Tijekom kratkotrajnog zatišja, nakon najrazornijih agresorskih napada na Dubrovnik od 8. do 13. studenoga 1991., iz gruške luke koja je još uvijek gorjela, u 13:45 sati 14. studenoga 1991. isplovio je brod „Slavija“ s oko 4000 žena, djece, starijih i nemoćnih osoba, te oko 200 bolesnika i ranjenika. Pridružili su im se i pripadnici promatračke misije EZ koji su, u strahu za svoje živote, odlučili privremeno napustiti Grad, stoji u objavi na facebook stranici Muzeja Domovinskog rata Dubrovnik.
Brod, registriran za prijevoz najviše 1000 putnika, morao je i pored jakog nevremena, praćenog orkanskim jugom, isploviti prema crnogorskoj luci Zelenika, gdje je prošao uobičajenu agresorsku kontrolu. Na njemu su bili i pripadnici dubrovačkog pregovaračkog tima, kojima su i ovom prigodom, od strane JNA, izneseni ultimativni zahtjevi za predaju Grada. Sutradan ujutro, „Slaviji“ je dopušten nastavak plovidbe prema Rijeci. Istodobna ratna djelovanja na području srednje Dalmacije, napad JRM na Split i bojevi u Splitskom i Korčulanskom kanalu (15. i 16. studenog 1991.) u kojima je Hrvatska ratna mornarica porazila znatno nadmoćnijeg agresora, onemogućila su planirano pristajanje i iskrcaj dijela putnika u splitskoj luci. Budući da je i Rijeka bila opterećena sa preko 40 000 izbjeglica i prognanika, za konačnu luku iskrcaja određena je Pula.
U subotu, u 00:35 sati 16.studenog, „Slaviji“ je priređen veličanstven doček, a ispaćeni putnici odmah zbrinut. Za vrijeme ove dramatične i teške plovidbe jedan putnik je umro, a rodilo se dvoje djece.
Nažalost, u potpunosti su se ostvarile slutnje promatrača Vittoria Ghiolia koji je prilikom iskrcaja u Puli kazao da je stekao dojam da su na dubrovačkom području “neki ljudi iz JNA odlučili ići do kraja“.
Praćeni novim stradanjima, žestoki napadi agresora na Grad nastavili su se zauzimanjem Mokošice već 21. studenoga, a kulminirali bezumnim napadom 6. prosinca 1991. godine. Stoga je, prema podatcima Štaba Civilne zaštite, do kraja studenoga iz Dubrovnika evakuirano 19.000, a tijekom prosinca, uključujući i brodove pod zastavom UNICEF-a, novih 3.149 osoba te je do konca godine broj prognanih i izbjeglih osoba s dubrovačkog područja narastao na više od trideset i dvije tisuće.

Tijekom kratkotrajnog zatišja, nakon najrazornijih agresorskih napada na Dubrovnik od 8. do 13. studenoga 1991., iz gruške luke koja je još uvijek gorjela, u 13:45 sati 14. studenoga 1991. isplovio je brod „Slavija“ s oko 4000 žena, djece, starijih i nemoćnih osoba, te oko 200 bolesnika i ranjenika. Pridružili su im se i pripadnici promatračke misije EZ koji su, u strahu za svoje živote, odlučili privremeno napustiti Grad, stoji u objavi na facebook stranici Muzeja Domovinskog rata Dubrovnik.
Brod, registriran za prijevoz najviše 1000 putnika, morao je i pored jakog nevremena, praćenog orkanskim jugom, isploviti prema crnogorskoj luci Zelenika, gdje je prošao uobičajenu agresorsku kontrolu. Na njemu su bili i pripadnici dubrovačkog pregovaračkog tima, kojima su i ovom prigodom, od strane JNA, izneseni ultimativni zahtjevi za predaju Grada. Sutradan ujutro, „Slaviji“ je dopušten nastavak plovidbe prema Rijeci. Istodobna ratna djelovanja na području srednje Dalmacije, napad JRM na Split i bojevi u Splitskom i Korčulanskom kanalu (15. i 16. studenog 1991.) u kojima je Hrvatska ratna mornarica porazila znatno nadmoćnijeg agresora, onemogućila su planirano pristajanje i iskrcaj dijela putnika u splitskoj luci. Budući da je i Rijeka bila opterećena sa preko 40 000 izbjeglica i prognanika, za konačnu luku iskrcaja određena je Pula.
U subotu, u 00:35 sati 16.studenog, „Slaviji“ je priređen veličanstven doček, a ispaćeni putnici odmah zbrinut. Za vrijeme ove dramatične i teške plovidbe jedan putnik je umro, a rodilo se dvoje djece.
Nažalost, u potpunosti su se ostvarile slutnje promatrača Vittoria Ghiolia koji je prilikom iskrcaja u Puli kazao da je stekao dojam da su na dubrovačkom području “neki ljudi iz JNA odlučili ići do kraja“.
Praćeni novim stradanjima, žestoki napadi agresora na Grad nastavili su se zauzimanjem Mokošice već 21. studenoga, a kulminirali bezumnim napadom 6. prosinca 1991. godine. Stoga je, prema podatcima Štaba Civilne zaštite, do kraja studenoga iz Dubrovnika evakuirano 19.000, a tijekom prosinca, uključujući i brodove pod zastavom UNICEF-a, novih 3.149 osoba te je do konca godine broj prognanih i izbjeglih osoba s dubrovačkog područja narastao na više od trideset i dvije tisuće.
