Zasjao je "Gorki mjesec" ("Bitter Moon", 1992.) u godini kad je psihoseksualni, erotski triler sa "Sirovim strastima" dosezao vrhunac, stoga film na određeni način predstavlja ogled Romana Polanskog sa žanrom i njegov pogled na isti. Trileri su od početaka karijere bili forte poljskog redatelja, mahom psihološke ("Nož u vodi", "Stanar"), noirovske ("Kineska četvrt"), hororske ("Odvratnost", "Rosemaryna beba") ili hičkokovske vrste ("Ludilo"), uz dodatak ironičnog, crnog humora.

Svaki od tih filmova je u većoj ili manjoj mjeri sadržavao nešto perverzno, voajersko i dvosmisleno, manevrirajući između psihološkog i seksualnog. Psihoseksualni, erotski triler bio je, tako, pitanje vremena za Polanskog koji je ekranizirao roman "Lunes de Fiel" Pascala Brucknera.

Voajerski, erotski opsesivni "Gorki mjesec", ekranizacija romana "Lunes de Fiel" Pascala Brucknera, izgleda kao film kojeg je mogao snimiti i Brian De Palma da 1992. nije režirao "Cainovo prokletstvo", ali je svejedno stopostotni Polanski, vjerojatno i jedan od njegovih najintimnijih uradaka.

Kao i u redateljevu prvijencu "Knife In The Water", radnja se najvećim dijelom odvija na brodu, ne računajući prošlosne flešbekove ambijentirane u Pariz. Jedrilicu s tri lika, jednom djevojkom i dvojicom muškaraca, zamijenio je putnički brod koji plovi prema Istanbulu, a glavnu riječ vode dva bračna para.

Uštogljeni britanski par Nigel i Fiona (Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott-Thomas) odlučio se na putovanje ne bi li osvježio sedmogodišnji brak. Na istom brodu se nalaze i ogorčeni, neostvareni američki pisac u kolicima Oscar i njegova puno mlađa francuska "femme fatale" supruga, plesačica Mimi (Peter Cyote, Emmanuelle Seigner).

Fiona jednog jutra pronalazi Mimi u nesvijesti u toaletu, ali već tu istu večer vamp Francuskinja zapleše na podiju na taktove pjesme "Fever" Peggy Lee, izgledajući kao da nije ona od jutros i hipnotizira Nigela seksi kakva jest. "Je li to neka vrsta igre?", pita je Nigel kojeg Oscar upozori da je njegova zgodna žena "hodajuća zamka za muškarca".

"Ja sam joj muž, pogledaj što mi je napravila", kaže Oscar i nagovori Nigela da posluša njegovu priču o njihovu braku koju će on rado ispričati potpunom strancu. Isprve Nigel odbija slušati, ali postupno postaje fasciniran onim što čuje i potpuno očaran atraktivnom Mimi, koju je teško izbiti iz glave jednom kad je vidite, zapetljavajući se u paukovu mrežu bračnog para, moguće njihovu nastranu igricu.

Oscar kreće od početka njihove romanse, kad je sreo Mimi u pariškom autobusu i spasio je od kontrolora davši joj svoju kartu. U tom trenutku Oscaru se "pružila prilika da vidi tračak raja", što je interesantna rečenica ako se u obzir uzme "đavlija" Seigner u paklenim "Devetim vratima".

Od slatke erotske romanse, preko sadomazohističkog seksa, do gorke opsesivnosti kratak je put, prevaljen u grafičkim flešbekovima od kojih je mogao nastati i samostalni film, jer Oscar i Mimi, s "kreditom na izmaku", ubrzo kreću prema "seksualnom bankrotu", odnosno "svaka veza sadrži sjeme farse i tragedije koliko god harmonična bila".

"Bitter Moon" bi u tom slučaju bio relativno standardni erotski triler na temu opsesije, (s)eksplatacije i braka osuđenog na propast, premda i kao takav gradio most između "Posljednjeg tanga u Parizu" i "Kobne privlačnosti", tj. erotskih trilera iz bračnog života ("Oči širom zatvorene", "Nestala", "Duboka voda"), a iznad standarda ga uzdižu neke "kinky" scene s bičevima i svinjećim maskama.

Mimi izaziva Oscara tako što otpije gutljaj mlijeka i sugestivno pusti da bijela tekućina iscuri po njezinim grudima dok svira "Faith" Georgea Michaela, a u odsudnom momentu tostevi iskoče iz tostera da najprije hororski šokiraju, potom i malo nasmiju publiku. Uzavrelu erotsku maštu "Gorki mjesec" dijeli s "Devet i pol tjedana", kao i pjesmu "Slave To Love" Bryana Ferryja koju ovdje pred kraj filma svira bend na brodskom dočeku Nove godine.

Finale djeluje pomalo jeftino i naprasno, no sve što mu prethodi žanrovski je još uvijek intrigantno i prilično beskompromisno. Kome je mučno ovo putovanje, neka pomije dramina tabletu, kao da poručuje Polanski koji ne odlazi toliko daleko u smjeru "Helenine kutije", ali koristi priliku da višestruko izokrene žanr na perverzno zadovoljstvo samoga sebe, ako ne i gledatelja koji sluša priču poput Nigela, budeći sadista u sebi privučen bračnim nastranostima, tuđom patnjom i Miminom ljepotom.

"Svatko ima sadističku crtu i ništa to ne pokazuje bolje od spoznaje da imaš nekoga u svojoj milosti", pripovijeda Oscar i veli Nigelu "Bio bi dobar analitičar, nema mnogo muškaraca koji bi slušali toliko toga toliko dugo", obraćajući se u ime Polanskog i gledatelju.

Polanski, kao prvo, režira "Bitter Moon" tako da se erotski triler može i samo odigravati u glavi pripovjedača i slušača (Oscar, Nigel). "Ne vjeruj svemu što kaže, bolestan je čovjek, umišlja stvari", Nigelu govori Mimi koju ovaj gleda drukčijim očima od priče do priče.

Drugo, fatalna žena, suprotno pravilima žanra, biva poružnjena i svedena na beznadežnu romantičarku na čas-dva, toliko zaljubljenu u Oscara da je spremna podvrći se njegovoj psihološkoj torturi, prije nego što se stvari preokrenu i ona povrati "femme fatale" status.

Treće, krajnje osobno i metafilmski, na primjeru blago rečeno smionog, ekshibionističkog castinga, Mimi glumi stvarna supruga Polanskog, od njega dvostruko mlađa Seigner, koju je on također upoznao u Parizu, na snimanju trilera "Frantic", nakon čega je često angažira u svojim filmovima ("Venera u krznu", "Prema istinitoj priči").

Je li njihov brak bio preslik Oscarovog i Miminog ili ne, "Gorki mjesec" djeluje kao da je netko podijelio detalje vlastitog seksualnog života s nama gledateljima, potpunim strancima, što se baš i ne može reći za ostale erotske trilere.

Vangelisova glazba

Glazbu za film skladao je Vangelis ("Istrebljivač", "Bounty"). U jednoj sceni Oscar na TV-u gleda "Bilo jednom u Americi" s Robertom De Nirom i Jamesom Woodsom, što je posebno zanimljivo budući da je upravo za tu ulogu bio razmatran potonji glumac. Hugh Grant i Kristin Scott Thomas glumili su dvije godine poslije i u "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod".

Zasjao je "Gorki mjesec" ("Bitter Moon", 1992.) u godini kad je psihoseksualni, erotski triler sa "Sirovim strastima" dosezao vrhunac, stoga film na određeni način predstavlja ogled Romana Polanskog sa žanrom i njegov pogled na isti. Trileri su od početaka karijere bili forte poljskog redatelja, mahom psihološke ("Nož u vodi", "Stanar"), noirovske ("Kineska četvrt"), hororske ("Odvratnost", "Rosemaryna beba") ili hičkokovske vrste ("Ludilo"), uz dodatak ironičnog, crnog humora.

Svaki od tih filmova je u većoj ili manjoj mjeri sadržavao nešto perverzno, voajersko i dvosmisleno, manevrirajući između psihološkog i seksualnog. Psihoseksualni, erotski triler bio je, tako, pitanje vremena za Polanskog koji je ekranizirao roman "Lunes de Fiel" Pascala Brucknera.

Voajerski, erotski opsesivni "Gorki mjesec", ekranizacija romana "Lunes de Fiel" Pascala Brucknera, izgleda kao film kojeg je mogao snimiti i Brian De Palma da 1992. nije režirao "Cainovo prokletstvo", ali je svejedno stopostotni Polanski, vjerojatno i jedan od njegovih najintimnijih uradaka.

Kao i u redateljevu prvijencu "Knife In The Water", radnja se najvećim dijelom odvija na brodu, ne računajući prošlosne flešbekove ambijentirane u Pariz. Jedrilicu s tri lika, jednom djevojkom i dvojicom muškaraca, zamijenio je putnički brod koji plovi prema Istanbulu, a glavnu riječ vode dva bračna para.

Uštogljeni britanski par Nigel i Fiona (Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott-Thomas) odlučio se na putovanje ne bi li osvježio sedmogodišnji brak. Na istom brodu se nalaze i ogorčeni, neostvareni američki pisac u kolicima Oscar i njegova puno mlađa francuska "femme fatale" supruga, plesačica Mimi (Peter Cyote, Emmanuelle Seigner).

Fiona jednog jutra pronalazi Mimi u nesvijesti u toaletu, ali već tu istu večer vamp Francuskinja zapleše na podiju na taktove pjesme "Fever" Peggy Lee, izgledajući kao da nije ona od jutros i hipnotizira Nigela seksi kakva jest. "Je li to neka vrsta igre?", pita je Nigel kojeg Oscar upozori da je njegova zgodna žena "hodajuća zamka za muškarca".

"Ja sam joj muž, pogledaj što mi je napravila", kaže Oscar i nagovori Nigela da posluša njegovu priču o njihovu braku koju će on rado ispričati potpunom strancu. Isprve Nigel odbija slušati, ali postupno postaje fasciniran onim što čuje i potpuno očaran atraktivnom Mimi, koju je teško izbiti iz glave jednom kad je vidite, zapetljavajući se u paukovu mrežu bračnog para, moguće njihovu nastranu igricu.

Oscar kreće od početka njihove romanse, kad je sreo Mimi u pariškom autobusu i spasio je od kontrolora davši joj svoju kartu. U tom trenutku Oscaru se "pružila prilika da vidi tračak raja", što je interesantna rečenica ako se u obzir uzme "đavlija" Seigner u paklenim "Devetim vratima".

Od slatke erotske romanse, preko sadomazohističkog seksa, do gorke opsesivnosti kratak je put, prevaljen u grafičkim flešbekovima od kojih je mogao nastati i samostalni film, jer Oscar i Mimi, s "kreditom na izmaku", ubrzo kreću prema "seksualnom bankrotu", odnosno "svaka veza sadrži sjeme farse i tragedije koliko god harmonična bila".

"Bitter Moon" bi u tom slučaju bio relativno standardni erotski triler na temu opsesije, (s)eksplatacije i braka osuđenog na propast, premda i kao takav gradio most između "Posljednjeg tanga u Parizu" i "Kobne privlačnosti", tj. erotskih trilera iz bračnog života ("Oči širom zatvorene", "Nestala", "Duboka voda"), a iznad standarda ga uzdižu neke "kinky" scene s bičevima i svinjećim maskama.

Mimi izaziva Oscara tako što otpije gutljaj mlijeka i sugestivno pusti da bijela tekućina iscuri po njezinim grudima dok svira "Faith" Georgea Michaela, a u odsudnom momentu tostevi iskoče iz tostera da najprije hororski šokiraju, potom i malo nasmiju publiku. Uzavrelu erotsku maštu "Gorki mjesec" dijeli s "Devet i pol tjedana", kao i pjesmu "Slave To Love" Bryana Ferryja koju ovdje pred kraj filma svira bend na brodskom dočeku Nove godine.

Finale djeluje pomalo jeftino i naprasno, no sve što mu prethodi žanrovski je još uvijek intrigantno i prilično beskompromisno. Kome je mučno ovo putovanje, neka pomije dramina tabletu, kao da poručuje Polanski koji ne odlazi toliko daleko u smjeru "Helenine kutije", ali koristi priliku da višestruko izokrene žanr na perverzno zadovoljstvo samoga sebe, ako ne i gledatelja koji sluša priču poput Nigela, budeći sadista u sebi privučen bračnim nastranostima, tuđom patnjom i Miminom ljepotom.

"Svatko ima sadističku crtu i ništa to ne pokazuje bolje od spoznaje da imaš nekoga u svojoj milosti", pripovijeda Oscar i veli Nigelu "Bio bi dobar analitičar, nema mnogo muškaraca koji bi slušali toliko toga toliko dugo", obraćajući se u ime Polanskog i gledatelju.

Polanski, kao prvo, režira "Bitter Moon" tako da se erotski triler može i samo odigravati u glavi pripovjedača i slušača (Oscar, Nigel). "Ne vjeruj svemu što kaže, bolestan je čovjek, umišlja stvari", Nigelu govori Mimi koju ovaj gleda drukčijim očima od priče do priče.

Drugo, fatalna žena, suprotno pravilima žanra, biva poružnjena i svedena na beznadežnu romantičarku na čas-dva, toliko zaljubljenu u Oscara da je spremna podvrći se njegovoj psihološkoj torturi, prije nego što se stvari preokrenu i ona povrati "femme fatale" status.

Treće, krajnje osobno i metafilmski, na primjeru blago rečeno smionog, ekshibionističkog castinga, Mimi glumi stvarna supruga Polanskog, od njega dvostruko mlađa Seigner, koju je on također upoznao u Parizu, na snimanju trilera "Frantic", nakon čega je često angažira u svojim filmovima ("Venera u krznu", "Prema istinitoj priči").

Je li njihov brak bio preslik Oscarovog i Miminog ili ne, "Gorki mjesec" djeluje kao da je netko podijelio detalje vlastitog seksualnog života s nama gledateljima, potpunim strancima, što se baš i ne može reći za ostale erotske trilere.

Vangelisova glazba

Glazbu za film skladao je Vangelis ("Istrebljivač", "Bounty"). U jednoj sceni Oscar na TV-u gleda "Bilo jednom u Americi" s Robertom De Nirom i Jamesom Woodsom, što je posebno zanimljivo budući da je upravo za tu ulogu bio razmatran potonji glumac. Hugh Grant i Kristin Scott Thomas glumili su dvije godine poslije i u "Četiri vjenčanja i sprovod".
