HBO GO je ugostio hrvatsku premijeru Disneyjeve fantazije "Artemis Fowl", ekranizacije popularnog romana Eoina Colfera. Premijera se dogodila pred "redovno" prikazivanje na HBO-u (od) 23. kolovoza, točno dva mjeseca nakon što je "Artemis Fowl" debitirao na streaming servisu Disney+ sredinom lipnja.
Je li ovo potvrda nagađanja da bi HBO (GO) mogao biti hrvatski zastupnik Disney+ servisa ili ne, "Artemis Fowl" je još jedan primjer blockbustera koji se zbog pretežno zatvorenih kina u Americi i svijetu preselio na neku streaming platformu ("Greyhound") ili VOD, a na hrvatsko tržište (uz HBO tu je i "A1 Videoteka") dolazi istovremeno s lošom viješću da će sličan put proći i megaspektakl "Mulan".

Olakotna okolnost jest da "Artemis Fowl" nije bogznakakav uradak. U kinima bi sigurno bio veći doživljaj, kao i ama baš svaki film, ne nužno spektakl, ali i vjerojatno ostao u sjeni zvučnijih blockbustera ("Black Widow", "Top Gun 2", "Wonder Woman 2"...) da je ljetna kinosezona bila normalna, kao prije zlosretne korone.
Ipak, u "novom (ne)normalnom", na streamings servisima, kod kuće, funkcionira kao atrakcija u nedostatku visokobudžetnih spektakala studijske "A" produkcije budući da tu prednjače kvazi-blockbusteri poput "The Old Guard". Utoliko se Disney našao u sličnoj situaciji kao Paramount s "The Lovebirds", koja mu relativno ide na ruku, samo što slabiji film nije uvalio Netflixu već samome sebi (Disney+).
Moglo se naslutiti da "Artemis Fowl" nije neko propupalo cvijeće kad je Disney prolongirao njegovu kinodistribiciju s prošlog ljeta na ovo, a prebacivanje na streaming servis samo je potvrda uvenulosti projekta koji sada ima "low(er) profile" status i izazvat će manje pozornosti svojom osrednjosti nego što bi izaz(i)vao u kinodistribiciji, gdje filmovi uživaju veći publicitet.
Disney je s "Artemisom Fowlom" nedvojbeno htio dobiti još jednu franšizu, novog "Harryja Pottera" koji bi revitalizirao žanr fantazije. "Harryja Pottera" je možda dobio, ali "Pottera" za početnike, da ne kažemo siromašne. "Artemis Fowl" je bliži "B" verziji "Pottera", tj. kvazi-"potterovskom" serijalu "Čudesne zvijeri i gdje ih naći", s još manje izrazitog vlastitog identiteta.
Divovski patuljak Mulch Diggums (Josh Gad), inače narator priče, izgleda kao mladi Hagrid, uz tu razliku što Hagrid nije kopao tunele kao krtica svojim velikim ustima i izbacivao iskopanu zemlju kroz stražnjicu (!). Film nas odvodi tamo gdje neograničene mogućnosti magije i čuda još uvijek postoje – u irski dom Artemisa Fowla (Ferdia Shaw).
Doduše, junak nije isprve "potterovski" lik: mali genijalac je tituliran kao kvazi-antagonist, "criminal mastermind", sin svog oca, "globetrotterovskog" sakupljača i dilera antikviteta te zločinačkog veleuma Artemisa Fowla starijeg (Colin Farrell). Međutim, kad doznamo da Fowlovi generacijski kradu određene artefakte koji se, klasika, trebaju zaštititi i ne smiju pasti u krive ruke, kako bi tako sačuvali balans između ljudskog/vilinskog svijeta, Artemis se promeće u "potterovskog" protagonista.
Malac će se boriti za spas dva svijeta zajedno s vilom Holly Short (Lara McDonnell), nakon što njegov otac nestane u tajnoj misiji, u stvari bude otet i balans mira visi o niti. I u svijetu Artemisa Fowla postoje, znači, raznorazna mitska stvorenja, tj. čudesne zvijeri, trolovi, kentauri....
Ali, nedostaje čudesnosti, magije i vlastitog "ja" da bi se ovaj film razlikovao od hit-fantazija na velikim ekranima kao što su "Harry Potter", "Fantastic Beasts" ili "His Dark Materials" na malima, gdje je Disneyjev spektaklić degradiran. Nedostatak vlastite mašte "Artemis Fowl" crpi (osim navedenih) iz "Spy Kidsa", "Stormbreakera", "Men in Black", "Aquamana"...
"Hi-tech" oružje i Artemisov imidž (sunčane naočale, odijelo s kravatom) kao da su uzeti iz "Ljudi u crnom", a Haven City, dom vila, doima se poput podvodna svijeta "Aquamana". Lijepo to izgleda, naravno, ali istovremeno je već viđeno i ne oduzima dah (možda bi drukčije bilo u kinu).
Čak i najatraktivnije blockbustersko-akcijske scene imaju "deja vu" osjećaj, naročito završna borba s "full-sized" trolom u Artemisovu zdanju. Odnosno, možda nije toliki "deja vu" na snazi koliko je to jednostavno bilo spektakularnije izvedeno u "Harryju Potteru" i "Gospodaru prstenova" ili barem manje vizualno nabrijano i kaotično.
Redatelj Kenneth Branagh pristupa računalnim efektima orgijastički, kao da nije namirio glad za blockbusterom u superiornijem "Thoru" i "Pepeljuzi", čije je svjetove dojmljivije izgradio iz temelja. Iz tih pobuda bilo nam je drago što je Branagh nakratko usporio ADHD dinamiku u budžetiranoj sceni temporalnog vakuuma s "time freeze" kapsulom, ali voljeli bismo da je pokazao više zanosa u dočaravanju ekstremnog "slow motiona".
Nije ova scena trebala biti nužno za anale kao Quicksilverov trk u zamrznutom vremenu iz blockbustera "X-Men: Dani buduće prošlosti", ali nismo mislili da će "Artemis Fowl" u tom pogledu biti inferiorniji filmu "Sonic: Super Jež" (izbjegavanja raketa iz dronova).
Čini nam se kao da se Branaghova ruka malo umorila od blockbustera ili da je režirao film razmišljajući više o svom idućem projektu za odrasle, "Smrti na Nilu", nastavku "Ubojstva u Orient-Expressu". Manjak inspiracije Branagh je preselio na glumačke veterane, poput uvijek pouzdanog Farrella i oskarovke Judi Dench, koja odrađuje ulogu "davidbowiejevske" zapovjednice vilinske policije zvane LEPRecon (zgodno).
Iako je Branagh prošvercao poneki psihodelični kadar s vilama, a kamera u jednom trenutku ušla među slova dnevnika, "Artemis Fowl" je lišen zaigranosti kakvu bi demonstrirao npr. Robert Rodriguez, puno bolji izbor nakon što se dokazao na viskobudžetnom blockbusteru "Alita: Anđeo borbe" s obzirom na to da je, režirajući "Spy Kidse", sigurno maštao o ovakvom proračunu.
Opet, možda bi film bio uspjeliji da je Branagh radio na scenariju i eventualno ga usmjerio prema trećem "Indiani Jonesu", što je "Artemis Fowl" u okviru fantazije mogao postati (sin spašava oca slijedeći njegov dnevnik). Scenarij mehanički odrađuje obvezatna "world building" davanja, minimalnu ekspoziciju i karakterizaciju unutar 90-ak minuta.
Priča je brzopotezna, likovi nepamtljivi, drama među njima nepostojeća, bez emocija, a svijet s tematikom koegzistencije (ljudi, vile) i rasnom hijerarhijom (vile iznad goblina) tek načet. Prekratak i pretanak da bude fantazijski ep, "Artemis Fowl" djeluje kao da Branagh želi što prije završiti film i krenuti dalje na set "Death On The Nile". Avantura Artemisa Fowla završila je prije nego što je zapravo počela.

"Je li ti itko rekao da si kao David Bowie, da je David Bowie bio vila?" – "Artemis Fowl" (2020.)
HBO GO je ugostio hrvatsku premijeru Disneyjeve fantazije "Artemis Fowl", ekranizacije popularnog romana Eoina Colfera. Premijera se dogodila pred "redovno" prikazivanje na HBO-u (od) 23. kolovoza, točno dva mjeseca nakon što je "Artemis Fowl" debitirao na streaming servisu Disney+ sredinom lipnja.
Je li ovo potvrda nagađanja da bi HBO (GO) mogao biti hrvatski zastupnik Disney+ servisa ili ne, "Artemis Fowl" je još jedan primjer blockbustera koji se zbog pretežno zatvorenih kina u Americi i svijetu preselio na neku streaming platformu ("Greyhound") ili VOD, a na hrvatsko tržište (uz HBO tu je i "A1 Videoteka") dolazi istovremeno s lošom viješću da će sličan put proći i megaspektakl "Mulan".

Olakotna okolnost jest da "Artemis Fowl" nije bogznakakav uradak. U kinima bi sigurno bio veći doživljaj, kao i ama baš svaki film, ne nužno spektakl, ali i vjerojatno ostao u sjeni zvučnijih blockbustera ("Black Widow", "Top Gun 2", "Wonder Woman 2"...) da je ljetna kinosezona bila normalna, kao prije zlosretne korone.
Ipak, u "novom (ne)normalnom", na streamings servisima, kod kuće, funkcionira kao atrakcija u nedostatku visokobudžetnih spektakala studijske "A" produkcije budući da tu prednjače kvazi-blockbusteri poput "The Old Guard". Utoliko se Disney našao u sličnoj situaciji kao Paramount s "The Lovebirds", koja mu relativno ide na ruku, samo što slabiji film nije uvalio Netflixu već samome sebi (Disney+).
Moglo se naslutiti da "Artemis Fowl" nije neko propupalo cvijeće kad je Disney prolongirao njegovu kinodistribiciju s prošlog ljeta na ovo, a prebacivanje na streaming servis samo je potvrda uvenulosti projekta koji sada ima "low(er) profile" status i izazvat će manje pozornosti svojom osrednjosti nego što bi izaz(i)vao u kinodistribiciji, gdje filmovi uživaju veći publicitet.
Disney je s "Artemisom Fowlom" nedvojbeno htio dobiti još jednu franšizu, novog "Harryja Pottera" koji bi revitalizirao žanr fantazije. "Harryja Pottera" je možda dobio, ali "Pottera" za početnike, da ne kažemo siromašne. "Artemis Fowl" je bliži "B" verziji "Pottera", tj. kvazi-"potterovskom" serijalu "Čudesne zvijeri i gdje ih naći", s još manje izrazitog vlastitog identiteta.
Divovski patuljak Mulch Diggums (Josh Gad), inače narator priče, izgleda kao mladi Hagrid, uz tu razliku što Hagrid nije kopao tunele kao krtica svojim velikim ustima i izbacivao iskopanu zemlju kroz stražnjicu (!). Film nas odvodi tamo gdje neograničene mogućnosti magije i čuda još uvijek postoje – u irski dom Artemisa Fowla (Ferdia Shaw).
Doduše, junak nije isprve "potterovski" lik: mali genijalac je tituliran kao kvazi-antagonist, "criminal mastermind", sin svog oca, "globetrotterovskog" sakupljača i dilera antikviteta te zločinačkog veleuma Artemisa Fowla starijeg (Colin Farrell). Međutim, kad doznamo da Fowlovi generacijski kradu određene artefakte koji se, klasika, trebaju zaštititi i ne smiju pasti u krive ruke, kako bi tako sačuvali balans između ljudskog/vilinskog svijeta, Artemis se promeće u "potterovskog" protagonista.
Malac će se boriti za spas dva svijeta zajedno s vilom Holly Short (Lara McDonnell), nakon što njegov otac nestane u tajnoj misiji, u stvari bude otet i balans mira visi o niti. I u svijetu Artemisa Fowla postoje, znači, raznorazna mitska stvorenja, tj. čudesne zvijeri, trolovi, kentauri....
Ali, nedostaje čudesnosti, magije i vlastitog "ja" da bi se ovaj film razlikovao od hit-fantazija na velikim ekranima kao što su "Harry Potter", "Fantastic Beasts" ili "His Dark Materials" na malima, gdje je Disneyjev spektaklić degradiran. Nedostatak vlastite mašte "Artemis Fowl" crpi (osim navedenih) iz "Spy Kidsa", "Stormbreakera", "Men in Black", "Aquamana"...
"Hi-tech" oružje i Artemisov imidž (sunčane naočale, odijelo s kravatom) kao da su uzeti iz "Ljudi u crnom", a Haven City, dom vila, doima se poput podvodna svijeta "Aquamana". Lijepo to izgleda, naravno, ali istovremeno je već viđeno i ne oduzima dah (možda bi drukčije bilo u kinu).
Čak i najatraktivnije blockbustersko-akcijske scene imaju "deja vu" osjećaj, naročito završna borba s "full-sized" trolom u Artemisovu zdanju. Odnosno, možda nije toliki "deja vu" na snazi koliko je to jednostavno bilo spektakularnije izvedeno u "Harryju Potteru" i "Gospodaru prstenova" ili barem manje vizualno nabrijano i kaotično.
Redatelj Kenneth Branagh pristupa računalnim efektima orgijastički, kao da nije namirio glad za blockbusterom u superiornijem "Thoru" i "Pepeljuzi", čije je svjetove dojmljivije izgradio iz temelja. Iz tih pobuda bilo nam je drago što je Branagh nakratko usporio ADHD dinamiku u budžetiranoj sceni temporalnog vakuuma s "time freeze" kapsulom, ali voljeli bismo da je pokazao više zanosa u dočaravanju ekstremnog "slow motiona".
Nije ova scena trebala biti nužno za anale kao Quicksilverov trk u zamrznutom vremenu iz blockbustera "X-Men: Dani buduće prošlosti", ali nismo mislili da će "Artemis Fowl" u tom pogledu biti inferiorniji filmu "Sonic: Super Jež" (izbjegavanja raketa iz dronova).
Čini nam se kao da se Branaghova ruka malo umorila od blockbustera ili da je režirao film razmišljajući više o svom idućem projektu za odrasle, "Smrti na Nilu", nastavku "Ubojstva u Orient-Expressu". Manjak inspiracije Branagh je preselio na glumačke veterane, poput uvijek pouzdanog Farrella i oskarovke Judi Dench, koja odrađuje ulogu "davidbowiejevske" zapovjednice vilinske policije zvane LEPRecon (zgodno).
Iako je Branagh prošvercao poneki psihodelični kadar s vilama, a kamera u jednom trenutku ušla među slova dnevnika, "Artemis Fowl" je lišen zaigranosti kakvu bi demonstrirao npr. Robert Rodriguez, puno bolji izbor nakon što se dokazao na viskobudžetnom blockbusteru "Alita: Anđeo borbe" s obzirom na to da je, režirajući "Spy Kidse", sigurno maštao o ovakvom proračunu.
Opet, možda bi film bio uspjeliji da je Branagh radio na scenariju i eventualno ga usmjerio prema trećem "Indiani Jonesu", što je "Artemis Fowl" u okviru fantazije mogao postati (sin spašava oca slijedeći njegov dnevnik). Scenarij mehanički odrađuje obvezatna "world building" davanja, minimalnu ekspoziciju i karakterizaciju unutar 90-ak minuta.
Priča je brzopotezna, likovi nepamtljivi, drama među njima nepostojeća, bez emocija, a svijet s tematikom koegzistencije (ljudi, vile) i rasnom hijerarhijom (vile iznad goblina) tek načet. Prekratak i pretanak da bude fantazijski ep, "Artemis Fowl" djeluje kao da Branagh želi što prije završiti film i krenuti dalje na set "Death On The Nile". Avantura Artemisa Fowla završila je prije nego što je zapravo počela.
