I dok praktično nema osobe koja nije čula tko je Robinson Crusoe, malo ljudi zna tko je Alexander Selkirk.

On je bio škotski mornar kojeg je početkom 18. stoljeća, nakon jedne svađe, kapetan prvotno na njegov zahtjev iskrcao na pusti otok u Tihom oceanu. Tamo je Selkirk ostao pune četiri godine, a njegova je životna priča nadahnula Daniela Defoea da napiše roman koji mu je donio svjetsku slavu.

Za one koji žele znati više, Selkirk (1676. - 13. prosinca 1721.) bio je časnik Kraljevske mornarice i preživio je iskušenje pustog otoka, ali je godinama kasnije umro od tropske bolesti dok je služio kao poručnik na brodu HMS Weymouth kod zapadne Afrike.

Prema pričama, Selkirk je bio neobuzdan mladić i pridružio se gusarskim putovanjima u južni Pacifik tijekom rata za španjolsko nasljeđe. Jedna takva ekspedicija bila je na Cinque Ports, koju je vodio Thomas Stradling pod općim zapovjedništvom Williama Dampiera. Stradlingov brod zaustavio se radi opskrbe na nenaseljenom otočju Juan Fernández, zapadno od Južne Amerike, a Selkirk je ispravno procijenio da je brod nesposoban za pdaljnju lovidbu te je tražio od kapetana da ga tamo i ostave. Selkirkove sumnje ubrzo su bile opravdane, jer se jedrenjak potopio u blizini otoka Malpelo, 250 milja od obale Kolumbije.

Na koncu, Slkirka je s pustog otoka spasila posada engleskog broda.

I dok praktično nema osobe koja nije čula tko je Robinson Crusoe, malo ljudi zna tko je Alexander Selkirk.

On je bio škotski mornar kojeg je početkom 18. stoljeća, nakon jedne svađe, kapetan prvotno na njegov zahtjev iskrcao na pusti otok u Tihom oceanu. Tamo je Selkirk ostao pune četiri godine, a njegova je životna priča nadahnula Daniela Defoea da napiše roman koji mu je donio svjetsku slavu.

Za one koji žele znati više, Selkirk (1676. - 13. prosinca 1721.) bio je časnik Kraljevske mornarice i preživio je iskušenje pustog otoka, ali je godinama kasnije umro od tropske bolesti dok je služio kao poručnik na brodu HMS Weymouth kod zapadne Afrike.

Prema pričama, Selkirk je bio neobuzdan mladić i pridružio se gusarskim putovanjima u južni Pacifik tijekom rata za španjolsko nasljeđe. Jedna takva ekspedicija bila je na Cinque Ports, koju je vodio Thomas Stradling pod općim zapovjedništvom Williama Dampiera. Selkirkove sumnje ubrzo su bile opravdane, jer se jedrenjak potopio u blizini otoka Malpelo, 250 milja od obale Kolumbije.

I dok praktično nema osobe koja nije čula tko je Robinson Crusoe, malo ljudi zna tko je Alexander Selkirk.

On je bio škotski mornar kojeg je početkom 18. stoljeća, nakon jedne svađe, kapetan prvotno na njegov zahtjev iskrcao na pusti otok u Tihom oceanu. Tamo je Selkirk ostao pune četiri godine, a njegova je životna priča nadahnula Daniela Defoea da napiše roman koji mu je donio svjetsku slavu.

Za one koji žele znati više, Selkirk (1676. - 13. prosinca 1721.) bio je časnik Kraljevske mornarice i preživio je iskušenje pustog otoka, ali je godinama kasnije umro od tropske bolesti dok je služio kao poručnik na brodu HMS Weymouth kod zapadne Afrike.

Prema pričama, Selkirk je bio neobuzdan mladić i pridružio se gusarskim putovanjima u južni Pacifik tijekom rata za španjolsko nasljeđe. Jedna takva ekspedicija bila je na Cinque Ports, koju je vodio Thomas Stradling pod općim zapovjedništvom Williama Dampiera.
