/lubanje ljudi kao da su gledali terminatorske endoskelete u akciji iz uvoda "Terminatora 2".

Nije im stran ni masakr u stilu "Teksaškog masakra motornom pilom", samo bez titularnog oruđa: jedan robot će secirati stradalog lokalca prema knjizi iz biologije kako bi dobio dojam tko/što je čovjek naspram stroja i načas staviti njegovo lice na svoje kao Leatherface.

Nedvojbeno, Toia se nagledao žanrovskih filmova ("Generacija 1999"), a pokazao je da ima neke dobre zamisli, recimo u prizoru kad se robot prekriven bijelim padobranom podiže s tla izgledajući poput duha i nudeći drukčije čitanje kovanice "ghost in the machine".

U biti, Toia je zamislio ono što su mnogi zamišljali još od osamdesetih, ali nisu realizirali: kako bi bilo da se Terminator našao u "Predatoru" umjesto izvanzemaljca, lovio Amerikance po džungli i kažnjavao ih za Vijetnam. Taj film se nalazi negdje unutar "Monsters Of Man" koji je opskrbio robote "predatorskom" opcijom za "self destruct" i raznošenje svega oko sebe, kao i sposobnoću da odgovore čovjeku na pitanje "What a hell are you?" istim protupitanjem. Što si, kvragu, ti?

Uz malu pomoć fanova

Kao što to obično biva s Indiegogo kampanjama, fanovi koji su novčano pripomogli stvaranju "Monsters Of Man" dobili su na poklon digitalni primjerak filma, scenarij itd., a i njihovo ime se nalazi na odjavnoj špici.

"Pametniji su od nas." – "Monsters Of Man" (2020.)

Ugroza od robota i umjetne inteligencije višestruko je eminentna u filmu "Monsters Of Man", još jednom zamašnjaku SF akcijskih (horor) trilera osamdesetih uz "Outside The Wire". Otvarajući se natpisom kako "preko 200 kompanija razvija robote", "Monsters Of Man" ili "Čudovišta ljudi" upozorava na mogući ustanak strojeva u bliskoj budućnosti, terminatora testiranih za ratovanje.

Kompanija za robotiku i proizvođač oružja udružuje se s korumpiranim CIA-ovcem Majorom (vječiti negativac Neal McDonough) za "ultimate field test" prototipnih robota, ubačenih padobranima na granicu Vijetnama i Kambodže kako bi posmicali lokalne dilere.

Spletom nesretnih okolnosti, tamo se zatekne tim mladih američkih liječnika, nađe u unakrsnoj vatri i postane meta robota koji se otimaju kontroli i ubijaju nevine lokalne seljane, a može im pomoći samo odmetnuti bivši specijalac Mason (Brett Tutor).

Potentna premisa djelo je debitantskog australskog scenarista i redatelja Marka Toie. "Monsters Of Man" je njegov projekt iz strasti. Prethodno poznat samo po reklamama, Toia je uložio 1.6 milijuna dolara iz vlastitog džepa, a ostatak niskog budžeta skrpao preko Indiegogo kampanje, kao primjerice autori hrvatskog "Blade Runnera" ("Slice Of Life") Luka Hrgović i Dino Julius.

S obzirom na frapantno nizak proračun i redateljev manjak iskustva, "Monsters Of Man" je ispao vizualno vrlo neloš, ništa lošiji od evidentno skupljeg i profesionalnijeg "Outside The Wire", zbog čega prema njemu treba biti blagonakloniji unatoč manjkavostima. Najveća mana filma je gluma i karakterizacija likova, dijalozi također.

Ne računajući uvijek istog, ali poslovično uvjerljivog McDonougha, angažirani su mahom anonimci ili debitanti koji većinski glume poluamaterski i ne uspijevaju likove načiniti pojavno/verbalno zanimljivima i udahnuti im emociju (izuzetak je klinac Ly Ty), a Toia im posvećuje prvu polovicu priče.

Isto tako, "Monsters Of Man" je predug i postaje repetitivan tijekom 132-minutnog trajanja. Shvaćamo da je Maia štitio čedo od montažnih škara i da je htio sačuvati što više toga što je jedva uspio snimiti, ali nije baš morao ostaviti svaki snimljeni kadar, tj. trebao je skratiti minutažu za barem pola sata da "Monsters Of Man" bude prohodniji i da spomenute mane dođu manje do izražaja.

Jer, stvar je imala većeg potencijala, a roboti su kao likovi intrigantniji od ljudi, tvoraca strojeva za ubijanje/novog "oružja rata" i pravih monstruma filma, posebice jedan od njih, tzv. broj 4, kad postane samosvjestan, počne učiti nove vještine, donositi svoje odluke i preispitivati život kao takav.

Uvjerljivosti robota doprinosi redateljev "old school" pristup u spajanju praktičnog i računalnog pa ih u pojedinim scenama glume ljudi u odijelu, umjesto da su isključivo djelo (inače sasvim solidne) kompjuterske "motion capture" animacije. Dizajnirani kao zločesta, hororska inačica Chappieja iz istoimena SF-a Neilla Blomkampa, roboti se ne libe gaziti/kašiti glave/lubanje ljudi kao da su gledali terminatorske endoskelete u akciji iz uvoda "Terminatora 2".

Nije im stran ni masakr u stilu "Teksaškog masakra motornom pilom", samo bez titularnog oruđa: jedan robot će secirati stradalog lokalca prema knjizi iz biologije kako bi dobio dojam tko/što je čovjek naspram stroja i načas staviti njegovo lice na svoje kao Leatherface.

Nedvojbeno, Toia se nagledao žanrovskih filmova ("Generacija 1999"), a pokazao je da ima neke dobre zamisli, recimo u prizoru kad se robot prekriven bijelim padobranom podiže s tla izgledajući poput duha i nudeći drukčije čitanje kovanice "ghost in the machine".

U biti, Toia je zamislio ono što su mnogi zamišljali još od osamdesetih, ali nisu realizirali: kako bi bilo da se Terminator našao u "Predatoru" umjesto izvanzemaljca, lovio Amerikance po džungli i kažnjavao ih za Vijetnam. Taj film se nalazi negdje unutar "Monsters Of Man" koji je opskrbio robote "predatorskom" opcijom za "self destruct" i raznošenje svega oko sebe, kao i sposobnoću da odgovore čovjeku na pitanje "What a hell are you?" istim protupitanjem. Što si, kvragu, ti?

Uz malu pomoć fanova

Kao što to obično biva s Indiegogo kampanjama, fanovi koji su novčano pripomogli stvaranju "Monsters Of Man" dobili su na poklon digitalni primjerak filma, scenarij itd., a i njihovo ime se nalazi na odjavnoj špici.
