Sa samo dva scenarija, za mračni "Sedam" i "Osam milimetara", Andrew Kevin Walker je postao vodeći trilerski scenarist devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća. Međutim, Walker je potom napustio žanr trilera dobre dvije dekade, da bi mu se vratio tek ove godine s crnohumornim talačkim "home invasion" trilerom "Windfall", novitetom na Netflixu.

Štošta se promijenilo od devedesetih naovamo i filmovi su se posljednjih godinu-dvije počeli snimati u svedenim, pandemijskim uvjetima, stoga je Walker, prema ideji glumca Jasona Segela, složio scenarij za "Windfall" koji uključuje svega troje likova i odvija se na jednoj lokaciji.

Scenarij je potentan i solidno, premda katkad tonalno i žanrovski neujednačeno, preseljen na ekran od strane Charlieja McDowella, sina kultnog glumca Malcolma ("Paklena naranča", "Plavi grom", "Generacija 1999").

McDowell nije jedino dijete slavne osobe u ekipi, tu je i Lily Collins ("Emily u Parizu", "Na kraju duge", "Tolkien"), kćerka poznatog glazbenika Phila.

Uz McDowella iza kamere i Collins ispred nje, priča "Windfalla" postaje subverzivna budući da se dodiruje društvene nejednakosti i sraza onih koji imaju i onih koji nemaju, funkcionirajući kao kritika privilegiranih i naslanjajući se na recentne filmove poput "Parazita" i "Spremni ili ne".

Nije to jedina subverzija filma jer Segel subvertira svoj imidž dobriše iz komedija ("Kako sam upoznao vašu majku", "Preboljeti Sarah Marshall", "Muppeti", "Prijatelji"). Segel je uvjetno rečeno negativac "Windfalla", tip kojeg zatječemo u nečijoj luksuznoj vikendici na osami kako uživa u komodu i čistom zraku, ispija sok od naranče i vjerojatno zamišlja kako bi bilo da je njegova.

Baš kad se spremao otići s Rolexom i nešto novaca pronađenih u kući, dolazi vlasnik vikendice (poslovično Jesse Plemmons; svjež od svoje prve oskarovske nominacije za "Šape pasje") sa suprugom (Collins u nešto drukčijem izdanju).

I eto talačke situacije u vikendici negdje u Kaliforniji koja je daleko od najbližih susjeda, pri čemu nitko od troje aktera ne zna kako bi se točno ponašao, što stvara neke humorne trenutke, uparene sa scenama neuspješnog pokušaja bijega ("Pobijedio sam! Uhvatio sam te!") ili kad provalnik ne uspijeva zavezati vlasnika itd.

Zanimljivo, nijedan lik u filmu nema ime, svo troje su neimenovani. Provalnik je u kreditima zaveden samo kao Nobody (Nitko), vlasnik kuće kao CEO (Direktor), a njegova bolja polovica kao Wife (Žena), čime Walker i McDowell potenciraju poistovjećivanje gledatelja s njima, običnim ljudima u neobičnoj situaciji.

Nitko može biti bilo koji nikogović bez para na svijetu, CEO bilo koji direktor, a Wife bilo koja direktorova žena. On može utjelovljavati svakog čovjeka koji nema ništa, a oni par koji imaju sve. Dašak realizma prisutan je u filmu koji se otvara dugim statičnim kadrom ozvučenim "hičkokovskom" glazbom.

Tek kad se izredaju sva imena na uvodnoj špici, kamera će se pomaknuti i okrenuti pogled nadesno. Početak i prva polovica prilično su dobri, nudeći nešto drukčije od sličnih postavki, viđenih, primjerice, u filmu "The Ref" iz 1994. s Kevinom Spaceyjem i Judy Davis kao taocima komičara Dennisa Learyja, odnosno ne slijedeći krvavi trag novijih crno-i-crveno-humornih trilera sa supružnicima-zatočenicima u kolibi na osami ("Izlet" s Noomi Rapace i Akselom Henniejem).

Problem je kad tenzije splasnu i film postane previše razgovorljiv za svoje dobro, ali "Windfall" nastoji ne biti tipičan pa nikad ne doznajemo tko je točno Nitko, osim da želi znati kako je biti (kao) Direktor. Je li on ima nešto osobno protiv vlasnika i kako/zašto je banuo baš u ovu vikendicu?

S druge strane, suptilno doznajemo dosta o braku Direktora i Žene, njegove bivše asistentice, od poluskinute tetovaže ruže na njezinoj nozi nadalje. Pukotine u njihovu odnosu sve su veće, a njezino nezadovoljstvo opipljivije. "Kriva strana kreveta, dušo", pita Direktor nadurenu Ženu. "Zar postoji prava", odgovara ona protupitanjem. "Windfall" je crnohumorni triler talačke i bračne krize.

Redatelj i glumica u stvarnom braku

Lily Collins je, krajnje interesantno, stvarna supruga Charlieja McDowell, a ovo je njihov prvi zajednički film za koji im je trebalo hrabrosti s obzirom na temu.

Sa samo dva scenarija, za mračni "Sedam" i "Osam milimetara", Andrew Kevin Walker je postao vodeći trilerski scenarist devedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća. Međutim, Walker je potom napustio žanr trilera dobre dvije dekade, da bi mu se vratio tek ove godine s crnohumornim talačkim "home invasion" trilerom "Windfall", novitetom na Netflixu.

Štošta se promijenilo od devedesetih naovamo i filmovi su se posljednjih godinu-dvije počeli snimati u svedenim, pandemijskim uvjetima, stoga je Walker, prema ideji glumca Jasona Segela, složio scenarij za "Windfall" koji uključuje svega troje likova i odvija se na jednoj lokaciji.

Scenarij je potentan i solidno, premda katkad tonalno i žanrovski neujednačeno, preseljen na ekran od strane Charlieja McDowella, sina kultnog glumca Malcolma ("Paklena naranča", "Plavi grom", "Generacija 1999").

McDowell nije jedino dijete slavne osobe u ekipi, tu je i Lily Collins ("Emily u Parizu", "Na kraju duge", "Tolkien"), kćerka poznatog glazbenika Phila.

Uz McDowella iza kamere i Collins ispred nje, priča "Windfalla" postaje subverzivna budući da se dodiruje društvene nejednakosti i sraza onih koji imaju i onih koji nemaju, funkcionirajući kao kritika privilegiranih i naslanjajući se na recentne filmove poput "Parazita" i "Spremni ili ne".

Nije to jedina subverzija filma jer Segel subvertira svoj imidž dobriše iz komedija ("Kako sam upoznao vašu majku", "Preboljeti Sarah Marshall", "Muppeti", "Prijatelji"). Segel je uvjetno rečeno negativac "Windfalla", tip kojeg zatječemo u nečijoj luksuznoj vikendici na osami kako uživa u komodu i čistom zraku, ispija sok od naranče i vjerojatno zamišlja kako bi bilo da je njegova.

Baš kad se spremao otići s Rolexom i nešto novaca pronađenih u kući, dolazi vlasnik vikendice (poslovično Jesse Plemmons; svjež od svoje prve oskarovske nominacije za "Šape pasje") sa suprugom (Collins u nešto drukčijem izdanju).

I eto talačke situacije u vikendici negdje u Kaliforniji koja je daleko od najbližih susjeda, pri čemu nitko od troje aktera ne zna kako bi se točno ponašao, što stvara neke humorne trenutke, uparene sa scenama neuspješnog pokušaja bijega ("Pobijedio sam! Uhvatio sam te!") ili kad provalnik ne uspijeva zavezati vlasnika itd.

Zanimljivo, nijedan lik u filmu nema ime, svo troje su neimenovani. Provalnik je u kreditima zaveden samo kao Nobody (Nitko), vlasnik kuće kao CEO (Direktor), a njegova bolja polovica kao Wife (Žena), čime Walker i McDowell potenciraju poistovjećivanje gledatelja s njima, običnim ljudima u neobičnoj situaciji.

Nitko može biti bilo koji nikogović bez para na svijetu, CEO bilo koji direktor, a Wife bilo koja direktorova žena. On može utjelovljavati svakog čovjeka koji nema ništa, a oni par koji imaju sve. Dašak realizma prisutan je u filmu koji se otvara dugim statičnim kadrom ozvučenim "hičkokovskom" glazbom.

Tek kad se izredaju sva imena na uvodnoj špici, kamera će se pomaknuti i okrenuti pogled nadesno. Početak i prva polovica prilično su dobri, nudeći nešto drukčije od sličnih postavki, viđenih, primjerice, u filmu "The Ref" iz 1994. s Kevinom Spaceyjem i Judy Davis kao taocima komičara Dennisa Learyja, odnosno ne slijedeći krvavi trag novijih crno-i-crveno-humornih trilera sa supružnicima-zatočenicima u kolibi na osami ("Izlet" s Noomi Rapace i Akselom Henniejem).

Problem je kad tenzije splasnu i film postane previše razgovorljiv za svoje dobro, ali "Windfall" nastoji ne biti tipičan pa nikad ne doznajemo tko je točno Nitko, osim da želi znati kako je biti (kao) Direktor. Je li on ima nešto osobno protiv vlasnika i kako/zašto je banuo baš u ovu vikendicu?

S druge strane, suptilno doznajemo dosta o braku Direktora i Žene, njegove bivše asistentice, od poluskinute tetovaže ruže na njezinoj nozi nadalje. Pukotine u njihovu odnosu sve su veće, a njezino nezadovoljstvo opipljivije. "Kriva strana kreveta, dušo", pita Direktor nadurenu Ženu. "Zar postoji prava", odgovara ona protupitanjem. "Windfall" je crnohumorni triler talačke i bračne krize.

Redatelj i glumica u stvarnom braku

Lily Collins je, krajnje interesantno, stvarna supruga Charlieja McDowell, a ovo je njihov prvi zajednički film za koji im je trebalo hrabrosti s obzirom na temu.
