Znanstvenici Instituta Ruđer Bošković (IRB) koji se bave proučavanjem i očuvanjem Rogozničkog jezera, ovih su dana primijetili promjenu u boji i mirisu jezera. Riječ je o pojavi anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu jezera i širenju toksičnog sumporovodika. Ovom prirodnom procesu pogoduju ekstremni vremenski uvjeti, poput naglog pada temperature atmosfere.

Rogozničko jezero ili u narodu poznato kao Zmajevo oko, prirodni je fenomen i jedinstven morski sustav na Jadranu i Mediteranu. Nedavno je zbog svojih fizičko-kemijskih i bioloških karakteristika uvršteno na mapu od stotinjak stalno stratificiranih, anoksičnih (bez kisika) i euksiničnih (slobodni toksični sulfid u vodenom stupcu) jezera na svijetu.

Glavna karakteristika jezera je sezonska stratifikacija u gornji oksični sloj, srednji sloj ili kemoklinu obojenu u ljubičasto, te pridneni anoksični sloj okarakteriziran potpunim mrakom (nema prisutnosti svjetla) i visokim koncentracijama toksičnog amonijaka i sulfida.

''Ovih dana jezero se ponovno naglo izmiješalo, zamutilo, širio se miris trulih jaja, te je jezero promijenilo uobičajenu transparentno zelenkasto plavu boju površine u neprozirnu zelenkasto sivu. U jezeru je tijekom miješanja vodenih slojeva došlo do hlapljenja i oksidacije sulfida te stvaranje polisulfida i elementarnog sumpora koji se uslijed visoke koncentracije i slabe topljivosti pojavljuje u koloidnoj formi, odnosno taloži u vodenom stupcu što je promijenilo transparentnost i boju jezera.

Proces miješanja i oksidacija sulfida potrošila je sav kisik u jezeru, te je jezero od nedjelje 27.09.2020. potpuno bez kisika. Takvo stanje izazvalo je pomor biljnog i životinjskog svijeta'', objašnjava dr. sc. Irena Ciglenečki-Jušić, voditeljica Laboratorija za fiziku mora i kemiju vodenih sustava IRB-a te projekta Hrvatske zaklade za znanost (HrZZ) 'Rogozničko morsko jezero kao model odziva ekosustava na promjene u okolišu (MARRES)' u sklopu kojeg se trenutno provode istraživanja jezera.

Ovakvo stanje pojave anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu zabilježeno je do sada tri puta, u rujnu 1997., listopadu 2011., te 2016. godine.

Jezero je predmet prirodno-znanstvenih istraživanja znanstvenika IRB-a u suradnji s kolegama s Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Centra za more i priobalje u Dubrovniku te splitskog Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo kao i timom međunarodnih kolega još od 1990. godine.

''Pojava anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu jezera je prirodni proces koji se javlja u nepravilnim vremenskim intervalima ovisno o vremenskim prilikama. Pogoduju mu ekstremni vremenski uvjeti, poput naglog pada temperature atmosfere koja naglo ohladi slani površinski sloj vode. Taj sloj vode tone i miješa se s vodom bogatom sulfidom. Unazad zadnjih desetak godina ovakve nagle promjene su sve učestalije'', navode znanstvenici.

''Oporavak jezera je dugotrajan, pogotovo što se tiče biologije, dok se kemijski procesi više manje vrate na staro u roku od nekih mjesec dana.

Prema dosadašnjim saznanjima za biološki oporavak potrebno je nekoliko godina, no tada dolazi do ponovnog miješanja i životni ciklus kreće ispočetka. Međutim, uvijek od nove početne točke, što je posebno interesantno za daljnja specifična istraživanja'', objašnjava dr. Ciglenečki-Jušić.

Jezero se smatra prirodnim laboratorijem za praćenje promjena u okolišu, a u novije vrijeme pokazalo se idealnim i za praćenje transporta i donosa pustinjske prašine iz Sahare na područje srednjeg Jadrana.

Znanstvenici Instituta Ruđer Bošković (IRB) koji se bave proučavanjem i očuvanjem Rogozničkog jezera, ovih su dana primijetili promjenu u boji i mirisu jezera. Riječ je o pojavi anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu jezera i širenju toksičnog sumporovodika. Ovom prirodnom procesu pogoduju ekstremni vremenski uvjeti, poput naglog pada temperature atmosfere.

Rogozničko jezero ili u narodu poznato kao Zmajevo oko, prirodni je fenomen i jedinstven morski sustav na Jadranu i Mediteranu. Nedavno je zbog svojih fizičko-kemijskih i bioloških karakteristika uvršteno na mapu od stotinjak stalno stratificiranih, anoksičnih (bez kisika) i euksiničnih (slobodni toksični sulfid u vodenom stupcu) jezera na svijetu.

Glavna karakteristika jezera je sezonska stratifikacija u gornji oksični sloj, srednji sloj ili kemoklinu obojenu u ljubičasto, te pridneni anoksični sloj okarakteriziran potpunim mrakom (nema prisutnosti svjetla) i visokim koncentracijama toksičnog amonijaka i sulfida.

''Ovih dana jezero se ponovno naglo izmiješalo, zamutilo, širio se miris trulih jaja, te je jezero promijenilo uobičajenu transparentno zelenkasto plavu boju površine u neprozirnu zelenkasto sivu. U jezeru je tijekom miješanja vodenih slojeva došlo do hlapljenja i oksidacije sulfida te stvaranje polisulfida i elementarnog sumpora koji se uslijed visoke koncentracije i slabe topljivosti pojavljuje u koloidnoj formi, odnosno taloži u vodenom stupcu što je promijenilo transparentnost i boju jezera.

Proces miješanja i oksidacija sulfida potrošila je sav kisik u jezeru, te je jezero od nedjelje 27.09.2020. potpuno bez kisika. Takvo stanje izazvalo je pomor biljnog i životinjskog svijeta'', objašnjava dr. sc. Irena Ciglenečki-Jušić, voditeljica Laboratorija za fiziku mora i kemiju vodenih sustava IRB-a te projekta Hrvatske zaklade za znanost (HrZZ) 'Rogozničko morsko jezero kao model odziva ekosustava na promjene u okolišu (MARRES)' u sklopu kojeg se trenutno provode istraživanja jezera.

Ovakvo stanje pojave anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu zabilježeno je do sada tri puta, u rujnu 1997., listopadu 2011., te 2016. godine.

Jezero je predmet prirodno-znanstvenih istraživanja znanstvenika IRB-a u suradnji s kolegama s Prirodoslovno-matematičkog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, Centra za more i priobalje u Dubrovniku te splitskog Instituta za oceanografiju i ribarstvo kao i timom međunarodnih kolega još od 1990. godine.

''Pojava anoksije u cijelom vodenom stupcu jezera je prirodni proces koji se javlja u nepravilnim vremenskim intervalima ovisno o vremenskim prilikama. Pogoduju mu ekstremni vremenski uvjeti, poput naglog pada temperature atmosfere koja naglo ohladi slani površinski sloj vode. Taj sloj vode tone i miješa se s vodom bogatom sulfidom. Unazad zadnjih desetak godina ovakve nagle promjene su sve učestalije'', navode znanstvenici.

''Oporavak jezera je dugotrajan, pogotovo što se tiče biologije, dok se kemijski procesi više manje vrate na staro u roku od nekih mjesec dana.

Prema dosadašnjim saznanjima za biološki oporavak potrebno je nekoliko godina, no tada dolazi do ponovnog miješanja i životni ciklus kreće ispočetka. Međutim, uvijek od nove početne točke, što je posebno interesantno za daljnja specifična istraživanja'', objašnjava dr. Ciglenečki-Jušić.

Jezero se smatra prirodnim laboratorijem za praćenje promjena u okolišu, a u novije vrijeme pokazalo se idealnim i za praćenje transporta i donosa pustinjske prašine iz Sahare na područje srednjeg Jadrana.
