Nekoliko sati prije početka pripremne utakmice između Zadra i američke momčadi Brigham Young University igrači te vodstvo kluba iz Prova u državi Utah poklonili su se pred spomenikom Krešimiru Ćosiću!
Nikad nisu zaboravili trag koji je Krešo, velikan hrvatske i svjetske košarke, ostavio na njihovom Sveučilištu (1969.-1973.) zapravo, čovjeku koji ih je uveo u svijet ovoga sporta. Jer kao Europljanin koji je iza sebe imao tri klupska naslova prvaka bivše nam države sa Zadrom, srebro na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Montevideu (1967.) jednako i na Olimpijskim igrama u Mexico Cityju (1968.), odlučio se za odlazak u postojbinu košarke.
‘Promijenio je košarku’
U Provu su i danas ponosni na njegovo svjetsko zlato u Ljubljani (1970.), stoga su odlučili po drugi put posjetiti njegov Zadar. U posjet Krešinom bivšem klubu 1995. išli su košarkaši Zadra i bili izvrsno primljeni. Jednako srdačno i njih se dočekalo najprije 1979. godine u Jazinama i ove srijede u Krešinom domu.
- Dovoljno je biti ovdje kako biste shvatili što Krešimir znači Zadru, što znači Hrvatskoj, ali i što je značio čitavoj ovoj regiji, ne samo kao junak na terenu, već prije svega kao ljudsko biće, čovjek i vođa. Naše igrače učimo kako biti izvrstan košarkaš kao Krešo, koji je uz sportsku crtu ostavio veliki utisak na naše sveučilište te mi je posebno bitno da moji igrači saznaju što je moguće više o njemu. Jer, Krešo je promijenio košarku na BYU-u, promijenio je čitavu našu zajednicu, a promijenio je čitav košarkaški svijet, jer je bio jedan od prvih međunarodnih igrača koji je došao u SAD. Danas smo svjedoci kako svaka sveučilišna i NBA momčad ima gotovo isti broj stranih igrača i onih rođenih u SAD-u - kazivao je Mark Pope, trener BYU, dok je razgledavao dvoranu “Krešimir Ćosić” u ŠC “Višnjik”.
Europljani nadiru...
U delegaciji iz Prova nalazio se i Ryan Smith, vlasnik NBA momčadi Utah Jazz čiji je otac radio na Sveučilištu Birgam Young te mu je pričao o Ćosićevom utjecaju na razvoj košarkaškog programu. Smith je istaknuo koliko Europljani imaju utjecaja u NBA momčadi, pa je izdvojio...
- Samo u momčadi Utah Jazz imamo Laurija Markkanena, Simonea Fontecchija i Luku Šamanića. A sve je to počelo na na BYU-u i s Krešom, njegov utjecaj je moćan i danas nakon pola stoljeća – istaknuo je Smith, oduševljen što je Ćosićevom gradu!
Njegov dres u dvorani u Provu, umirovljen je 4. ožujka 2006. uz to su ponosni što imaju posebnu izreku kojom svoje igrače nastoje usmjeriti na Krešin put uspjeha. Onda su kao sljedbenici Crkve Isusa Krista svetaca posljednjih dana, parafrazirali Isusovu misao: “Mnogo je zvanih, malo izabranih” pa ističu:

Nekoliko sati prije početka pripremne utakmice između Zadra i američke momčadi Brigham Young University igrači te vodstvo kluba iz Prova u državi Utah poklonili su se pred spomenikom Krešimiru Ćosiću!
Nikad nisu zaboravili trag koji je Krešo, velikan hrvatske i svjetske košarke, ostavio na njihovom Sveučilištu (1969.-1973.) zapravo, čovjeku koji ih je uveo u svijet ovoga sporta. Jer kao Europljanin koji je iza sebe imao tri klupska naslova prvaka bivše nam države sa Zadrom, srebro na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Montevideu (1967.) jednako i na Olimpijskim igrama u Mexico Cityju (1968.), odlučio se za odlazak u postojbinu košarke.
‘Promijenio je košarku’
U Provu su i danas ponosni na njegovo svjetsko zlato u Ljubljani (1970.), stoga su odlučili po drugi put posjetiti njegov Zadar. U posjet Krešinom bivšem klubu 1995. išli su košarkaši Zadra i bili izvrsno primljeni. Jednako srdačno i njih se dočekalo najprije 1979. godine u Jazinama i ove srijede u Krešinom domu.
- Dovoljno je biti ovdje kako biste shvatili što Krešimir znači Zadru, što znači Hrvatskoj, ali i što je značio čitavoj ovoj regiji, ne samo kao junak na terenu, već prije svega kao ljudsko biće, čovjek i vođa. Naše igrače učimo kako biti izvrstan košarkaš kao Krešo, koji je uz sportsku crtu ostavio veliki utisak na naše sveučilište te mi je posebno bitno da moji igrači saznaju što je moguće više o njemu. Jer, Krešo je promijenio košarku na BYU-u, promijenio je čitavu našu zajednicu, a promijenio je čitav košarkaški svijet, jer je bio jedan od prvih međunarodnih igrača koji je došao u SAD. Danas smo svjedoci kako svaka sveučilišna i NBA momčad ima gotovo isti broj stranih igrača i onih rođenih u SAD-u - kazivao je Mark Pope, trener BYU, dok je razgledavao dvoranu “Krešimir Ćosić” u ŠC “Višnjik”.
Europljani nadiru...
U delegaciji iz Prova nalazio se i Ryan Smith, vlasnik NBA momčadi Utah Jazz čiji je otac radio na Sveučilištu Birgam Young te mu je pričao o Ćosićevom utjecaju na razvoj košarkaškog programu. Smith je istaknuo koliko Europljani imaju utjecaja u NBA momčadi, pa je izdvojio...
- Samo u momčadi Utah Jazz imamo Laurija Markkanena, Simonea Fontecchija i Luku Šamanića. A sve je to počelo na na BYU-u i s Krešom, njegov utjecaj je moćan i danas nakon pola stoljeća – istaknuo je Smith, oduševljen što je Ćosićevom gradu!
Njegov dres u dvorani u Provu, umirovljen je 4. ožujka 2006. uz to su ponosni što imaju posebnu izreku kojom svoje igrače nastoje usmjeriti na Krešin put uspjeha. Onda su kao sljedbenici Crkve Isusa Krista svetaca posljednjih dana, parafrazirali Isusovu misao: “Mnogo je zvanih, malo izabranih” pa ističu:
- Mnogo je zvanih, malo ih je Ćosić!
