Jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za dijabetes u svijetu, mogao bi biti povezan s težim urođenim manama kod potomaka muških pacijenata koji su ga uzimali prije začeća, pokazalo je novo istraživanje danskih znanstvenika. 
Metformin, jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za liječenje dijabetesa tipa 2, bio je povezan s 1,4 puta većim rizikom od razvoja urođenih mana u dječaka čiji su očevi uzimali lijek u usporedbi s onima čiji ga očevi nisu uzimali kao terapiju, ustanovili su znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Južne Danske i američkog Sveučilišta Stanford.
U objema skupinama majke u anamnezi nisu imale ni dijabetes ni hipertenziju.
No autori studije, kao i neovisni stručnjaci, ukazuju na nekoliko ključnih ograničenja studije čiji su rezultati objavljeni u stručnome časopisu Annals of Internal Medicine.
Naime, istraživači nisu znali jesu li očevi uzimali lijekove onako kako im je propisano ili su s manje pažnje držali dijabetes pod kontrolom, što bi također moglo biti povezano s većim rizikom od urođenih mana.
Studija je pokazala i da rizik za bebe čiji su očevi umjesto metformina uzimali inzulin nije povećan.
Channa Jayasena, voditelj andrologije na londonskome Imperial Collegeu, koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju, rezultate je ocijenio "izazovnim i vrijednim proučavanja, ali i nedovoljno uvjerljivima".
“Muškarce s dijabetesom ni u kojem slučaju ne treba odvraćati od uzimanja metformina, no rezultate bi trebalo detaljnije proučiti”, kazao je.
Metformin, dostupan i kao generički lijek, prva je linija liječenja dijabetesa tipa 2, bolesti koja poprima razmjere epidemije diljem svijeta.

Obično se pacijentima propisuje kada prehrana i tjelesna aktivnost više nisu dovoljni za uspješno kontroliranje razine šećera u krvi i najčešće prije propisivanja skupljih brendiranih lijekova za dijabetes.
Djeluje tako da poboljšava način na koji tijelo podnosi inzulin. U svijetu trenutačno ovaj lijek troši oko 120 milijuna ljudi.
U sklopu studije u koju je bilo uključeno  1.116,779 rođenih u Danskoj u razdoblju od 1997. do 2016. znanstvenici su otkrili da je 5,2 posto novorođenih beba čiji su muški roditelji uzimali metformin, imalo urođene mane. Među njima su i mane na genitalnim organima u dječaka.
Među ostalim stanovništvom ta je stopa iznosila 3,3 posto.
Znanstvenici su smatrali da su bebe bile izložene djelovanju lijeka protiv dijabetesa, uključujući metformin ili inzulin, ako je otac dobio barem jedan recept za lijek u tromjesečnom razdoblju prije začeća, kada su se razvijali spermatozoidi.
Stručnjaci se slažu da je potrebno provesti dodatna istraživanja. Neki su predložili i da muškarci koji uzimaju metformin, razmisle o uzimanju nekog drugog načina liječenja u razdoblju u kojemu njihova partnerica pokušava zatrudnjeti.
"Razmišljaju li pacijenti o alternativnom lijeku, svakako bi trebali razgovarati sa svojim liječnikom", kazao je Reutersu Maarten Wensink, profesor javnog zdravlja na Sveučilištu Južne Danske i autor studije, dodavši da je jedan od najboljih oblika liječenja dijabetesa tipa 2 i dalje zdrav način života koji uključuje promjene u prehrani i gubitak težine.
"Ovo bi mogao biti dodatni razlog za to da se na zdravlje očeva usmjeri više prioriteta", smatra Wensink.

Jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za dijabetes u svijetu, mogao bi biti povezan s težim urođenim manama kod potomaka muških pacijenata koji su ga uzimali prije začeća, pokazalo je novo istraživanje danskih znanstvenika. 
Metformin, jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za liječenje dijabetesa tipa 2, bio je povezan s 1,4 puta većim rizikom od razvoja urođenih mana u dječaka čiji su očevi uzimali lijek u usporedbi s onima čiji ga očevi nisu uzimali kao terapiju, ustanovili su znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Južne Danske i američkog Sveučilišta Stanford.
U objema skupinama majke u anamnezi nisu imale ni dijabetes ni hipertenziju.
No autori studije, kao i neovisni stručnjaci, ukazuju na nekoliko ključnih ograničenja studije čiji su rezultati objavljeni u stručnome časopisu Annals of Internal Medicine.
Naime, istraživači nisu znali jesu li očevi uzimali lijekove onako kako im je propisano ili su s manje pažnje držali dijabetes pod kontrolom, što bi također moglo biti povezano s većim rizikom od urođenih mana.
Studija je pokazala i da rizik za bebe čiji su očevi umjesto metformina uzimali inzulin nije povećan.
Channa Jayasena, voditelj andrologije na londonskome Imperial Collegeu, koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju, rezultate je ocijenio "izazovnim i vrijednim proučavanja, ali i nedovoljno uvjerljivima".
“Muškarce s dijabetesom ni u kojem slučaju ne treba odvraćati od uzimanja metformina, no rezultate bi trebalo detaljnije proučiti”, kazao je.
Metformin, dostupan i kao generički lijek, prva je linija liječenja dijabetesa tipa 2, bolesti koja poprima razmjere epidemije diljem svijeta.

Obično se pacijentima propisuje kada prehrana i tjelesna aktivnost više nisu dovoljni za uspješno kontroliranje razine šećera u krvi i najčešće prije propisivanja skupljih brendiranih lijekova za dijabetes.
Djeluje tako da poboljšava način na koji tijelo podnosi inzulin. U svijetu trenutačno ovaj lijek troši oko 120 milijuna ljudi.
U sklopu studije u koju je bilo uključeno  1.116,779 rođenih u Danskoj u razdoblju od 1997. do 2016. znanstvenici su otkrili da je 5,2 posto novorođenih beba čiji su muški roditelji uzimali metformin, imalo urođene mane. Među njima su i mane na genitalnim organima u dječaka.
Među ostalim stanovništvom ta je stopa iznosila 3,3 posto.
Znanstvenici su smatrali da su bebe bile izložene djelovanju lijeka protiv dijabetesa, uključujući metformin ili inzulin, ako je otac dobio barem jedan recept za lijek u tromjesečnom razdoblju prije začeća, kada su se razvijali spermatozoidi.
Stručnjaci se slažu da je potrebno provesti dodatna istraživanja. Neki su predložili i da muškarci koji uzimaju metformin, razmisle o uzimanju nekog drugog načina liječenja u razdoblju u kojemu njihova partnerica pokušava zatrudnjeti.
"Razmišljaju li pacijenti o alternativnom lijeku, svakako bi trebali razgovarati sa svojim liječnikom", kazao je Reutersu Maarten Wensink, profesor javnog zdravlja na Sveučilištu Južne Danske i autor studije, dodavši da je jedan od najboljih oblika liječenja dijabetesa tipa 2 i dalje zdrav način života koji uključuje promjene u prehrani i gubitak težine.
"Ovo bi mogao biti dodatni razlog za to da se na zdravlje očeva usmjeri više prioriteta", smatra Wensink.

Lijek protiv dijabetesa tipa 2 povezan s urođenim manama u novorođenčadi?

Jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za dijabetes u svijetu, mogao bi biti povezan s težim urođenim manama kod potomaka muških pacijenata koji su ga uzimali prije začeća, pokazalo je novo istraživanje danskih znanstvenika. 
Metformin, jedan od najčešće propisivanih lijekova za liječenje dijabetesa tipa 2, bio je povezan s 1,4 puta većim rizikom od razvoja urođenih mana u dječaka čiji su očevi uzimali lijek u usporedbi s onima čiji ga očevi nisu uzimali kao terapiju, ustanovili su znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Južne Danske i američkog Sveučilišta Stanford.
U objema skupinama majke u anamnezi nisu imale ni dijabetes ni hipertenziju.
No autori studije, kao i neovisni stručnjaci, ukazuju na nekoliko ključnih ograničenja studije čiji su rezultati objavljeni u stručnome časopisu Annals of Internal Medicine.
Naime, istraživači nisu znali jesu li očevi uzimali lijekove onako kako im je propisano ili su s manje pažnje držali dijabetes pod kontrolom, što bi također moglo biti povezano s većim rizikom od urođenih mana.
Studija je pokazala i da rizik za bebe čiji su očevi umjesto metformina uzimali inzulin nije povećan.
Channa Jayasena, voditelj andrologije na londonskome Imperial Collegeu, koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju, rezultate je ocijenio "izazovnim i vrijednim proučavanja, ali i nedovoljno uvjerljivima".
