Građani kanadskog grada Calgaryja odbacili su na referendumu kandidaturu za domaćinstvo Zimskih olimpijskih igara 2026. godine.

Više od 300,000 stanovnika Calgaryja, koji je organizirao ZOI 1988. godine, izašlo je na referendum, a njih 56 posto glasovalo je protiv kandidature svoga grada.

Iako referendum nije obvezujući, očekuje se kako će 15-člano gradsko vijeće na svojoj sjednici sljedećeg ponedjeljka poštivati odluku građana i odlučiti o povlačenju kandidature.

Nakon Calgaryjeva odbacivanja kandidature, Međunarodnom olimpijskom odboru (MOO) preostat će samo dvije kandidature za ZOI 2026., one švedskog Stockholma i talijanskih Milana i Cortine D'Ampezzo.

Zbog visokih troškova organizacije još ranije su od kandidature odustali švicarski Sion, japanski Sapporo i austrijski Graz dok je MOO eliminirao turski Erzurum.

Domaćin ZOI 2026. bit će određen u lipnju 2019. 

Posljednje ZOI održane su u veljače ove godine u Pjongčangu u Južnoj Koreji, a domaćin sljedećih će 2022. biti glavni grad Kine Peking.

Građani kanadskog grada Calgaryja odbacili su na referendumu kandidaturu za domaćinstvo Zimskih olimpijskih igara 2026. godine.

Više od 300,000 stanovnika Calgaryja, koji je organizirao ZOI 1988. godine, izašlo je na referendum, a njih 56 posto glasovalo je protiv kandidature svoga grada.

Iako referendum nije obvezujući, očekuje se kako će 15-člano gradsko vijeće na svojoj sjednici sljedećeg ponedjeljka poštivati odluku građana i odlučiti o povlačenju kandidature.

Nakon Calgaryjeva odbacivanja kandidature, Međunarodnom olimpijskom odboru (MOO) preostat će samo dvije kandidature za ZOI 2026., one švedskog Stockholma i talijanskih Milana i Cortine D'Ampezzo.

Zbog visokih troškova organizacije još ranije su od kandidature odustali švicarski Sion, japanski Sapporo i austrijski Graz dok je MOO eliminirao turski Erzurum.

Domaćin ZOI 2026. bit će određen u lipnju 2019. 

Posljednje ZOI održane su u veljače ove godine u Pjongčangu u Južnoj Koreji, a domaćin sljedećih će 2022. biti glavni grad Kine Peking.
