Kada se, jedreći oko Long Islanda, Paul Alling Sperry, pokliznuo na palubi svoga broda i pao u more, shvatio je da na tržištu ne postoji obuća koja bi mornarima omogućavala da bez opasnosti od klizanja hodaju po brodskim palubama.

Uspio se izvući iz mora i zarekao se da će napraviti adekvatnu obuću za pomorce. Kao inspiracija poslužila mu je šapa njegovog koker španijela.

Sjetio se da ga je vidio kako bez problema trči niz zaleđenu padinu, pa je napravio cipele koje su na đonu imale šaru u obliku jastučića pseće šape.

Novost je bila i bijeli đon, kako ne bi ostavljao crne tragove na palubi. Vrlo brzo modificirao je šaru i pseća šapa je postala riblja kost.

Tvrtku Sperry, koja postoji i danas, osnovao je 1935. i prvih je godina proizvodio manji broj cipela za potrebe rekreativnih nautičara. No, vrijednost firme naglo je skočila 1939. kada je Američka mornarica odlučila svoje mornare obuvati u Sperryjeve cipele.

Od 2012. godine nautička obuća Sperry u vlasništvu je američkog proizvođača obuće Wolverine World Wide.

Kada se, jedreći oko Long Islanda, Paul Alling Sperry, pokliznuo na palubi svoga broda i pao u more, shvatio je da na tržištu ne postoji obuća koja bi mornarima omogućavala da bez opasnosti od klizanja hodaju po brodskim palubama.

Uspio se izvući iz mora i zarekao se da će napraviti adekvatnu obuću za pomorce. Kao inspiracija poslužila mu je šapa njegovog koker španijela.

Sjetio se da ga je vidio kako bez problema trči niz zaleđenu padinu, pa je napravio cipele koje su na đonu imale šaru u obliku jastučića pseće šape.

Novost je bila i bijeli đon, kako ne bi ostavljao crne tragove na palubi. Vrlo brzo modificirao je šaru i pseća šapa je postala riblja kost.

Tvrtku Sperry, koja postoji i danas, osnovao je 1935. i prvih je godina proizvodio manji broj cipela za potrebe rekreativnih nautičara. No, vrijednost firme naglo je skočila 1939. kada je Američka mornarica odlučila svoje mornare obuvati u Sperryjeve cipele.

Od 2012. godine nautička obuća Sperry u vlasništvu je američkog proizvođača obuće Wolverine World Wide.

Kada se, jedreći oko Long Islanda, Paul Alling Sperry, pokliznuo na palubi svoga broda i pao u more, shvatio je da na tržištu ne postoji obuća koja bi mornarima omogućavala da bez opasnosti od klizanja hodaju po brodskim palubama.

Uspio se izvući iz mora i zarekao se da će napraviti adekvatnu obuću za pomorce. Kao inspiracija poslužila mu je šapa njegovog koker španijela.

Sjetio se da ga je vidio kako bez problema trči niz zaleđenu padinu, pa je napravio cipele koje su na đonu imale šaru u obliku jastučića pseće šape.

Novost je bila i bijeli đon, kako ne bi ostavljao crne tragove na palubi. Vrlo brzo modificirao je šaru i pseća šapa je postala riblja kost.

Tvrtku Sperry, koja postoji i danas, osnovao je 1935. i prvih je godina proizvodio manji broj cipela za potrebe rekreativnih nautičara. No, vrijednost firme naglo je skočila 1939. kada je Američka mornarica odlučila svoje mornare obuvati u Sperryjeve cipele.

Od 2012. godine nautička obuća Sperry u vlasništvu je američkog proizvođača obuće Wolverine World Wide.
