Plima je proteklih tjedana na obalu Floride izbacila stotine tona mrtvih riba.

- Plažama se širi truli smrad riba, Kada šećem psa ujutro, gušim se u mirisu smrt - izjavio je Thomas Patarek, koji živi u blizini jedne od tamošnjih plaža, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Razlog masovnom umiranju riba leži u crvenoj plimi. Ona nije povezana s prirodnim ciklusom plime i oseke, već je izazvana od strane velikog broja algi – fitoplanktona, koje se skupljaju blizu površine vode u velikom broju. Alge u velikom broju ispuštaju svoj otrov koji je poguban za mnoštvo riba i ostalog morskog života, a kod čovjeka mogu izazvati upalu kože.

Stručnjaci su ovakav scenarij predviđali nakon izlijeva fosfata iz rezervoara tvrtke Piney Point krajem svibnja. Naime, zna se kako otpadne vode stvaraju bakterije kojima se hrane alge, a koje se tada počnu nekontrolirano širiti, stvarajući crvenu plimu.

Iz Tampa Bay Timesa tvrde kako je u rezervoaru koji je iscurio stajalo 480 milijuna litara otpadnih voda, a prošloga tjedna državna Agencija za zaštitu okoliša podnijela je tužbu protiv vlasnika gore spomenute tvrtke radi kršenja propisa o sigurnosti zbrinjavanja otpada. Stručnjaci vjeruju i kako zagrijavanje vode, radi klimatskih promjena, također utječe na crvenu plimu.

Istrebljenje riba događa se na jednom od najosjetljivijih i najproduktivnijih morskih staništa u državi, domu nekoliko ugroženih vrsta. Većina mrtvih riba uklonjena je s obale zahvaljujući naporu lokalne zajednice. Reakcija središnjih vlasti bila je, prema izvješćima, nezadovoljavajuća.

Za ugrožene vrste smatraju se one biljke i životinje kojima prijeti izumiranje. Razlog je najčešće gubitak i degradacija staništa, ali i onečišćenje, klimatske promjene i invazivne strane vrste, među ostalim. Međutim, biološka raznolikost ključna je za zdrave ekosustave i ljudski život.

Kako bi sačuvao ugrožene vrste, Europski parlament je usvojio svoje stajalište o „Strategiji EU-a za biološku raznolikost do 2030.: Vraćanje prirode u naše živote“ koja se bavi glavnim pokretačima gubitka biološke raznolikosti i postavljanjem pravno obvezujućih ciljeva.

Plima je proteklih tjedana na obalu Floride izbacila stotine tona mrtvih riba.

- Plažama se širi truli smrad riba, Kada šećem psa ujutro, gušim se u mirisu smrt - izjavio je Thomas Patarek, koji živi u blizini jedne od tamošnjih plaža, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Razlog masovnom umiranju riba leži u crvenoj plimi. Ona nije povezana s prirodnim ciklusom plime i oseke, već je izazvana od strane velikog broja algi – fitoplanktona, koje se skupljaju blizu površine vode u velikom broju. Alge u velikom broju ispuštaju svoj otrov koji je poguban za mnoštvo riba i ostalog morskog života, a kod čovjeka mogu izazvati upalu kože.

Stručnjaci su ovakav scenarij predviđali nakon izlijeva fosfata iz rezervoara tvrtke Piney Point krajem svibnja. Naime, zna se kako otpadne vode stvaraju bakterije kojima se hrane alge, a koje se tada počnu nekontrolirano širiti, stvarajući crvenu plimu.

Iz Tampa Bay Timesa tvrde kako je u rezervoaru koji je iscurio stajalo 480 milijuna litara otpadnih voda, a prošloga tjedna državna Agencija za zaštitu okoliša podnijela je tužbu protiv vlasnika gore spomenute tvrtke radi kršenja propisa o sigurnosti zbrinjavanja otpada. Stručnjaci vjeruju i kako zagrijavanje vode, radi klimatskih promjena, također utječe na crvenu plimu.

Istrebljenje riba događa se na jednom od najosjetljivijih i najproduktivnijih morskih staništa u državi, domu nekoliko ugroženih vrsta. Većina mrtvih riba uklonjena je s obale zahvaljujući naporu lokalne zajednice. Reakcija središnjih vlasti bila je, prema izvješćima, nezadovoljavajuća.

Za ugrožene vrste smatraju se one biljke i životinje kojima prijeti izumiranje. Razlog je najčešće gubitak i degradacija staništa, ali i onečišćenje, klimatske promjene i invazivne strane vrste, među ostalim. Međutim, biološka raznolikost ključna je za zdrave ekosustave i ljudski život.

Kako bi sačuvao ugrožene vrste, Europski parlament je usvojio svoje stajalište o „Strategiji EU-a za biološku raznolikost do 2030.: Vraćanje prirode u naše živote“ koja se bavi glavnim pokretačima gubitka biološke raznolikosti i postavljanjem pravno obvezujućih ciljeva.
