Redovito docjepljivanje protiv koronavirusa bit će potrebno zbog novih varijanti koje ga čine zaraznijim i sposobnijim zaobići ljudski imunitet, rekla je čelnica britanskog instituta koji radi na sekvenciranju genoma virusa. 

Koronavirus je od pojavljivanja u Kini krajem 2019. do danas ubio više od 2,65 milijuna ljudi diljem svijeta. Virus mutira svaka dva tjedna, sporije nego gripa ili HIV, no dovoljno da su potrebne modifikacije cjepiva.

Sharon Peacock, čelnica britanskog instituta za genomiku koronavirusa COG-UK, koji je sekvencirao polovicu svih genoma tog virusa u svijetu, naglasila je da je zbog igre „mačke i miša” s virusom potrebna međunarodna suradnja, piše agencija Reuters.  

„Moramo prihvatiti da će nam uvijek biti potrebno docjepljivanje - imunitet protiv koronavirusa ne traje zauvijek”, rekla je Peacock na svom kampusu pored Cambridgea. 

„Već mijenjamo cjepiva kako bi se nosili s njegovom evolucijom – pojavljuju se varijante s kombinacijom veće zaraznosti i sposobnošću da dijelom zaobiđu odgovor našeg imuniteta”, dodala je. 

Peacock je uvjerena da će redovito docjepljivanje, kao ono protiv gripe, biti potrebno zbog budućih varijanti, no naglasila je da napredak u proizvodnji cjepiva omogućava da se ono razvija na vrijeme. 

COG-UK je uspostavila sama Peacock, profesorica na sveučilištu Cambridge, prije točno godinu dana, uz pomoć glavnog znanstvenog savjetnika britanske vlade Patricka Vallancea.

Institut sad predstavlja najveću svjetsku mrežu znanja o genetici tog virusa. Na lokacijama diljem Britanije sekvencirano je 346 tisuća genoma, dok je u svijetu to učinjeno na otprilike 709 tisuća genoma. 

Na institutu rade stotine znanstvenika, mnogi od njih na volonterskoj bazi. Procesuirano je oko 19 milijuna uzoraka PCR testova, a sekvencira se oko 30 tisuća genoma tjedno, više nego što je Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo ranije činilo u godinu dana. 

Tri varijante

Posebnu pozornost dobivaju tri varijante virusa – B.1.1.7, identificirana u Velikoj Britaniji, brazilska P1 i južnoafrički B.1.351. 
Peacock najviše brine južnoafrički soj jer je „zarazniji, ali i ima promjenu u mutaciji gena koju zovemo E484K”, a koja je povezana sa smanjenim imunitetom. 

Zbog više od 120 milijuna slučajeva koronavirusa u svijetu teško je pratiti sve varijante virusa, pa Peacock i njezin tim govore o „konstelacijama mutacija”. 

Ona upozorava kako i dalje treba biti ponizan pred tim virusom koji je donio toliko smrti i ekonomskih problema diljem svijeta. 

„Jedna od stvari koje me virus naučio je da mogu svakog dana biti potpuno u krivu – moram biti skromna u pogledu tog virusa o kojem još uvijek znamo jako malo”, kazala je i dodala da možda postoji varijanta koja još nije otkrivena. 

Peacock ne sumnja da će i u budućnosti biti pandemija. 

„Mislim da je neizbježno da će se pojaviti još neki virus kojim ćemo se baviti. Nadam se da smo iz ove globalne pandemije nešto naučili i da ćemo biti spremniji  detektirati ga i obuzdati”.

Redovito docjepljivanje protiv koronavirusa bit će potrebno zbog novih varijanti koje ga čine zaraznijim i sposobnijim zaobići ljudski imunitet, rekla je čelnica britanskog instituta koji radi na sekvenciranju genoma virusa. 

Koronavirus je od pojavljivanja u Kini krajem 2019. do danas ubio više od 2,65 milijuna ljudi diljem svijeta. Virus mutira svaka dva tjedna, sporije nego gripa ili HIV, no dovoljno da su potrebne modifikacije cjepiva.

Sharon Peacock, čelnica britanskog instituta za genomiku koronavirusa COG-UK, koji je sekvencirao polovicu svih genoma tog virusa u svijetu, naglasila je da je zbog igre „mačke i miša” s virusom potrebna međunarodna suradnja, piše agencija Reuters.  

„Moramo prihvatiti da će nam uvijek biti potrebno docjepljivanje - imunitet protiv koronavirusa ne traje zauvijek”, rekla je Peacock na svom kampusu pored Cambridgea. 

„Već mijenjamo cjepiva kako bi se nosili s njegovom evolucijom – pojavljuju se varijante s kombinacijom veće zaraznosti i sposobnošću da dijelom zaobiđu odgovor našeg imuniteta”, dodala je. 

Peacock je uvjerena da će redovito docjepljivanje, kao ono protiv gripe, biti potrebno zbog budućih varijanti, no naglasila je da napredak u proizvodnji cjepiva omogućava da se ono razvija na vrijeme. 

COG-UK je uspostavila sama Peacock, profesorica na sveučilištu Cambridge, prije točno godinu dana, uz pomoć glavnog znanstvenog savjetnika britanske vlade Patricka Vallancea.

Institut sad predstavlja najveću svjetsku mrežu znanja o genetici tog virusa. Na lokacijama diljem Britanije sekvencirano je 346 tisuća genoma, dok je u svijetu to učinjeno na otprilike 709 tisuća genoma. 

Na institutu rade stotine znanstvenika, mnogi od njih na volonterskoj bazi. Procesuirano je oko 19 milijuna uzoraka PCR testova, a sekvencira se oko 30 tisuća genoma tjedno, više nego što je Ujedinjeno Kraljevstvo ranije činilo u godinu dana. 

Tri varijante

Posebnu pozornost dobivaju tri varijante virusa – B.1.1.7, identificirana u Velikoj Britaniji, brazilska P1 i južnoafrički B.1.351. 
Peacock najviše brine južnoafrički soj jer je „zarazniji, ali i ima promjenu u mutaciji gena koju zovemo E484K”, a koja je povezana sa smanjenim imunitetom. 

Zbog više od 120 milijuna slučajeva koronavirusa u svijetu teško je pratiti sve varijante virusa, pa Peacock i njezin tim govore o „konstelacijama mutacija”. 

Ona upozorava kako i dalje treba biti ponizan pred tim virusom koji je donio toliko smrti i ekonomskih problema diljem svijeta. 

„Jedna od stvari koje me virus naučio je da mogu svakog dana biti potpuno u krivu – moram biti skromna u pogledu tog virusa o kojem još uvijek znamo jako malo”, kazala je i dodala da možda postoji varijanta koja još nije otkrivena. 

Peacock ne sumnja da će i u budućnosti biti pandemija. 

„Mislim da je neizbježno da će se pojaviti još neki virus kojim ćemo se baviti. Nadam se da smo iz ove globalne pandemije nešto naučili i da ćemo biti spremniji  detektirati ga i obuzdati”.

Redovito docjepljivanje protiv koronavirusa bit će potrebno zbog novih varijanti koje ga čine zaraznijim i sposobnijim zaobići ljudski imunitet, rekla je čelnica britanskog instituta koji radi na sekvenciranju genoma virusa. 

Koronavirus je od pojavljivanja u Kini krajem 2019. do danas ubio više od 2,65 milijuna ljudi diljem svijeta. Virus mutira svaka dva tjedna, sporije nego gripa ili HIV, no dovoljno da su potrebne modifikacije cjepiva.

Sharon Peacock, čelnica britanskog instituta za genomiku koronavirusa COG-UK, koji je sekvencirao polovicu svih genoma tog virusa u svijetu, naglasila je da je zbog igre „mačke i miša” s virusom potrebna međunarodna suradnja, piše agencija Reuters.  

„Moramo prihvatiti da će nam uvijek biti potrebno docjepljivanje - imunitet protiv koronavirusa ne traje zauvijek”, rekla je Peacock na svom kampusu pored Cambridgea. 

„Već mijenjamo cjepiva kako bi se nosili s njegovom evolucijom – pojavljuju se varijante s kombinacijom veće zaraznosti i sposobnošću da dijelom zaobiđu odgovor našeg imuniteta”, dodala je. 

Peacock je uvjerena da će redovito docjepljivanje, kao ono protiv gripe, biti potrebno zbog budućih varijanti, no naglasila je da napredak u proizvodnji cjepiva omogućava da se ono razvija na vrijeme. 

COG-UK je uspostavila sama Peacock, profesorica na sveučilištu Cambridge, prije točno godinu dana, uz pomoć glavnog znanstvenog savjetnika britanske vlade Patricka Vallancea.

Institut sad predstavlja najveću svjetsku mrežu znanja o genetici tog virusa. Na lokacijama diljem Britanije sekvencirano je 346 tisuća genoma, dok je u svijetu to učinjeno na otprilike 709 tisuća genoma.
