Zaljevsko područje San Francisca u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama uskoro će dobiti novi trajekt koji će umjesto fosilnih goriva koristiti vodikove gorivne članke, a dužnosnici se nadaju da će nagovijestiti promjenu u pomorstvu.
Prikladno nazvan "Sea Change" (morska promjena), 21 metara dugačak trajekt za 75 putnika će pristajati na nekoliko točaka uzduž obale zaljeva.
Izgrađen je u brodogradilištu All American Marine u gradu Bellinghamu u američkoj saveznoj državi Washington, a testirala ga je američka obalna straža u obližnjem tjesnacu Puget.
"Ovdje smo u vodi s energijom vodikovih gorivnih članaka i prvim komercijalnim plovilom koje ima taj sustav pogona", rekao je Pace Ralli, izvršni upravitelj tvrtke Switch Maritime, stojeći na pramcu trajekta u zaljevu Bellingham.
Sea Change predstavlja još jednu industriju koja istražuje i nastoji primijeniti gorivni članak, koji se već koristi u automobilima, vlakovima i rekreacijskim plovilima.
Zagovornici te tehnologije ističu da su gorivni članci čišći od drugih metoda za smanjenje emisija ugljičnog dioksida jer oni ispuštaju samo vodu i toplinu, no njihova je upotreba ograničena zbog visokih troškova i glomaznosti sustava.
Ralli je trajekt na gorivne članke osmislio kada je živio u New Yorku i kada je pokušavao pronaći načine da se smanji emisija ugljikova dioksida u pomorskoj industriji.
"Ovo će biti novi standard u plovilima na pogon gorivnih članaka. Čisti su, učinkoviti i imaju smisla gospodarski", rekao je voditelj projekta Jeff Sokolik, koji je vjeruje da bi ova ekološki prihvatljiva pomorska inovacija mogla biti široko prihvaćena već za 10 godina.
Ako sve bude išlo prema planu, Ralli je rekao da će brod biti dostavljen u zaljevsko područje San Francisca i početi prevoziti putnike u lipnju, taman na vrijeme za ljetnu sezonu u San Franciscu.

Zaljevsko područje San Francisca u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama uskoro će dobiti novi trajekt koji će umjesto fosilnih goriva koristiti vodikove gorivne članke, a dužnosnici se nadaju da će nagovijestiti promjenu u pomorstvu.
Prikladno nazvan "Sea Change" (morska promjena), 21 metara dugačak trajekt za 75 putnika će pristajati na nekoliko točaka uzduž obale zaljeva.
Izgrađen je u brodogradilištu All American Marine u gradu Bellinghamu u američkoj saveznoj državi Washington, a testirala ga je američka obalna straža u obližnjem tjesnacu Puget.
"Ovdje smo u vodi s energijom vodikovih gorivnih članaka i prvim komercijalnim plovilom koje ima taj sustav pogona", rekao je Pace Ralli, izvršni upravitelj tvrtke Switch Maritime, stojeći na pramcu trajekta u zaljevu Bellingham.
Sea Change predstavlja još jednu industriju koja istražuje i nastoji primijeniti gorivni članak, koji se već koristi u automobilima, vlakovima i rekreacijskim plovilima.
Zagovornici te tehnologije ističu da su gorivni članci čišći od drugih metoda za smanjenje emisija ugljičnog dioksida jer oni ispuštaju samo vodu i toplinu, no njihova je upotreba ograničena zbog visokih troškova i glomaznosti sustava.
Ralli je trajekt na gorivne članke osmislio kada je živio u New Yorku i kada je pokušavao pronaći načine da se smanji emisija ugljikova dioksida u pomorskoj industriji.
"Ovo će biti novi standard u plovilima na pogon gorivnih članaka. Čisti su, učinkoviti i imaju smisla gospodarski", rekao je voditelj projekta Jeff Sokolik, koji je vjeruje da bi ova ekološki prihvatljiva pomorska inovacija mogla biti široko prihvaćena već za 10 godina.
Ako sve bude išlo prema planu, Ralli je rekao da će brod biti dostavljen u zaljevsko područje San Francisca i početi prevoziti putnike u lipnju, taman na vrijeme za ljetnu sezonu u San Franciscu.
