"Možemo promijeniti svijet." – "Maturalni ples" (2020.)

Šareni "feel good" mjuzikl nešto je što publici treba na samome kraju ove crne godine. Netflixov "Maturalni ples" ili "The Prom" odgovara opisu, ali posrijedi je film isključivo za ljubitelje mjuzikla i rukopisa Ryana Murphyja ("Glee"). Tko očekuje novi "Moulin Rouge", "La La Land" ili "Mamma Mia", dakle mjuzikl koji tipuje i na one koji ne vole nužno mjuzikle, nešto tako baš i neće dočekati.

Iako, Netflix i Murphy su nesumnjivo ciljali na fanove "Moulin Rougea" i posebice "Mamme Mie" kad su angažirali njihove zvijezde Nicole Kidman i Meryl Streep. "Maturalni ples" je nekakav pokušaj "Mamme Mie" na maturi. No, problem je što šira (hrvatska) publika nije upoznata s broadwayjskim mjuziklom Matthewa Sklara i Chada Beguelina iz 2018. po kojem je film nastao i nema pjesme u uhu kao ABBA-ine, a one i nisu tako zarazne da bi u uhu i ostale nakon odjavne špice.

Usporedbe radi, znatno su poznatije i zaraznije stvari iz neslavnog mjuzikla "Cats" s kojim "The Prom" dijeli raspjevanog Jamesa Cordena. Možda je Murphy namjerno i autoironično angažirao Cordena budući da voli provocirati. Premisa filma ide metafilmski Murphyju u korist u njegovom prvom filmsko-redateljskom zadatku nakon desetogodišnje pauze ("Jedi, moli, voli").

Kritika sahranjuje broadwayjske zvijezde Dee Dee Allen (neinspirirana Streep) i Barryja Glickmana (karikirani Corden) na račun njihova katastrofalnog mjuzikla "Eleanor Roosevelt". "Prva recenzija je tu, kaže da smo hit", uskliknu oni, ali ubrzo počinju pristizati iduće, jedna gora od druge.

Murphyju je poznat taj osjećaj s obzirom da je loše kritike pobrao na račun ovogodišnjih hit-serija "Hollywood" i "Ratched", također snimljenih u produkciji Netflixa. Kako bi spasili karijeru, Dee Dee i Barry, zajedno s kolegama (Kidman, Andrew Rannells), odlučuju postati "celebrity" aktivisti i povratiti povoljan "feedback" medija kao liberali s Broadwayja.

Njihov "cause célèbre" postaje slučaj gay maturantice Emme Nolan (zaigrana Jo Ellen Pellman) iz gradića Edgewater u Indiani. Emma je htjela na maturalnu večer poći s ženskom pratnjom, povesti djevojku (Ariana DeBose) što je izazvalo kontroverze unutar lokalne zajednice i rezultiralo ukidanjem plesne mature.

Dee Dee i ekipa, napose gay Barry, odluče stati u obranu Emmi, pokrenuti "We Are The World" za lezbijke i organizirati "homoseksualni maturalni ples". "Pomoći ćemo toj maloj lezbijki, sviđalo joj se to ili ne", zapjeva Barry iz kojeg pjevuši i "celebrity" aktivist Murphy, željan pozitivnog "feedbacka" nakon negativnih recenzija spomenutih serija.

Aktivizam je hvalevrijedan u "Maturalnom plesu" i treba na sav glas pjevati pjesme o "same sex" i inoj (ne)toleranciji jer "život nije isprobavanje haljina", ali Murphy je pretjerao u dobronamjernoj političkoj korektnosti, adresiranju važne LGBTQ teme i trendovskom isticanju "diverziteta".

Vrlo brzo ono malo početnog zavodljivog šarma mjuzikla nestaje u konstantnim i prenapadnim porukama koje postaju repetitivne u interpretaciji tankih likova i gube težinu u šljokičastom, kičastom šarenilu koreografije, scenografije i kostimografije u stotinu boja.

Istovremeno, teška tema je suprostavljena lakonotnim pjesmuljcima za brzi zaborav, generičkim poput samoga filma, koje čak i oskarovke Streep i Kidman pjevaju bez iskrenog osjećaja, samo kako bi stavile znak "viđeno" pored sudjelovanja u LGBTQ filmu i bile po "defaultu" nominirane za Zlatne globuse u kategoriji najbolja glumica u mjuziklu ili komediji.

Ovaj mjuzikl se kategorizira i kao komedija, premda baš i nije smiješan, no barem znade biti muzikalan u šačici solidnih pjesama i plesnih točaka, tipa "Just Breathe" i "It’s Not About Me" i "Zazz" kao posveta Bob Fosseovoj "All That Jazz" iz Oscarima nagrađena "Chicaga".

Žanrovi su u nesuglasju, glumci također. Streep i Corden uz najbolju volju ne funkcioniraju kao glazbeno-komični glumački duet: trostruka oskarovka je većinski na autopilotu, a TV voditelj glumi kao da s njom snima emisiju "Carpool Karaoke". "The Prom" nije "Cats", ali ni "Mamma Mia". Rijetko će ga tko zvati na bis.

Meryl Streep će glumiti predsjednicu Amerike u meteorskoj komediji "Don't Look Up" Adama McKaya krcatoj zvučnom glumakom ekipom (Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Evans, Cate Blanchett...).

"Možemo promijeniti svijet." – "Maturalni ples" (2020.)

Šareni "feel good" mjuzikl nešto je što publici treba na samome kraju ove crne godine. Netflixov "Maturalni ples" ili "The Prom" odgovara opisu, ali posrijedi je film isključivo za ljubitelje mjuzikla i rukopisa Ryana Murphyja ("Glee"). Tko očekuje novi "Moulin Rouge", "La La Land" ili "Mamma Mia", dakle mjuzikl koji tipuje i na one koji ne vole nužno mjuzikle, nešto tako baš i neće dočekati.

Iako, Netflix i Murphy su nesumnjivo ciljali na fanove "Moulin Rougea" i posebice "Mamme Mie" kad su angažirali njihove zvijezde Nicole Kidman i Meryl Streep. "Maturalni ples" je nekakav pokušaj "Mamme Mie" na maturi. No, problem je što šira (hrvatska) publika nije upoznata s broadwayjskim mjuziklom Matthewa Sklara i Chada Beguelina iz 2018. po kojem je film nastao i nema pjesme u uhu kao ABBA-ine, a one i nisu tako zarazne da bi u uhu i ostale nakon odjavne špice.

Usporedbe radi, znatno su poznatije i zaraznije stvari iz neslavnog mjuzikla "Cats" s kojim "The Prom" dijeli raspjevanog Jamesa Cordena. Možda je Murphy namjerno i autoironično angažirao Cordena budući da voli provocirati. Premisa filma ide metafilmski Murphyju u korist u njegovom prvom filmsko-redateljskom zadatku nakon desetogodišnje pauze ("Jedi, moli, voli").

Kritika sahranjuje broadwayjske zvijezde Dee Dee Allen (neinspirirana Streep) i Barryja Glickmana (karikirani Corden) na račun njihova katastrofalnog mjuzikla "Eleanor Roosevelt". "Prva recenzija je tu, kaže da smo hit", uskliknu oni, ali ubrzo počinju pristizati iduće, jedna gora od druge.

Murphyju je poznat taj osjećaj s obzirom da je loše kritike pobrao na račun ovogodišnjih hit-serija "Hollywood" i "Ratched", također snimljenih u produkciji Netflixa. Kako bi spasili karijeru, Dee Dee i Barry, zajedno s kolegama (Kidman, Andrew Rannells), odlučuju postati "celebrity" aktivisti i povratiti povoljan "feedback" medija kao liberali s Broadwayja.

Njihov "cause célèbre" postaje slučaj gay maturantice Emme Nolan (zaigrana Jo Ellen Pellman) iz gradića Edgewater u Indiani. Emma je htjela na maturalnu večer poći s ženskom pratnjom, povesti djevojku (Ariana DeBose) što je izazvalo kontroverze unutar lokalne zajednice i rezultiralo ukidanjem plesne mature.

Dee Dee i ekipa, napose gay Barry, odluče stati u obranu Emmi, pokrenuti "We Are The World" za lezbijke i organizirati "homoseksualni maturalni ples". "Pomoći ćemo toj maloj lezbijki, sviđalo joj se to ili ne", zapjeva Barry iz kojeg pjevuši i "celebrity" aktivist Murphy, željan pozitivnog "feedbacka" nakon negativnih recenzija spomenutih serija.

Aktivizam je hvalevrijedan u "Maturalnom plesu" i treba na sav glas pjevati pjesme o "same sex" i inoj (ne)toleranciji jer "život nije isprobavanje haljina", ali Murphy je pretjerao u dobronamjernoj političkoj korektnosti, adresiranju važne LGBTQ teme i trendovskom isticanju "diverziteta".

Vrlo brzo ono malo početnog zavodljivog šarma mjuzikla nestaje u konstantnim i prenapadnim porukama koje postaju repetitivne u interpretaciji tankih likova i gube težinu u šljokičastom, kičastom šarenilu koreografije, scenografije i kostimografije u stotinu boja.

Istovremeno, teška tema je suprostavljena lakonotnim pjesmuljcima za brzi zaborav, generičkim poput samoga filma, koje čak i oskarovke Streep i Kidman pjevaju bez iskrenog osjećaja, samo kako bi stavile znak "viđeno" pored sudjelovanja u LGBTQ filmu i bile po "defaultu" nominirane za Zlatne globuse u kategoriji najbolja glumica u mjuziklu ili komediji.

Ovaj mjuzikl se kategorizira i kao komedija, premda baš i nije smiješan, no barem znade biti muzikalan u šačici solidnih pjesama i plesnih točaka, tipa "Just Breathe" i "It’s Not About Me" i "Zazz" kao posveta Bob Fosseovoj "All That Jazz" iz Oscarima nagrađena "Chicaga".

Žanrovi su u nesuglasju, glumci također. Streep i Corden uz najbolju volju ne funkcioniraju kao glazbeno-komični glumački duet: trostruka oskarovka je većinski na autopilotu, a TV voditelj glumi kao da s njom snima emisiju "Carpool Karaoke". "The Prom" nije "Cats", ali ni "Mamma Mia". Rijetko će ga tko zvati na bis.

Meryl Streep će glumiti predsjednicu Amerike u meteorskoj komediji "Don't Look Up" Adama McKaya krcatoj zvučnom glumakom ekipom (Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Evans, Cate Blanchett...).
