Obnovljene stonske utvrde i zidine iznova čuvaju oklopljeni vitezovi. Ovi današnji su, k tome, i vrsni plivači, usprkos teškom oklopu: riječ je o američkom plavom raku, (lat. Callinectes sapidus), invazivnoj vrsti unesenoj u naše more još prije više desetaka godina u balastnim vodama prekooceanskih brodova.

Za razliku od domaćih rakova što hodaju po dnu, i to isključivo na rikverc, ovaj pogolemi predator pliva k'o Veljko Rogošić i melje sve živo pred sobom snažnim kliještima: konkurentske rakove, ribu, školjke, jegulje, strvine. S lakoćom uništava i klasične dalmatinske vrše, tako da za ulov treba prakticirati nešto robusnije američke modele, one od čelične žice obložene plastikom.

Plavi rak se u Stonskome kanalu već prilično razmnožio i razbahatio: u opkopu oko tvrđave Kaštio usred gradića uočili smo već prilikom jedne šetnje barem 3-4 primjerka. Ima ga, pričaju nam mještani, i u pličinama i morskim prolazima obližnje stonske solane.

Stonjani nam se žale kako s njegovim pojačanim prisustvom iz ovdašnjih pličina i kanala sve više iščezavaju jegulje i cipli, koji su u jatima prije znali ulaziti u potoke u kojima se miješa more i slatka izvorska voda.

Meso plavog raka je prava delicija, a masa odraslog primjerka kreće se u prosjeku od pola do jednog kilograma. U Americi predstavlja jednu od najkomercijalnijih ribarskih vrsta i tamošnje tržište, a naročito restorani, ga naprosto obožavaju. Kod nas se još nije naročito udomaćio na turističkim trpezama, ali sigurno dolazi vrijeme kad će sladokusci morati snažnije prionuti njegovom masovnijem uništavanju.

Plavi rak je, naime, uvršten na popis najagresivnijih invazivnih vrsta u Mediteranu, zbog visoke stope plodnosti te velike tolerancije na razne uvjete u okolišu. Preživljava u vodama ogromnog raspona saliniteta i temperature, kao i pri niskim koncentracijama kisika.

Njegove iznimne plivačke sposobnosti, nedostatak prirodnih predatora i agresivnost već ima značajan utjecaj na bioraznolikost lokalne zajednice. Praktično je svejed, no posebna su mu poslastica školjke, naročito mušule, kojima kliještima vještije od čovjeka zna prerezati mišić koji ljušturu drži zatvorenom.

Preseli li se, dakle plavi rak uskoro na drugu stranu Pelješca, u Malostonski zaljev, štete po uzgajališta školjaka, povrh onih od orada, mogle bi postati fatalne, a buzara sve rjeđi obrok na stolovima građana.

Obnovljene stonske utvrde i zidine iznova čuvaju oklopljeni vitezovi. Ovi današnji su, k tome, i vrsni plivači, usprkos teškom oklopu: riječ je o američkom plavom raku, (lat. Callinectes sapidus), invazivnoj vrsti unesenoj u naše more još prije više desetaka godina u balastnim vodama prekooceanskih brodova.

Za razliku od domaćih rakova što hodaju po dnu, i to isključivo na rikverc, ovaj pogolemi predator pliva k'o Veljko Rogošić i melje sve živo pred sobom snažnim kliještima: konkurentske rakove, ribu, školjke, jegulje, strvine. S lakoćom uništava i klasične dalmatinske vrše, tako da za ulov treba prakticirati nešto robusnije američke modele, one od čelične žice obložene plastikom.

Plavi rak se u Stonskome kanalu već prilično razmnožio i razbahatio: u opkopu oko tvrđave Kaštio usred gradića uočili smo već prilikom jedne šetnje barem 3-4 primjerka. Ima ga, pričaju nam mještani, i u pličinama i morskim prolazima obližnje stonske solane.

Stonjani nam se žale kako s njegovim pojačanim prisustvom iz ovdašnjih pličina i kanala sve više iščezavaju jegulje i cipli, koji su u jatima prije znali ulaziti u potoke u kojima se miješa more i slatka izvorska voda.

Meso plavog raka je prava delicija, a masa odraslog primjerka kreće se u prosjeku od pola do jednog kilograma. U Americi predstavlja jednu od najkomercijalnijih ribarskih vrsta i tamošnje tržište, a naročito restorani, ga naprosto obožavaju. Kod nas se još nije naročito udomaćio na turističkim trpezama, ali sigurno dolazi vrijeme kad će sladokusci morati snažnije prionuti njegovom masovnijem uništavanju.

Plavi rak je, naime, uvršten na popis najagresivnijih invazivnih vrsta u Mediteranu, zbog visoke stope plodnosti te velike tolerancije na razne uvjete u okolišu. Preživljava u vodama ogromnog raspona saliniteta i temperature, kao i pri niskim koncentracijama kisika.

Njegove iznimne plivačke sposobnosti, nedostatak prirodnih predatora i agresivnost već ima značajan utjecaj na bioraznolikost lokalne zajednice. Praktično je svejed, no posebna su mu poslastica školjke, naročito mušule, kojima kliještima vještije od čovjeka zna prerezati mišić koji ljušturu drži zatvorenom.

Obnovljene stonske utvrde i zidine iznova čuvaju oklopljeni vitezovi. Ovi današnji su, k tome, i vrsni plivači, usprkos teškom oklopu: riječ je o američkom plavom raku, (lat. Callinectes sapidus), invazivnoj vrsti unesenoj u naše more još prije više desetaka godina u balastnim vodama prekooceanskih brodova.

Za razliku od domaćih rakova što hodaju po dnu, i to isključivo na rikverc, ovaj pogolemi predator pliva k'o Veljko Rogošić i melje sve živo pred sobom snažnim kliještima: konkurentske rakove, ribu, školjke, jegulje, strvine. S lakoćom uništava i klasične dalmatinske vrše, tako da za ulov treba prakticirati nešto robusnije američke modele, one od čelične žice obložene plastikom.

Plavi rak se u Stonskome kanalu već prilično razmnožio i razbahatio: u opkopu oko tvrđave Kaštio usred gradića uočili smo već prilikom jedne šetnje barem 3-4 primjerka. Ima ga, pričaju nam mještani, i u pličinama i morskim prolazima obližnje stonske solane.

Stonjani nam se žale kako s njegovim pojačanim prisustvom iz ovdašnjih pličina i kanala sve više iščezavaju jegulje i cipli, koji su u jatima prije znali ulaziti u potoke u kojima se miješa more i slatka izvorska voda.

Meso plavog raka je prava delicija, a masa odraslog primjerka kreće se u prosjeku od pola do jednog kilograma. U Americi predstavlja jednu od najkomercijalnijih ribarskih vrsta i tamošnje tržište, a naročito restorani, ga naprosto obožavaju. Kod nas se još nije naročito udomaćio na turističkim trpezama, ali sigurno dolazi vrijeme kad će sladokusci morati snažnije prionuti njegovom masovnijem uništavanju.

Plavi rak je, naime, uvršten na popis najagresivnijih invazivnih vrsta u Mediteranu, zbog visoke stope plodnosti te velike tolerancije na razne uvjete u okolišu. Preživljava u vodama ogromnog raspona saliniteta i temperature, kao i pri niskim koncentracijama kisika.

Njegove iznimne plivačke sposobnosti, nedostatak prirodnih predatora i agresivnost već ima značajan utjecaj na bioraznolikost lokalne zajednice. Praktično je svejed, no posebna su mu poslastica školjke, naročito mušule, kojima kliještima vještije od čovjeka zna prerezati mišić koji ljušturu drži zatvorenom.
